I don't doubt that some of the issues caused by Brexit could have been dealt with better (e.g. properly finding and resourcing the asylum system instead of running it down to weaponise it), but it's just another example of how little the Brexiteers actually understood the EU and it's relationship with the UK. Elect clowns, expect a circus.

Of course, if we hadn't had such an incompetent bunch of clowns running the country for the past 13 years, then Brexit probably wouldn't have occurred in the first place...

Staggered to read the other day that George Osborne and Ed Balls are going to do an economics podcast. George flipping Osborne! The man whose austerity has led to hundreds of thousands of excess deaths and left the NHS crumbling. Balls should be absolutely flipping well ashamed with himself for being pally with that ghoul. Balls is a highly-qualified economist who somehow doesn't appear to have the first flipping clue about how the economy works. Not surprising since he's another Oxford PPE-er and LSE graduate. He even went to Harvard to burnish his neoliberal credentials further.

No idea what Humbo said as he's one of the few people on my blocklist. I'd imagine it is still incoherent right-wing bullshit, if the bits I've seen other people quote in this thread are anything to go by.

Another remain Lie was that Brexit would cost up to 3 million jobs, but we’ve actually reduced our employment rate from 4.7% to 3.9% since we left the EU and we’ve added a million jobs to our economy. Speaking of growth France has grown 8.8% Britain 8.7% Germany 8.1% Italy 6.1% so clearly not having affect on growth the way it was predicted. By July 2022 our exports to Europe were not only the highest since Brexit they where the highest ever!

Perhaps you think the statistics in the publications in the House of Commons library are lies because they are assembled by the “Blob”. The value of uk exports to the EU is below 2019 levels in real terms; average transit speeds are 8% slower than when we left the single market and that’s before the full customs checked are introduced later this year. Uk inflation is 1.8% higher than EU inflation, uk GDP is 0.5% below pre-pandemic levels EU GDP is 2.25% above.

Bloomberg on supply chains.

Unemployment hasn’t been an issue for the UK economy for years because we are stacked with trashy zero hours employment. Skilled labour shortages has been. McDonalds franchises employ 170,000 people about equal to NHS vacancies.

Brexit may yet decimate the UK EV industry and cost loads of high paid engineering jobs but it look like massive subsidies are going to be laid out to support it starting with a battery factory in Rees-Mogg’s back yard.

If you listen to Feargal Sharkey’s podcast he talks about the customs border in the Irish Sea being obvious to him, it was to me as well. Then Alistair Campbell replies -  shame it wasn’t obvious to BJ. But of course it was, BJ knew all along but just lied about it. If the truth has been told pre-referendum that would have completely undermined the DUPs pre-referendum Leave support. The Leave vote in NI would have collapsed. That wouldn’t have changed the overall result but the margin would have been sub 1 million. The ignorance and disdain of NI from the current Tories is a disgrace and an insult to John Major, Clinton and Mo Mowlem and peace process.

My wife’s family are from the unionist community but I agree with Feargal, who is also family on my side, we are on the road to Irish unification - it’s when not if, and key thing is how the tradition’s of NI Protestant community is preserved after reunification. Next reading for me is the book recommended - Northern Protestants.

Funny that this story should come out today.

Had the pleasure of meeting with the Director of Procurement and Estates for the DfE today, even as an employee, he provided a caveat that everything will take much longer than prescribed timelines because they’re having to do millions of pounds of repairs on new school buildings because things were rushed through…

He then told us not to expect too much because the department is a shambles…

He’s worked for the DfE for around 12 years and he’s never known anything like it…flipping terrifying…

When you consciously underfund public services for years and years, it shouldn't be a surprise when they start to fail. These Tory wreckers know they are on the way out so I wonder what sort of other excrement they'll pull before we have the chance to get rid of them at the ballot box?

Unfortunately, Starmer doesn't have the courage even of a Blair/Brown partnership who knew they needed to pump money in to reverse years of decline. The next government (almost certainly Labour) won't do anything more than tinker around the edges as things continue to deteriorate.

Actually she closed her constituency office and stopped replying to emails and dealing with case work about 2 years ago didn’t she?

An absolute disgrace of a woman and the only decent thing Sunak has done as PM is ensuring she doesn’t get to freeload in the Lords for the rest of her life/until it’s abolished.

Beat me to it. Was about to post the same.

He's a moron, even among morons, and we put him in charge of the armed forces.

A known liar and scam artist, who has incredibly held 5 cabinet posts in a year, just shows how morally bankrupt and desperate for talent the Tories are.

This trumps Dorries as culture secretary.

Grant Shapps . Or is it Michael Green? The man who sold get rich quick schemes on the internet under a false name. Fail upwards in this cabinet.
