Decisive, especially a strengthening of defence with a signing from a league above.

Hopefully, the new No10 needed, and some raw pace and eagerness to impress from the young lad from Coventry.

Clean sheets needed more than anything to begin with, please?

Cov fans raving about the forward we've signed saying there's no way he should be in L2. Quick and powerful forward that loves going in behind and we've already heard from Hull fans about Harry Wood. Looks like we've addressed 3 areas we very much needed to address.

HMS urine the League.

That meme of a seagull about to burst into a chorus of E-I-E-I-E-I-O...

All that jazz.

In all honesty Wood is the only one I've heard of and that was only because he was mentioned on a couple of threads the other day and sounds promising based on that.   However I think I prefer the signings you've never heard of as opposed to the ones you recognise and then ultimately let you down.

Coventry have got quite a decent youth set-up and if Obikwu has anywhere near the amount of attacking talent that Will Bapaga had then we're in for a treat.

On paper it's the signing of Tharme that I find most interesting.  Young, from a higher level and you hope adds a bit more pace to the backline.  I'm sure the critics will already have identified that will potentially mean that we've got the pairing at centre-back in Tharme and Rodgers that played the bulk of the games in a relegation season....Alas, let's just wait and see first, yeah?

Perhaps we can all (appreciate not all) chill now and respect our number 3. Leave the manager and owners alone through this difficult time.and get behind the players, staff and directors. X

Coventry supporters seem quite effusive about Obikwu's potential so hopefully he turns out to be an exciting option up top.

Tharme on a 2.5 year contract from Blackpool with an undisclosed fee paid is uhh interesting. Apparently has a very long throw but he never broke through with them. Aside from a couple of EFL Trophy appearances he's only featured in a matchday squad in League One once this season where he didn't even make it off the bench. His only real league experience was getting relegated out of League One alongside Harvey Rodgers in an Accrington Stanley side that conceded in 77 goals in 2022-23. I'm not sure i'd be jumping through hoops to recreate that defensive partnership... guess we'll just have to wait and see on this one!

At the beginning of the week, we wondered what the transfer business would be and how soon. Along comes Friday and 3 sign for us, 1 being permanent. DA certainly knows how to surprise us.

I'm sure they all do well, given time.

I think the talk of one in and one out from the board was brinksmanship to stop agents or clubs overcharging us. They admitted they’d made mistakes in the summer announcing we had some cash so were hardly like to do it again. And if you looked at our squad with only three strikers and three centre backs, it clearly had gaps in that I’m sure Hurst would have liked to have filled ideally. I bet this won’t be the last of the business.

Anyway, a friend of mine who’s a season ticket holder at Coventry says Obikwu is impressive in cameos and they’re doing well in the Championship so that’s exciting.

What I’m concerned about is the poor performance of the Artell January Window thread - no one posted any rumours about Obikwu or Tharme(s) or even just incomings.

Business done early again, although the summer early business hasn’t delivered a league position that we’d hoped it has to be better than scrabbling around on the last day like last Jan.

Some mixed references to him on the Blackpool forum.  Some mention of him being a bit slow, and another saying he would not fit in with their passing style of play!  But the main consensus is that he is not League One quality but could be ok in League Two.

Obikwu gives a very good interview, interestingly saying that he has been tracked since the start of the season but there was a delay in Town acting.

Very well spoken, and eloquent in wanting to help the team by setting himself a 10 goal target.

All 3 seem eager to impress and get playing, but at least haven't "glowed" about this being a project.

Another long throw in Doug, so we now hopefully have another attacking option.

Let's see how the bench looks tomorrow?

Well, by the sounds of it, 'Sniffer' Wood has either a cold or has a constant dribbling nose. If he has a cold, and his breathing is affected, as it is with most people, he might not make the starting XI, or even the bench.

Will be interesting to see if DA instantly goes for 2 up front with Obikwu and Rose, or if he is going to load the midfield to counter the Notts County midfield.

Im pretty sure Tharme will shoehorn himself into the starting XI, but out of Rodgers and Maher, I'd drop Rodgers.

Firstly the positions filled are spot on
Secondly the young striker from Coventry has been on the radar for some time
Whether the other two signings will get in and perform think the jury is out but we will back them
Expect all three to feature in the squad but may not start

Think it’s great that despite all the bad things that have gone on in the background, the club has signed three players and kept things in proportion. The accident at Tetley Lock last weekend was heartbreaking.

It’s a pity that the fishy posts expressing sympathy for the family and the club could not be replicated on other topics. Some of the name calling and criticism of fellow fishy followers is quite unacceptable and juvenile. I know of at least one respectable contributor who has received abuse who has simply withdrawn as a contributor. I won’t name them unless they want me to, but they have provided accurate information about the club unlike some of the incoherent ramblings of other members.

I’m sorry that such a useful fans forum gets discredited by a relatively small number of idiots who don’t know how to express themselves. If you can’t post comments in an acceptable and accurate way, please go away.

I will say that it's myself that is being referred to.

Having provided knowledge reference ongoing transfer news & other info I found myself being discredited and my integrity questioned.

The basis for this I believe was in response for me previously calling out poor behavior of the DN35 podcast.  When i was asked to raise my concerns directly I was blocked on facebook and then ignored via other methods.

