This may be a controversial view but I’d hate to see us start losing that amount of money.  If it all goes wrong the club could end up in a worse place.  A bit of investment to modernise the club, get get the stadium project going and attract a handful of quality players and then aim to live within our means would do for me.

EDIT - Sorry LondonMariner meant to respond to another post! Needless to say I agree with your view.

Please correct me if I am wrong but based on his previous business ventures (what Forza and others have dug up on here and whats in the telegraph) he does not seem to be the flash in the pan sort and will be throwing money at it.

I think the focus will be on reconnecting the club and the town. If we double season ticket sales as a consequence (probably unlikely) then this would be a significant windfall in any case for the playing budget.

Also if the takeover does get over the line it will be very interesting to see what the Mariners Trust role will now be. Really hoping the new guy wants them to be an integral part of the club going forward.

How much is the guy worth because if he is "going for it" this season and beyond he will need a bottomless pit of money . Swann was allegedly putting 30k a week in to fund scunny going for it

Jesus fuccking Christ, this place knocks me ill.

Is it beyond people to look at the bigger picture for 30 seconds and not reduce everything down to the size of any owner’s wallet? We don’t know a great deal about this bloke but given his write up in the Telegraph, he looks forward thinking, well connected and like someone who could finally get a proper stadium project over the line. If we’re looking at restoring some pride and potential back in this dead club, THAT is the one thing that will make or break us. Not whether or not he’ll fund a league two left back on £5k a week who’ll be with us for 18 months.

Pissing cash up the wall on players doesn’t mean a great deal - look at Notts County last year. And having a rich owner doesn’t mean it’s an automatically good deal for the club - ask any Newcastle fan what they think of billionaire Mike Ashley.

We need someone to drag this club into the 21st Century, hopefully this is someone who can do it. Players come & go, it’s the club that needs the most work this summer.

Not controversial for me. The thought of watching Town play Championship or even PL football in a decade is a dream for me but is achievable with big money investment. I would get more joy watching us get there in 20 years if it comes with proper investment in the club’s infrastructure, winning the Town over and getting 10k crowds in to BP regularly to build finances and the added bonus of the Town becoming a nicer place to live.

I’ve got my conoco hat at the ready!  It’s faded a bit since I received it in what felt like 1628.

In all seriousness, this is a great bit of news for all connected with the club, we’ve waited and waited for something positive after years of abject performances, free fall through the leagues and the cycle of manger after manager, player after player just picking up their retirement bonus.

All I ask for as a town fan is someone who ensures we’re financially secure, cares about the club and the surrounding area and how to engage fans now but also the future generation. We don’t like Lincoln, but look at their Match day experience with the fan zone... so easy to replicate and helps bring a sense of togetherness about the place.

If we get a new stadium out of this then he’ll have the backing of 99.9% of the fans and will have done more than Fenty during his stewardship.

Onwards and upwards! It’s potentially a very good time to be a town fan!!

What a crock of shite this is. Firstly, he’s going to have more money than any old Tom, male private or Harry.

Secondly and more to the point, the main gripe people had with the current regime is that nothing changed in 17 years. The club had been left behind, BP allowed to fall in to a state of disrepair and the relationship between board and fans was at an all time low. If somebody comes in and modernises the club, improves the match day experience as well as getting the fans back on side then I don’t care if they don’t come in and throw a ton of money at it. Down the road at Lincoln they haven’t chucked money at it, just reinvested money they got from their cup run and about £250K per season from their new chairman which isn’t that much.

If the old board is removed and the new one is progressive and starts to create something the fans can get behind then the amount of money available will increase anyway. At that point it is up to us, if we really want a team worth investing time and money in then we’ll have to show a new regime that there is the capacity for greater support when there is something worth supporting.

I think ‘patience’ is the key word here.
Hopefully the news will boost ST sales and give the transfer kitty a much needed boost.
However, these things take time to evolve.
Like most on here, I’m more than happy to welcome a much needed new regime.
But let’s not expect miracles overnight.
And as Ska says. It’s not about coming in a throwing money at the club. There’s a hell of a lot of restructuring throughout to be done. And I must say, first impressions look good.

I’ve slated JF for not making it easier to sell the club. But if he’s held out for someone like this then maybe an apology is due.  Someone with local connections is far more likely to look after the club.

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'
