Good line up. Who knows what formation he's setting us up with.
If its the usual 4231 I hope it's Rose in the hole tight behind Wilson

It's good to see Wilson start but no left back ( Amos & Glennon ) on the bench. The defence subs look light with only Maher so lets hope he's not needed, apart from a tactical sub.

Could switch it to a back 3 or Maher is left sided so could drop in...or Clifton can cover in emergency. Its attack we need to work on.

We’ve conceded 7, many preventable, in our last 3 games. No disputing we need to improve our attack, but there’s no shortage of evidence that we have work to do at the back as well.

Would be happier with Maher in the back line and Rodgers right sided centre back, where he is more comfortable, but I guess Maher is being eased back in.

Neither left back starting or even in the squad. You’ve got to imagine there will be at least one new left back in January?

Embarrassing defending yet again, but aided by a referee who had town down to 10 men and wouldn't let Wilson back on the pitch after he'd been assaulted by the tranmere keeper

How the hell did Tranmere get a free kick when their keeper flattened Wilson, giving them possession and leading to the goal?

Because Wilson didn't challenge for the ball and ran into the Goalkeeper who was in the air heading the ball.

Rubbish. Wilson had his eyes on the dropping ball and the keeper took him out. Should have been at least a booking for the keeper and our free kick.

Sorry, it's irrelevant if their keeper got to the ball first, he endangered an opponent by jumping into him at full force with his follow through and knew exactly what he was doing. Ludicrous that we're the ones punished and forced down to 10 as a result. Their keeper should have been booked

If it had been our keeper no doubt he would have been sent-off.

Yeah Wilson was watching the ball, not challenging for the ball as he ran into the keeper who was already in the air heading the ball. It's really not complicated why the free kick was given. There no intent, but Wilson cleaned out the keeper.

Really think Hurst should’ve gone and looked for a clinical striker 🙄

Wilson wasn't happy in the warm up so it was a gamble to start him but God we seem unlucky with injuries.

Wilson certainly didn't look too good as they went down the tunnel just before the start, he seemed to be having a late fitness test so clearly felt something in the warm up? So it was a gamble to start him, I just hope he isn't out for too long with this latest knock as he does seem to offer something different in the little we've seen of him, a fit Wilson woild be an asset I feel on what we've seen so far

What a finish Pyke, keeper had no chance

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

Think you missed the point there.....If he wasnt right in the warm up  its not rocket science to guess he should not start .. It was not about weather Hurst would get the blame

Pleased to be in front, two well taken goals from Rose and Pyke. How tight was the angle for Rose's

Slightly improve the passing and decision making in the final third and we could batter these

Very average 1st half of football.

We've scored 2 good goals for a change with out few  chances and conceded the usual poorly defended goal.

We're clearly on top since we scored our first.

He can't help it as the thought of us losing gives him a massive stiffy. He's a Hurst-sexual and the thought of him being punished gets him going.

Same old same old isn't it. Score a couple goals, then throw it away conceding the same cheap goals we always concede

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

Thought we were pretty good there interesting Hurst did revert to 4-4-2 even when Wilson got injured with Pyke - Clifton looks so much more effective in that tucked in wide role .

Should have won there , but still a point better off than we should of been out of the Barrow & Tranmere games .

Should have won ,but we have a platform now and need to kick on with yet more so called weaker teams to come .

Pyke heads Clifton's cross anywhere else but straight at the keeper from 6 yards out and we go on to win that at a canter. Instead they go straight up the other end and score an identical chance to make it 2-2 and we spend the rest of the match floundering around creating very little other than one long distance effort from Eisa tipped round the post. Incredibly frustrating how mentally weak and flimsy this town side is. Maher can't get back to full fitness soon enough cos this Rodgers and Waterfall duo is hopeless.

Disappointing to lose a lead again, but another unbeaten game and 4 points in a week.

We have improved up front from last season and the forwards are doing the business, but we now find ourselves too porous at the back.

Maher is a miss when he's out. We looked much better at the back with Maher and Amos in the back four.

Think that some town fans would back Mike Newell the way they speak like Hurst is the f×cking messiah. He's had a great chance of a budget this year and not used it wisely. As othered have mentioned we look so weak in the belly when we go ahead which is classic Hurst of settling for a 2-1 lead rather than going for 3 or 4. I'm not calling for him to be sacked whatsoever as he is a 'steady' pair of hands but won't be the manager to get us promoted out of this division.

