With the new season almost upon us lets just wallow in a bit of nostalgia.

Everyone who was there at the time will always remember Wilkie's goal at Everton, Burnett's at Wembley, Jevvo's at Liverpool etc, but what your ONE clearest random memory at a Town game.

Mine is Shaun Cunnington climbing up on the fence in front of the 1000 Town fans after he had scored the winner at Reading in the 4th Round FA Cup replay at Elm Park in 88/89.

1982 ish vs Barnsley. 2-0 down at half time, Nigel Batch getting no end of stick and pelted with coins from 1500 of their fans. Three second half goals to win the game and Batch ran the length of the pitch to the osmond to "enquire" about the score

Paul Groves' goal at Chesterfield in 'that season'.  I remember Donovan running practially the length of the pitch with the ball and crossing it for Grovesey to volley it in from the edge of the box.  The best Town goal I've ever seen.

Or Paul Futcher's goal. I was there!

Serial thread killer.

I have a couple, one isn't even by a town player...muzzy izzets goal from outside the box, i just remember standing up and clapping and thinking 'what a flipping goal'.
I remember Mendonca scoring past us when charlton got relegated and all the town fans cheered when he scored lol.

Donovans goal at BP to get us to the play offs, thinking about it now makes me feel weird, it was strange, we were the best side that season and although we had already been to wembley, actually scoring a goal at BP to get us to wembley was mega.

The first mass exodus of Town fans - to Coventry in the 72-3 FA Cup. 20,000 plus fans descended on Highfield Road to give Coventry their biggest home attendance for nearly 5 years! I remember the huge queues of traffic en route, and I think it was at Newark in those days, that the coaches were nose to tail and not miving that dozens of folk jumped off the coaches into a nearby pub, grabbed a pint and walked about another 10 yards to pick the bus up again.
The heartbreak of being put out of the Cup by a Micky Coop penalty, 5 minutes from time, was all the more saddening because Mick was a Grimsby lad.
Liverpool in the79-80 season as well when we took 20,000 plus to Anfield - whole of the Anfield Road end, half the Kemlyn Road stand, and also a big overflow in the Kop, which only lasted a short while as the Scousers weren't keen on being "invaded". Evening Telegraph had the headline on day of the game "Will the last person out of Grimsby please turn off the lights?"

No attempt at ethical or social seduction can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred of the Tory party. So far as I'm concerned they're lower than vermin. Aneurin Bevan.
