If i am not mistaken, a proper fish pattie as sold {or used to be} in our area is two large slices of potato with fish in the middle, battered and fried, whilst the so called yorkie fish pattie is what we in this area would call a fishcake
Please feel free to correct me if im wrong.

That's right ,Bentley St  used to do a really good one in the 60's always had one on my way home from the pub.

Relatives lived in Bentley Street - and we used to get Pattie and chips and eat it in their house before the match

Like a lot of fishermen my uncle used to make his own patties, a dozen or so and put them in the freezer compartment in the fridge that people used to have before fancy freezers.

Never had a yearning for one myself but I seem to remember the Bentley St chippy doing deep-fried mars bars?

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Gosh the Mariners chippy is absolutely terrible, I remember before it became the Mariners it was Josh's and that was rather good.

Last time we used the Pea Bung it was a collegues final day at work and she brought us all fish and chips from the Pea Bung and that was very underwhelming to be honest.

I think that's a Sheffield/Barnsley thing.

Living in Wales I haven't had a fish patty in years, even when I explained what it was they had no idea what I was on about. When I first moved here they looked at me gone out when I asked for scraps.

The problem is that the fish isn’t as fresh as it used to be. Go to the north east of Scotland for a real treat.

I agree, some of the best fish and chips ever, except on one occasion when visiting my Son up there, we stopped at a chippy on Fraseburgh, and they were awful, due no doubt to the fact that the guy in front of us had his order of a deep fried pork pie, dumped in the same pan as our fish.
They'll deep fry anything up there.