There are some great people here all with the common purpose of supporting the club but there are people that use the forum to take chunks out of each other.
I've found myself drawn into this and i don't like myself for it.

So I've asked the mods to delete my account so I can restore my mental health to where I want it to be.  Thanks IlkleyMariner for speaking up.

Well that went really weirdly off piste.

The signings look good to me, especially a centre back that’s already played c. 30th games with one of our other cbs. .

As others have said a bit more pace up front definitely won’t hurt either!

Positive about these, but weird what the Cov lad said - the club were chasing him in the summer - does that mean that Hurst wanted him and Artell has just run with it?! That is strange.

You seem to be referring to our interaction. Honestly, I’m unsure how you have taken all of the above from, what was in my view, was a very mild pointing out of the player you mentioned been discussed in another thread.

Happy for anyone, yourself included, to post whatever they like about signings/info etc. However as I’m sure you’re aware there are a lot of people posting none sense (it’s half the fun with the transfer thread). With that in mind I don’t think it an unreasonable thing to point out and scrutinise that. Especially if you’re stating yourself you want to become a trusted source. As I later said genuinely good luck to you with that, however I still do not think pointing the above fact out is unreasonable - there was no abuse or attempt to “take a chunk out”

If you want to say it’s due to what you said a few months ago now. That’s fine, even thought it most certainly is not. You’ve been posting on here for a while now and I don’t think we’ve had a negative interaction. As I said at the time and again this week - your opinion is absolutely fine, no problem at all - people are allowed an opinion. If I’d had that much of a problem with it, I’d of perhaps said so by now on any of the other posts you’ve made and thought our interaction at the time about it was quite positive, despite me disagreeing with you.

As for engaging elsewhere, I can’t talk about anyone else, but I’m unaware that I have blocked or ignored you at all even so you were (and still are) free to reach out to me on here via a PM. One of the accounts I run is at the bottom of my signature here, I’m also contactable via that.

I’m always happy to self reflect on anything I say, none of us are perfect and I certainly am living proof of that. However I genuinely do struggle to see how our initial exchange can be interpreted in the above way. As for mental health that is really important so please do take that seriously. Out of respect for what you have said  I will leave the ball in your court however please reach out privately if you wish.

Positive about these, but weird what the Cov lad said - the club were chasing him in the summer - does that mean that Hurst wanted him and Artell has just run with it?! That is strange.

Not if the head of recruitment/scouts were after him. They might have shown their evidence of why they wanted him to DA and he might agree. It’s not just managers who make those decisions any more.

That’s a fair point, and I’m sure you’re right. I must admit, this sort of approach seems all too wannabe in my mind - we’re not in the Premier League. I know this will get more crosses than ticks, but the whole recruiting players on stats surely only really works if you have money to buy the best ones? Managers can’t like being told who to sign, surely?

Anyway. He does sound great! Good luck to these boys.

Reading between the lines and putting 2 and 2 together, I get the impression that most of our summer recruitment were very much Paul Hurst's men. That is a justifiable reason to get rid as it goes against the data driven approach we are going down.

If we sign more players identified and recommended by the Head of Recruitment and they aren't very good, I'm sure action will be taken. If managers keep knocking back recommendations without trying any of them, they leave themselves open to scrutiny by the board.

That's seems to be the way we're heading and it would add a degree of continuity to our transfer dealings i.e. we play a certain way and recruit players/managers/heads of recruitment/coaches/ Scotch egg manufacturers to fit that style/identity
That said, the data is  limited if it's just the one player. As we all know major extrapolation on minimal data is a dangerous thing.

I hope they all do well and give us the lift we need.

I do wonder if we could do something a little bit different in the player interviews though. I know they're just relieved to get the deal over the line (even if they only found out about it last night). I know we're a massive club and a sleeping giant. I know the supporters are different class and that really influenced them signing. What I don't know is what their favourite bread is for making toast or their top 5 Ealing comedies. Mix it up little please.

I doubt Joe Hutchinson just looks purely at data as some posts seem to be suggesting. He does live scouting too and found some good players for Lincoln before he joined us.

I very rarely use social media, dont have a twitter tik tok or youtube account, purely because of the keyboard warriors out there.
I post on the fishy, but repsect other people may have a different opinion or view to me, which is a what a forum is all about.
When posting a reply I try to reposnse in a way thats not personal to the original poster.
I am a carer for my wife who has mental health issues, so undestand the impact that a comment may have on others.
The majority of posters are repectful on this forum and I can post my opinions knowing that I will not get any abuse.
We all have one thing in common we are supporters of the best football club and black and white runs through our veins.
The next chapter has begun, lets see how it unfolds.

Some on here think we will have trouble staying up this season .

I have looked at the table and we are sixth from bottom.

We have to play the five teams below us and the five teams just above us.

Well if we can not get enough points out of those ten games we deserve to go down.

OR

Beat the teams near the top in the other ten games.

With the three  newly signed players and the squad learning how David wants them to play I am confident we will be mid table at least.

We are scoring for fun now so David just had to sort out our defensive problems.

BUT

If we are going to draw it might as well be 5-5 than 0-0 .

Well based on 10 minutes Harry Wood is the new Alan Pouton and and the lad from Coventry can go back now. They say it takes 8 seconds to decide if you like someone or not so that should be more then adequate
