I see Boris is now the proud owner of a Grimsby Town shirt to go with his hat.

I wonder if the pair of local MP's cared to mention that football clubs could go to the wall shortly.

Well we’re owned by an incompetent Tory, figures we’d hand a shirt to one...hope some girl private paid for it, or are we both skint when handing stuff to mates?

Interested to know the opinions of the anti-kneel people who said football and politics should be seperate entities.

Never nice to see us being used by people who don’t give a sh1t about GTFC. That shirt means too much to too many people to be cheapened by a pathetic publicity stunt.

I would have no problem with Vickers or Nici posing in a shirt, after all they have been elected to represent the area. I object to the club I support being used for political campaigns and shameless photo opportunities. Hunting Boris down and posing for a photo showing off the shirt is just not acceptable. The thing is, I can't blame the club because it wouldn't surprise me if it was ordered online or in person by someone like Lia's husband, who isn't called Mr Nici...

Regardless of who has the majority it will alienate sections of fans. Not all fans, not the majority (it might be but we'll never know), just sections of fans and causing divisions isn't going to be a wise move.

Politicians pretending to care about football clubs is always embarrassing regardless of their party. Remember Austin Mitchell jumping on the Wembley bandwagon and trying to make it about him. The Farage stunt shouldn’t have happened due to his divisive politics and I cancelled my Trust membership in the back of it. On this occasion I don’t think the club are to blame but the sight of Mr Johnson holding a town shirt whilst his incompetence threatens our entire existence is pretty shameless.

There have been celebrities and politicians photographed with club shirts for press releases and various promotions for donkeys years, some you might like but some you don't. The man is the Prime Minister of the UK after all. A bit sad that anybody hates somebody's guts but that is the nature of today's world I guess.

The point is - you either ban completely anybody posing with a football shirt or you accept some people will do it who you don't like/hate.

In my previous life I often posed with a Town shirt in the press, and apart from my ex wife, or indeed the present wife on occasions using it as darts practice,  I would be mortified if people thought it was out of order.

I’m glad I don’t live in Grimsby anymore. The place is falling to bits, an absolute dump & going backward (like much of the north & midlands) and the BEST thing the MP can dish up is using the club as a prop for a cheap photo op on the day the govt potentially killed it.

How little she must think of her constituents, to think all they want is a photo of the PM holding a town shirt. “Ah yeah, this’ll impress the saps back in Grimsby”, and she’s pocketing over £80,000 a year for it!

The club needs to deal with the political parties in power at both a local and national level. That's a given. It doesn't need to be used as a political tool. Politicians should be helping the club survive and develop, not using it for cheap political stunts. The club should ensure it distances itself from all political parties and clarify it does not support the use of club memorabilia or facilities for political stunts.

Town fans have a diversity of political opinions and beliefs just like any club.

I find this sort of propaganda Bunter with a Town shirt worthless.For years now we have been fed bland disconnected politics in this country. We have major social problems going back years while our MPS acquire free food, free travel, etc Now if this stunt if this stimulates  Boris saves the lower reaches of the EFL with a proper thought out rescue plan then may be mixing politics with sport may work.

What the Town needs is real investment. The Docks are a totally ignored left to crumble into the Dust That's a real issue, Not giving someone a Town shirt who couldn't care less about places outside the Westminster bubble.

Labour have been in government for 12 of the last 50 years. There has never been "decades" of Labour rule. In fact the only party to have ruled for decades (in modern times) are the Tories.

Unfortunately, our local MPs have misunderstood the mood a little, to do this on the day after football crowds were banned for the foreseeable future was probably not very wise. As noted I think very few people in this world are out and out racists but granted some have more racism  than others.

Absolute nonsense. My young kids haven’t got a racist bone in their body. They couldn’t care less about the skin colour of the people they play with. Make no mistake racism is learnt behaviour usually from parents. That makes it all the more tragic that it is still going on today.

Whilst politics and football, contrary to what some think, do go hand in hand annoyingly, these sort of things aren’t helpful. It’s no more a publicity stunt that is to inflate the egos of no mark local MPs doing little for the town.

They make films or write songs etc. You don’t have to like them but they’re harmless on most respects (unless they were a 1970s BBC presenter) but politics is far too divisive so the simple response is that that club shouldn’t be allowing this sort of stuff to happen.

Ok, to be fair and balanced  I can confirm I have seen one of the people in this photo at a Town match.  (Vickers)

Another I have seen on telly on a show called PMQs, where he was being told off by the Speaker for not answering the questions. He is our PM.

And the third one I understand to be my Member of Parliament and also my local ward councillor, but apart from this photo, and a tv appearance defending the algorithm hours before a govt u-turn, she is invisible on both counts.

