Living over Lincoln way I briefly played Sunday league about 14 years ago and played with a lad called Jonny Bell who played for Lincoln City, think he ended up at Stamford. He was decent.,[/quote]

Was that for FV Jerusalem? I drink in the Plough at Skellingthorpe with Jonny’s dad and Jon, painter & Decorator now, comes in most weekends and runs the pubs pool team.

Played in same team as Chris Woods and also played against Ashley Cole..and not forgetting that I played with and against our very own Dave Boylen, admittedly at a much slower pace.

He was 15 at the time but he was brilliant even at that age, We were playing in a 5 a side tournament and he kept a clean sheet in every game..

Just realised I can add Danny North now as played this season against him and also Jammal Shahin who I think Neil Woods gave a contract to...he had ridiculously fast feet and could wriggle out of all sorts of tight spots.

I was 15 during Italia 90 and I remember wanting Woods to be England’s No.1, but Robson stuck with shilton. You have to wonder what may have been.

I remember Woods playing more regularly once Shilton retired and I think he was No.1 at Euro 1992 maybe, but not qualifying for USA 94 probably ended things, with David Seaman emerging.

Woods WAS fantastic though, hugely underrated.

Funny old world ain't it, I went to a similar thing in Gainsborough around the same time but it was ran by ex Leeds and Barnsley player Glynn Snodin, at the time both him and Steve Sherwood were playing for Gainsborough Trinity I recall.

Yeah it is mate , I am not a big thinker of the past but someone mentioning Steve brought back memories , they were good times when you just played for enjoyment  .

I have only been to Gainsborough once in my life and it was for our 'big school trip' around the same time to 'Gainsborough old hall' is that still there ?

Yeah I forgot I played against Dean Crombie when he played for Adelaide in the Lincoln Sunday League and with Gary Crosby for Monsons United and he also made a few guest appearances for Ruston Bucyrus when Lincoln United didn’t have a game.

In terms of getting close to the premiership I've played with neighbours of mine( training in local parks)  who were both on Chelsea's books in the youth team. Both were technically good but didn't make it. Reminds me of a documentary I saw on TV following youngsters at Chelseas youth academy . Only John Harley and Jody Morris came through albeit with limited success at Chelsea. Again reflects how tough it is to make it professionally.

One life,one love .