Are you allright?

He kept 2 up top today and went for it. Pyke missed a glorious chance and it wasnt until we went back to a 1 up top that we got control of the game again.

What is confounding is that Hurst has built some excellent defences in the past. This year they're just hopeless.

Jesus, over a dozen games into the season and he goes with 2 up front, may aswell call him the new Arrigo Sacchi. Football is a result business, not a game of if, buts or maybes. It's going to be another season of floating around mid-table, I'm aware alot of fans are very happy with that and content thinking that they owe Hurst something (and I don't know why). Won't get relegated under Hurst, but nor will we get promoted out of this division.

Frustrating not to win. We were cruising to a 2-1 win, Pyke has a chance to wrap it up from 6 yards but heads straight at the keeper. Then they go up the other end and score. Eisa had a shot deflected just wide. Granted we should have won but the reaction from a minority at the end was ridiculous.

Thank goodness that we have your superior nasal power to sniff out these helpful expert insights Denni.

Otherwise we would be thinking that a win last week and an away draw today were great. And that promotion and the Cup run were fantastic, and that it's OK to enjoy watching Town.

I can be Hursts and the teams harshest critic, but I left that game dumbfounded with some of the boos at the end of the match. I thought it was an entertaining game with a much better performance than Tuesday.  There wasn’t a great deal to separate the two teams and a draw was a fair result. I guess some people will be on Hursts and the teams back whatever!

Another game we should have won but 4 points in a week is always a good thing.  I agree with the comment above, there’s a decent portion of the fan base who will never be fully behind Hurst, I will never be able to fathom it but everybody’s allowed an opinion.  Scrolling through Twitter in the second half today,  half of the tweets lambasting PH for not making changes, others having a go because he had - you can’t win.

I personally think we look much better with 3 in midfield,  on current form it would be Conteh, Holohan and Andrews. IMO that shape brings the best out of Conteh and Eisa who can be our difference makers.  I don’t buy into the argument that we’re too defensive in that shape, I actually think we create more.

Thought we played well today and created some good chances. They've scored 2 goals from very little.

Have to say although I think Pyke should have definitely scored a 2nd he appears to not be excrement.

Impressed with Andrews a bit deeper but get him off the free kicks and corners. Woeful.

It was certainly a better performance than Tuesday. The team seem to have some confidence back and as mentioned above we have turned a corner.

I hope the distraction of playing Bradford in that cup match on Tuesday does not distract the team from this increase in performance. Tuesday is a pointless game as we are already out of this Mickey Mouse competition, but have to fulfil a fixture, and bring on the youth team.

Guess the manager is a genius then when Eisa scores worldies to win us games. You can spin the coin on both heads, we will be nothing other than a mid-table team under Hurst which alot of people seem happy with.

Me myself I'm not and feel like we can actually capitalise on what we have at the minute, Notts County are taking the p!ss scoring at a canter every week in the division according to some peoples 'settling time'. Not calling for the managers head at all just saying that we are standing still while Hurst is at the helm, a very steady Eddie but not the man to propel and push a football club to where they need to be.

Well if we are counting on winning against teams below us  the chances are going to be slim.. Only 6 teams below us now

I was  behind some of them that booed the team at the end. There mostly just kids and judging by there ongoing commentary throughout the game they havent got much going on upstairs. Ignore them

Y3s he will.

I don’t see us as anything better than mid table at best. There’s too many positions where our second option isn’t good enough. That’s down to the manager and the recruitment. I firmly believe that there comes a time when a manager reaches his ceiling and I think we’re nearing that stage. That’s not a judgement on this week’s results but we don’t seem to win when we play decent and we still don’t seem to be able to settle on a plan.

We lost Wilson early and Hurst stuck with 2 strikers. Pyke scored. Aggressive.

Those that pushed for us to go two strikers, Hurst did when he had Wilson and Rose fit. They'll bash him for something he cannot control as if other managers can make Wilson play on 1 leg and score.

Fans said we got more of a foot in with 5 in mid today eventually. Despite many bashing him for favouring 5 usually. Hurst cannot win with some. There is no winning. They just don't like Hurst. They want to Chelsea or Watford this and spend money on manager compensation, rather than player budget. Ironically, they say fans that want to stick are lacking in ambition.

