Sorry what I  meant by that is would the consortium want to go ahead with the takeover if they can't have full control and need JF or PD still on board.. Can't see it being a part takeover myself

Just can't fathom why they would want to retain an interest. Surely they wouldn't still be attending games?
I can only put it down to the ego of JF, so WHEN the good times return he can try and take some credit for it.
Answers please Noche.

Nobody with any knowledge has actually said that they do want to though. Shutes pulled out and lots of excrement was thrown at the wall and this is the bit that stuck. There's a few that have been making excrement up for weeks trying to claim some inside knowledge.

Fenty is the classic big fish in a small pond and still having a say in how the club is run is him showing that he's a 'player' in the town.

He's also a classic 'populist' who'll say or do pretty much anything to keep his power and appears to be impervious to criticism because he's convinced he's right.

Elsewhere people have suggested he won't show his face after the takeover. I think utterly differently, it wouldn't surprise me if he's negotiating a seat for life in the director's box and will just ignore the abuse he'll get for a few games.

Surely it's better to have new influence and investment involved in some capacity than none at all?

I think we've become too easily seduced by the idea that our downfall has a singular cause that can be easily resolved.  Dare I say that we've failed to invest in crucial areas since the 80s, when the prevailing attitude was that safety at football grounds was increasingly a priority and that clubs should commit to moving away from their Victorian stadiums with unsafe wooden stands, etc?  We perhaps benefited from this neglect as we prospered on the pitch in the 90s while others invested in their infrastructure, but as we became heavily reliant on external income we were increasingly financially exposed.  I'm sure some will argue with this perspective but it's worth considering now, isn't it?

So the rot started before Fenty, at least in my opinion.  Despite his unpalatable leadership and general lack of footballing intelligence, he didn't create our underlying problem, he just never attempted to fix it.

I'll back the team next year as long as something has changed.  If Fenty retains a role in some capacity until he's fully paid back, I genuinely don't see that as a problem as long as efforts to rebuild pride in the club are unhindered.  Hopefully some people feel the same, although sadly most people appear to be adopting a scorched earth policy.  Understandable, but is it really necessary?

He will fall out with them and they'll disappear. He falls out with everyone.

But when you have a member of the board telling reporters and his friends what’s happened BUT he was also who tipped someone about mr may in December. It won’t take the boards long to work it out

I understand all of those words, but putting them in that order doesn't make any sense whatsoever

I don’t think Aaron has got it wrong. It might not come to pass but it’s not a lazy knee-jerk comment. Fenty stays, crowds will drop (potentially by a huge amount judging by what I’ve heard and read), the fans won’t rally round like they did last time we went out the League, there will be no appetite for any new ‘Op Promotion’. We could easily be looking at NLN the season after next, and so the downward spiral continues.

Completely agree.

If we kick off the new season in the Conference and with Fenty still at the helm, gates will be absolutely rock bottom.  Who's gonna buy a ticket at that point, certainly not me.  That's my lot done.  I can take relegation (just) if there's the likelihood of a brighter future.  I can't take a bleak future in a godforsaken league.

Lower gates = lower budget = poorer players = decline down the leagues.

Fenty engaged in selling his shares because he wants out.  It's not for the good of club.  He won't invest a penny more than he has to in the club.  Any investment would be to protect his existing loans.  There will be no investment from his part in a push to get back in the Football League.

My thoughts are that Stockwood and Pettit can read the room and know that it has to be a clean break. Having Fenty out of the way will give them so much goodwill as we look to move forward into the future.

We don't know the reasons for Shutes walking away but Stockwood was disappointed and didn't wish him well which suggests the reason is business.

I think that we are all underestimating Stockwood and Pettit on here. They are successful businessmen who have been around the City of London and have seen it all and done it all before. They won't let a glorified Grimsby fishmonger push them around or dictate to them. They have bided their time and waited, Fenty duly obliged with the May affair, and they stepped in.

Shutes left for personal reasons, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that looking at all the grief Fenty gets, he's decided it's not for him and walked away with his sanity intact,  and I for one don't blame him.

The takeover will be completed soon, and then hopefully we will see progress off and on the pitch to rival, if not surpass that of the Imps.

KEEP BELIEVING
