Now then all you SJW's who are quite happy to accept "Tory Vermin" as the title of a post but quite unable to get anything into perspective.
Growing up in the 1950's off Victor Street in grinding, relentless poverty, today's struggles are a tea party in comparison.
No bathroom, no kitchen, cold water only, outside loo, 2 up 2 down one coal fire. Clearing ice from the inside of the windows. The sort of thing that you lot only read about in books. Next door had cockroaches for a carpet and going to the corner shop down the passageway you had to take a broom handle to fend off the rats. We had to clear the spiders out of the outside loo before we could sit on a bloody bench with a hole in it.
I can assure you that today seeing somebody moaning about the quality of a "food parcel" in a home that was good even by today's standards sticks in the craw somewhat.
It doesn't matter how poor we were, parents fed their children. If you can't feed your children, don't have them.
Embarrassing but not surprising by somebody who backed Dominic Mckenzie Cummings last year.

Great rant, Golly. Very eloquent as well. Needless to say, I agree with every word.
The lack of humanity on display on this forum at times is very depressing.

It’s concerning as well that using the phrases ‘Willy liberal’, ‘looney lefty’ or ‘social justice warrior’ are regarded as derogatory, what an odd outlook, by many, not just folk on here.
It’s about opinions and so it should be, but I agree, the lack of humility is alarming. An idea that Because we had it bad way back when then families now don’t know they’re born. Your circumstance is judged on what you have not what you had, very peculiar.
Also a little confusing when you think about it, many folk who are seemingly against using a few quid to feed folk, often sit on the side of politics which is considerably more conservative, Brexit voters and bemoan immigration like it’s the scourge of everything. The very people who pedalled this idea that the UK was better before the EU and that all things were rosey...then in the next breath talk about an apparent mass poverty, where people didn’t have a pot to urine in and they drew laces on their feet to pretend they had shoes...I mean that sounds amazing. Quick let’s hark back and go back to those times? Confusing.
You can truly judge a nation on how well it supports and guides its vulnerable, poorest and elderly...currently, given we’re talking about free school meals/education, the government is Inadequate and should be placed in special measures.
Arguing that children shouldn’t be given food, that a minute amount in the grand schemes of things, especially in a country that spent well over a billion quid on disastrous system designed to keep folk safe seems crass and grotesque.

Good God, this thread reads like a Guardian bingo card.
All the usual derogatory and hyperbolic phrases are here in abundance because someone takes the extreme view that the first rule of parenting is to feed your own children when they are not at school.
This simple act of feeding your own children did indeed happen in the past, whilst parents were suffering extreme hardships whilst recovering from the horrors of World war 2. Today it seems rather more important that my free food parcel isn't as enticing as I expected.

Sorry, but you're wrong. Do some research. Remember the plural of anecdote isn't data.

By and large I think Lew has a point .Admittedly in some cases its not always the woman's fault eg man runs off leaving the women struggling. The brilliant film "Angela's Ashes" reflects that in 1940s Ireland. Some take the mick out of the system .Hence some people claim they cant work because they have panic attacks etc . Iam sorry but this dont cut it .In many country's around the world the authorities wouldn't accept it and these people would have no alterative but to work and look after the children they have brought into this world. Likewise having spoken to people in the services eg army/police they also testify to this. Some take the mick out of this county's good will and put nothing back in the kitty by way of tax .Think of drug addicts and the like . Certainly some things should get tougher and certain people albeit the minority should get of their bums and not let the nanny state take over.

But we live in a country where the right-wing print media and their billionaire owners have indoctrinated a significant amount of people in this country that anybody claiming any sort of benefit is a parasite.

No. Not very forgiving either from someone who purports to be religious.

Thing is Golly Iam not influenced by right wing media more by nature documentary's. First rule of thumb is you make the effort to look after your offspring. Some and again its the minority see this as an escape clause to get of lifting their bums in the morning and working. Its like anything in life a few will always choose the easy/lazy path. This is where government needs to get tougher.
No.
Not very forgiving either from someone who purports to be religious.
Its natural law though Ginny .Thats where the real answers lie. Sometimes in life you need to be hard or some will walk all over you.

Big flipping deal - the percentage of people fraudulently claiming benefits is hilariously small, like under 1% of the overall welfare budget, and the overall amount of money 'lost' in this way is a pittance compared to the money the government spaffs away on dodgy contracts offered out to Conservative party donors - https://bylinetimes.com/2020/12/31/2020-spotlight-the-great-procurement-scandal/We're a rich country, we can afford to deal with a tiny number of cases of benefit fraud to ensure all kids in the country are properly fed. Stop focusing on the tiny number of fraudulent edge cases and building your argument around it instead of looking at the wider government spending picture which involves much larger sums of 'taxpayers money' being covertly shuffled off to tory party cronies with barely a peep from people like you or the press.
