If Fenty remains a minority shareholder can't the fans potentially club together and buy all the shares off him? Or buy some of the shares atleast to make him even less influential?

Cheers. Just read the Telegraph article. Spoken with a family member who actually met him on a separate matter a few weeks ago. For what it is worth, he said he was a genuine guy who seemed to have the regeneration of Grimsby in his heart.

"The socialism I believe in is everybody working for the same goal and everybody having a share in the rewards. That’s how I see football, that’s how I see life.” Bill Shankly

I’d like to know what’s in it for Shutes ?
Running a football clubs a thankless task and even the regeneration stuff can’t be done just out of an act of kindness .
There must be something in it to make it worth while

A quick search for 'Philanthropist'...
"A philanthropist is a person who donates time, money, experience, skills or talent to help create a better world. "
There's nothing 'in it' for true Philanthropists(other than satisfaction of helping out), not to be confused with the durrent dirge of celebrity-types who do stuff for 'charidee' while promoting themselves and their music/books.
This guy looks to tick all the boxes though.

Fwiw i think it might be a 'hobby project' for them, a bit like he's done with his art n architecture interests. He's comfortably off, doesn't seem the sort like Phillip green or Ashley who need to be doing deals and making money even though they're rich enough already, so devoted his time energy and intellect to ino interesting worthwhile projects. Perhaps best to look at him like one of those rich Victorian philanthropist s , but for the 21st century. He certainly seems v.different to most other football chairmen

Jesus fuccking Christ, this place knocks me ill.

Is it beyond people to look at the bigger picture for 30 seconds and not reduce everything down to the size of any owner’s wallet? We don’t know a great deal about this bloke but given his write up in the Telegraph, he looks forward thinking, well connected and like someone who could finally get a proper stadium project over the line. If we’re looking at restoring some pride and potential back in this dead club, THAT is the one thing that will make or break us. Not whether or not he’ll fund a league two left back on £5k a week who’ll be with us for 18 months.

Pissing cash up the wall on players doesn’t mean a great deal - look at Notts County last year. And having a rich owner doesn’t mean it’s an automatically good deal for the club - ask any Newcastle fan what they think of billionaire Mike Ashley.

We need someone to drag this club into the 21st Century, hopefully this is someone who can do it. Players come & go, it’s the club that needs the most work this summer.

aye...the books show that the club has been breaking even more or less on average over the last few years and thats while the club has stood still / gone backwards under the current stewardship....someone with a bit of understanding and community buy in could increase support....city knowledge could help increase the commercial income ......so without throwing loads of personal cash in, income could be vastly increased.
A flashy razzle dazzle money bags type owner could be more dangerous in the long run.
With him having a part in the Grimsby deal then he obviously has a wider interest which is a little bit of reassurance that he isnt looking for a quick buck.
Fingers crossed.

This is all well and good but what about the floodlights? GTFC can't make that happen, a take over will be impossible!

I wonder if jolley is as excited as we are.suspect that they will find a kindred spirit in him and he must be running his hands on glee at not having to deal with j.f. Control freakery and actually having a decent budget and boss to work with.

Ps the girls in the shop and the office may be in for quite a busy week if this comes off

Clubs can only spend a certain percentage of their turnover on wages. I don't know how we fare on that but if we are spending the maximum, pumping money in couldn't be spent on wages anyway.

We need a commercially driven CEO who will actively chase sponsorships and 7 day income streams as an owner throwing money at it doesn't count as revenue.

I would be much happier if we drove forward with the stadium, improved our training facilities and brought in a couple of sponsors. A feel good factor would improve fan and staff morale, which in turn should improve results.

Improved results equal improved gates, which obviously increases turnover.

The opportunity could be here now to clear out the dead wood and press forward with some of the excellent marketing professionals we have involved (Sam Strandt and Liam Emmerson).

Looks like Mr Shutes has his ego in check. If so, then we'll be alright.

'I walked in the dressing room. The window was open and I thought that a sea fret had got in. Then I saw smoke billowing from a pipe in the corner of the room...it was my centre-forward. He looked seven stone wet through. He went on to score thirty-odd goals that season.' Lawrie McMenemy on encountering the legend that was Matt Tees.

That wasn't the total wage budget, that was the loss he was covering.

Scunthorpe’s last 2 published accounts show a combined loss of around £14.5m. And the next accounts will include paying off 2 managers and their huge (ultimately futile) spending spree last January.
