Even at its most base level, the tax payer is paying for £30 of food and we’re getting £5 worth while some suit pockets the rest. And STILL the usual boot lickers queue up to defend it.

Just weak beyond belief. What a pathetic, snivelling, cap-doffing mentality. And it’s these kids who suffer as a result.

It's disgusting. Dodgy procurement practice. Never mind whether or not you agree that kids should get free school meals*, it's just an appalling commercial deal.

The Tories are supposed to be the ones who look after the tax payers money. This present lot simply do not care. They are shafting the taxpayer. They are blatant about it. I hated the woman, but Maggie Thatcher would never have allowed this.

* Finland, for example, gives ALL kids a free meal every day. And a proper meal too, not a sarnie, a bag of crisps and a tangerine. GDP per capita comparable to our own, but more evenly distributed. Yet somehow they manage not to be an economic basket case.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

It is not a case of defending anything and calling people names just makes you look immature.

The ex-footballer Sir Marcus Rashford dived in straightaway over this pic on Twitter without having the grace to consider the full facts so of course it must be right. The most salient fact is that if people do not like the free box of food schools can issue a voucher instead. I just get the feeling that if some folks were given fish and chips for dinner they would complain on Twitter the salt and vinegar were off.

It is a mess, it is lousy procurement by somebody but it is easily fixed and hardly a national disaster. It is a distraction. The government rightly has more important matters to try and fix than a few boxes of food that the usual suspects are desperate to make political capital from.

If that's the case, why are all and sundry profusely apologising and changing to a voucher system from next week?

Even Gavin Williamson said he was "absolutely disgusted" by what had been served up.

It was another outsourcing catastrophe by this government, that was rightly flagged up for what it was, namely some fecker making cash from the public purse yet again, while the people it was supposed to serve were left short changed.

This country, and especially this government, disgusts me more with each passing day.

Even the Tory government have given up trying to defend this, hungry children is an important matter to many , the fact that we even have to have free meals to stop kids going hungry is abhorrent, it is a recognition that many do not get enough basic income to feed their families

You really are painfully dim.

This food is emblematic of exactly what is wrong with this country - absolutely EVERYTHING is up for grabs for those who want to make a profit, and it doesn’t matter from where that profit derives.

If it weren’t for people like Rashford, and those parents who have shown what they get in the boxes, children would STILL be receiving quartered onions or grated cheese in coin bags. The mealy mouthed apologies have already been issued and MPs are feigning indignation, but they all know the score - cut costs, maximise profit & benefit the shareholders. They got caught. Simple as that.

The pandemic has been an exercise in disaster capitalism, as OUR money has been siphoned off into private hands via test & trace, PPE, messaging, I even heard a firm involved in logistics for music festivals were given a contract for transporting bodies to mortuaries despite no previous experience in it. It’s a disgrace and I’m ashamed that I walk the same streets as anyone willing to defend it.

The state has been hollowed out for 40 years - energy, transport, local govt, healthcare and they’ve even now privatised child poverty. It’s disgusting. All this garbage about how the market leads to improvements in services is demonstrably untrue - ask anyone who travels by rail regularly.

It’s not a one-off or a few bad apples, it’s absolutely standard and social media has been awash with similar images for the past two days. You asked why it’s party political - well the country had the option of someone diametrically opposed to this kind of greed recently, but some people chose to stick with the status quo. It’s their responsibility.

We’ve all been told to pitch in, do our bit, come together etc etc, but where’s that spirit being replicated by the bent govt and their profiteering mates? They’re treating us all like mugs and YOU’RE letting them do it. The fukkers can’t even feed a small number of children without scamming us, these people are sick, absolutely sick.

The effects of child poverty are well known - children in poverty are more likely to suffer from mental health problems, chronic health problems and malnutrition later in life, and we’re all going to be picking up the tab later on. So why not just let these kids have some apples ffs?

As for Rashford’s MBE - he was given that by Boris to try and shut him up after he embarrassed the govt and shamed them into a u-turn before Xmas. Hasn’t worked though, and good on him.

The apolitical Marcus Rashford campaign trying to make political capital from an issue caused by companies getting a contract from a ruling political party allowing companies to make considerably financial capital.

Thank goodness we’ve got such a competent govt to sort the other issues.

Do calm down and lighten up. Don't you realise you could give yourself a heart attack getting wound up like that and there are not many beds available in HDUs at the moment.

In a few days time no doubt it will be revealed that some of the photos were staged, and the most vocal are Labour party activists trying to provide maximum discomfort to the government.

No doubt some of the food parcels are not ideal; why not just issue food vouchers to families who really need help and allow parents some choice?
