I’m still getting over The Carlton on Wellington St closing, the menu used to be brilliant you could have a choice of,

- Chips
- Fish & Chips
- Fish

That was it......., oh yeah they used to sell pop too.

The best eateries have limited menus. Stick to what you’re good at.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

My nephew and niece (aged 7 and 11; discerning chip eaters) maintain that the chips from the kiosk close to the boating lake are the best. But, they are keen on cheesy chips. An aberration.

I know the owner of said kiosk and I don't think even he would say the chips are the best from there. Kids eh!

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

There was a chippy at the top of Oxford st (cleethorpes) that began my love affair with spam fritters in a bap 🤤

Also, worked at ‘ye olde chippy’ on the high st and the staff meals were very decent.

I did a thread on here yonks ago about the back street chip shops that had gone from the town , even just in that small area of Cleethorpes......Williams St, Humber St , Brighton St , Nicholson St, Bentley St.... all gone.