Everything is divisive this day and age. Had some celeb been photographed with a Town shirt you can bet your last pound there would be people on here straight away saying it is terrible, he/she is not a good look for the club.

Just live and let let live. Someone important gets photographed with a football shirt happens all the time. Corbyn did it at Blackpool last year I think and of course it is just for a photo opp. Corbyn or Boris have no particular interest in Blackpool FC or GTFC but it generates a bit of press coverage.

Hence look at anyones psyche though and Iam sure we can get dig out dirt in all of us. I remember when I was working with some people. They "hated racists" but yet turned around and bullied someone mercilessly  to their face as they were of a weak persona and having challenges at home . Hence double standards.It stopped though because a few of us  stood up for this person . Hence had people not stood up for racial prejudice in the past Iam sure these same people who "hated" racists would have victimised black people. Or disabled friends of mine who were  in wheelchairs got  picked on and mocked and where Ive had to step in for them as they were getting harassed .

I think its a shame Boris has not  kept up with the times and has held some antiquated racial undertones in his language. Hence Churchill and Gandhi expressed racial views as well but done a lot of good as well albeit in there time there was a lot  more racism which is why it wasn't the issue it is today. Hence society has moved on for the better.

But lets not forget the left are not completely innocent either with regards to certain groups .Remember the issues Labour had with anti Semitism in the party?.

To be fair to keir Starmer he has tackled antisemitism  effectively it seems eg :

If you believe Corbyn is or was anti Semitic you have had the wool pulled well and truly over your eyes.  That a concerted campaign looking back years and years could find nothing more than a liked tweet about bankers shows how desperate the campaign was.
I do not disagree that many traditional voters are quite racist, immigration was and is a big issue, I have been canvassing and the amount of people in some traditional labour areas who say “I don’t mind if you put me down as a racist” was surprising.

As noted I have always voted for the green party but can see good and bad issues with labour and conservative policy's. Hence no party is going to get it right all the time.

The issue was many Corbyns supporters were sympathetic to the plight of the Palestinians, kicked out of their country to form Israel, and to the state of those in the occupied territories of the Goan heights the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, a massive funding and disinformation campaign with many even within the Labour Party taking large sums and organising against their own leader. It remains to be seen were Starmer sits on this, he’s not big on policy at the moment, It’s 4 more years before it will make any difference anyway, it’s much easier to watch the shitshow and let the Tories self harm.
Like you I am naturally in the Greens, Corbyn adopted a lot of our ideas for a new green economy and a more equal country, I believe we missed a chance to change the country, those in power will never let it get as close as 2017 again.

Often, it takes a crisis for a leader’s credentials to either rise or be exposed. Nothing that’s happened in the past six months has enhanced BoJos reputation.

Absolutely astounding that you would try and hide behind the confected idea of Corbyn enabling antisemites in order to defend Boris Johnson, despite his own well-documented history of antisemitism. This from a recent Guardian piece on his book ‘72 Virgins’ -

I like to think there's good in everyone and Iam a strong believer in thinking good is always the stronger universal force in the long run.

Granted I may have been taking in somewhat by Boris's outward charm without realising he has some issues he still needs to deal with. But then dont we all albeit some a lot  more than others.

When I was a kid, the only homeless people you saw on the street were winos. Then in the 80s you started seeing young kids. Now we’ve got flipping food banks.

Knowing when you have got something wrong and then admitting it is a strength Rick. I applaud you for for it, it’s something we could do with more of on this forum and in life generally.

The left are always first to harangue anyone for racism yet its own leader for 4 years did absolutely nothing to combat this form of racism. The new leader has had to disown him (Corbyn) its Jewish MP;s had to disown him and Jewish leaders had to disown him.

I always think its what inside someone that really counts Lew.

With regards to yourself as noted before going of  politics somewhat I have a lot of respect for the way you stuck up for some of our players. Hence those that were not the best technically but those that showed effort you appreciated  as with others on here  . Hence players read the fishy and out right mockery and sarcasm dont help them.  Ive known players who have played pro/semi pro so I know how some opinions  can kill players. Its like Rio Ferdinand said in his book  Alex Ferguson used differing psychology on differing players. Hence were all wired differently. Out right praise for some players made them rest on their laurels eg Rio Ferdinand and their standards slipped .Others were confidence players eg Nani who was quality on his day and always needed a confidence booster. Out right condemnation by the manager would have killed his performances. Hence thats why Rio Ferdinand rated Alex Ferguson so much. Knew how to use psychology effectively  to get the best out of his team.

Nice one Boris. Gets more Trump like by the day.
