I've got loads of memories. I remember filtering out the pontoon after a 0-0 draw against Carlisle (?) and seeing that FA Cup semi at hillsborough had been abandoned due to "overcrowding" on the scoreboard, completely oblivious to the events that were to unfold.
Super Clive scoring a right foot curler into the top corner in the last minute as I was stood right behind him in the open corner waiting to get out, can't rem who it was against though.
John cockerill scoring a 30 yard screamer against York I think in the cup
The opening day of the div 3 (L1) promotion season at Preston when we played them off their plastic pitch and won 3-1, with Neil woods making his debut.
Wimbledon away in the cup when we invaded plough lane with Harry haddocks!
My first ever town game at home to aldershot, we drew 1-1 and the late Marc north missed a pen that would have kept us up.
Must be more but they're the ones that stick in my mind.
Utm.
It's not often we win our opening game of the season.
Here's a reminder for you.

Beating Sheffield United 2-1 in the last minute of extra time (Mark Bright) in the FA cup semi final at Wembley sat with 80.000 Sheffielders. Never will that atmosphere or day be beaten again for me.

Cheers les. I really was spoilt in my early days as a town fan lol. Aside from the aforementioned aldershot game under bob Roberts, I was brought up on Buckley I. Them were the days...
Bruce Grobilar turning boo's, jeers, and taunts of "how much for a goal" etc into Cheers, laughter, and a standing ovation from the Ponny. Absolutely awesome.
The wife was going away for a girly weekend. I jokingly remarked 'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football' 'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked
She said 'Well you already know how to play football'
1] Going to a mid-winter 'friendly' against Hibernian in the early 60s and seeing Graham Taylor charge down a full-blooded clearance at point blank range without flinching. A big, angry bruise appeared on his thigh almost immediately but he carried on as if nothing had happened. I realised at that point that I had to add something to my game! 2] Going to Preston on a wet and miserable Tuesday night in December 1980 when Town were 2 points above the relegation places. We won 4-2 and went on a run which took us to 3rd place in March. 3] Seeing us run out of steam against West Ham on a dead pitch at BP the following April. We lost 5-1 and I realised then that this was the best it was ever going to get for Grimsby Town. 4] Going to Griffin Park for a run of the mill fixture against Brentford in the 92/3 season. There was a betting shop on the ground [Ladbrokes, I think] which was offering 8/1 against Mendonca scoring the first goal. He got 2 and paid for the whole trip for me and my boy!
Tony Rees giving me a proper evil look when I shouted at him "to run you fat b'stard" when he lazily gave up on a loose ball which he could have easily kept in. When I was a youth I used to sit on the bars at the front of the Ponny and we sort of stared each other out for a good 30 seconds, I'm sure if I was an adult he would have stuck one on me.
A referee being hit by a till-roll thrown from the Ponny when we were playing Crewe during a midweek game in the late 80's, people say that Jurgen Klinnsman invented the dive but that referee was years ahead of him with his comedy lunge.
That away win against Stockport in the paint trophy when we were moved to the covered seating area (Aside from a few have a go heroes ) due to the heavy rain. Likewise the area final after that against Morecambe when some fella was barracking Phil Barnes after 2 minutes of the game only to be shouted down from a few Town fans and for Barnes to produce one of the best goalkeeping displays I can remember. Both games summed up a great midweek cup game with fantastic atmospheres.
"Lovelly stuff! not my words but the words of Shakin Stevens."

I remember that game. And the Cup game round about the same time when Clive scored in both games. What a player. Will we see his like again?
