The original TV version of Up the Junction is on BBC4 now. I’ve seen the later film with Denis Waterman.

Classic gritty British kitchen sink drama. Acting and direction is so good it feels more like a fly on the wall documentary at times. Very moving.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

I’ve finally got round to starting this-obviously I’m late to the party and there are another 72 episodes to go which is daunting but I’m hooked already. Cheers 👍🏻

Glad you're enjoying it. Gets better with each series I thought.

Defending Jacob 6/10.

Assistant D.A investigating the murder of a schoolboy is taken off the case when evidence starts to point toward his own son as the prime suspect. He then has to try and steer the investigation from the sidelines.

Started well but became a bit muddled and I saw the ending coming from a mile away and it fizzled out for me.

The Marvelous Mrs Maisel.  Series 4  8/10

Me and Ms Ginny are enjoying this series set in the late 50's/early 60's about a Jewish housewife who discovers she has a knack for stand up comedy while accompanying her husband around the comedy circuit of New York.

She goes against tradition and pursues a career as a comic despite the prejudices that go with it in that era.

It's fun and funny, with quite a cast of characters.

That’s good news then as I’ve finished the first series now and I absolutely loved it. I will be starting the second ASAP.

Have you seen the film Funny Cow?

Yes I have and enjoyed it. Been a fan of Maxine Peake since Dinnerladies.

Not to mention some other excellent British actors in the film.

The Marvelous Mrs Maisel is brilliant stuff. Very nice to have something pretty light-hearted/good-natured to watch when most of the other good shows tend to be rather grittier..

That said, I'm looking forward to the last series of Better Call Saul which is out before too long, I think.

For the comic book stuff, I watched the first episode of Moon Knight the other day. A bit WTF? at times, but in a good way.

I just thought Variations on a similar theme with Mrs Maisel though  it sounds like Maisel is far lighter in tone. I may give it a whirl with Mrs Sandford. Peake is a brilliant actress so no argument from me on that score.

The Americans
Season 2
9/10

A cracking recommendation from Ginny this and for anyone who hasn’t watched it I fully endorse doing so. Brilliant!

Straight on to the 3 season for me.

Supernature
9/10

Follows Ricky Gervais as he gives his take on the rules of comedy, spoiling his cat and debunks the supernatural, concluding that actual nature is super enough.

If you’re easily offended or don’t like Ricky Gervais’ normal stand up I’d advise against this strongly as it pushes the boundaries more than normal.
If however, you are like me and the think the man is a genius and extremely funny, then what you waiting for?
