Barry.
9/10

Just finished season 3 of this, which is billed as a half hour black comedy crime drama thriller, and it gets darker by the series.

It centres around Barry Berkman, former US Marine and now contract killer, who wants to give up killing people and become an actor, but keeps on getting dragged back in by his handler, who is desperate to keep him in the gun for hire business.

It stars Bill Hader, who also joint created the show and also has Henry Winkler as Gene, Barry's acting coach. Gene can't get a gig because he is a colossal pain in the ar$e and has upset everyone in Hollywood, as well as alienating his family.

It's funny and chaotic and I have loved every series.

Thoroughly recommended.

Started watching this last week as I'd heard nothing but positive reviews from media and friends, only 3 or 4 episodes in but pretty much instantly loving it. Lazy observation aside as they both have a hitman theme but it has a bit of the aura of one of my favourite films, Grosse Point Blank.

Grosse Point Blank is also one of my favourite films and I agree, it does have the same vibe.

We Own This City
(9/10)

True story from the makers of the The Wire. Marvel at just how f*cked America is.

I've watched that too and was staggered at the levels of corruption in the Baltimore police force.

Not a patch on The Wire though.

Agree with this - 9/10 from Mrs & Mrs Knut.

Not completely sold by the ending and I can already picture the second series being as far fetched and strung out as a Fabregas transfer rumour.

Cast was brilliant.

The ending really disappointed me but the acting was terrific. Was really, really in to it and so was my partner up until the ending which let it down somewhat.

Agreed. Both leave you with the conclusion that nothing will ever change.

We Own This City
9/10

Firstly The Wire is one of the best TV series in history and one of my absolute favourites. We Own This City will rightly draw comparisons with it for obvious reasons but, I think it’s a little unfair. By balance against it I agree it’s not as good but it’s still brilliant and is better than 90% of the programmes out there and I feel it’s a different strand of the same thread.
I feel it’s a must watch and as others have mentioned the levels of corruption are astonishing and bleak.

Just to jump on the 'the wire' bandwagon - absolutely loved that program.  Suffered in later series like all such programmes do but still solid watching.  Series 1 was a masterpiece.

I've recently watched 'the night of', another HBO series I think, it was really good and suspenseful.

Another outstanding series! Riz Ahmed and John Turturro are great in it (unsurprisingly).

I've watched a fair few series on Netflix but for me the best one still has to be Narcos. Dramatised account of the true story of Pablo Escobar the Columbian drug king. Very captivating series I felt.