Hopefully Wilson is OK, and we have a bit of depth in midfield and attack going forward for a less horrific run of games. 4 points in 2 games. I'll take that.

I don't think it's as straightforward as you suggest. I get that there are some that have no basis to some of their criticisms, but for most objective people who are willing to criticise PH for certain things, they perhaps want to see him doing the right things at the right time.

You seem like the most pro-PH poster this forum has ever seen, but in my opinion the ridiculing of those who do offer some criticisms of the management team is a bit unnecessary and can be just as harmful (in terms of not being objective/balanced) as those who do just blindly criticise.

I'm not a "Hurst-out" type, nor do I think the sun shines out of his bottom, but some posters raise valid points of critique and in wanting more.

You suggest this as if it says something about me. It says more about The Fishy. Some great people here, but it is a wee bit reactionary. We go from the worst team in the world, to the best based on any one performance. I used to lurk here during the conference season, and during that run, I cannot remember anyone here wanting to keep with Hurst. I steered clear. I remembered how he'd got something out of the abysmal squad from the season before, and got some good players who could play. Form wasn't great, but every team goes through bad runs. At that time, I thought it was insane people wanted rid of a manager who had got us out of the conference, turned the team around from the year before and made us competitively and had previously kept Shrewsbury in the play-offs. IMO, he had all the attributes of a manager that can bring success. He can find good players, turn faltering players around, get a team competing. Get them defending better. He can bring improve younger players etc. My view on him hasn't changed, and I think he's probably a victim of his own early success (getting us straight back up, and having a great start last year in league 2). I don't forget the absolute shite we've had as we've plummeted down the leagues and eventually fell out of it. I don't forget the absolute dross we've had management wise, consistently for 2 decades. When I see we've probably had our best manager in 2 decades, and fans are trying to push it out the door, it's insane. Unless you're rich, the best way to succeed, is to pick a manager who has good attributes, support them and give them time to fix the issues within the team. The team has been an improvement year on year, and that is the only way we're getting out of league 2. Unless there is some Hollywood actors who want to invest in Lincolnshire's finest.

Does Hurst always get it right? No. Can he see the issues, and communicate that? Yes. Does he work on it and try to address it? Yes. When players aren't performing, he will talk to them, and often take them out of it so they can work on it, while a squad member gets a shot. I'm pretty confident we are going to get some form together coming up, and Wilson's fitness will play a part in it, but even then, Pyke is starting to find a bit of confidence now. That finish was a belter. (I'll get a few downvotes for saying something positive about Pyke. I previously said he could come good, but would need time, and I'm hoping today is the start of that.)

I'm not ridiculing those with valid criticisms. I picking up on those that only have criticisms. Game after game, only looking for reasons to be negative. That isn't supporting a team. If they want perfection, Man City is on the TV.

Don’t worry. A few more posts of eulogistic optimism from your keyboard and we will be convinced that Paul Hurst is the second coming of the Messiah!

Back in the real world, it’s not quite as easy as ‘seeing some good form coming up’. We’re a mid table team with a mid table setup, largely inconsistent playing pretty dull and uninspiring football.

In reality, that’s where we are. Not bad but not good enough.

The problem is Ancient you are over enthusiastic with Hirst (yes his paintings are good ) .

But Hurst as a manager is not great , but a good manager lower down .

I like him as a manager , but feel to move forward substantially in the next few years we need a change , yes he will keep us in league 2 and we might touch 7th once if he gets the team performing at some point .

It's not reactionary , just an outlook based on a 10 year spell - I just think Hurst's tenure has run it's course - I have stated many times I think he's a good , solid lower league manager who has done well at Town in the main . Pettit & Stockwood have not even made an appointment yet , but I think some's unwillingness for change is down to our former leaders long list of disastrous appointments barring Hurst .

This over confidence that you have in him , for me is wearing thin - yes I know he raised a million quid which meant Pettit & Stockwood didn't need to prop up as much of a shortfall.

But we need to beating Tranmere away , they are awful .

I wouldn't underestimate the effect of Madkins doing something to improve them. He talks a lot, but has a good record.

Christ mate I have watched a  team that was 'punching above it's weight ' for 5 years even in the back end of the 90's and early 2000's  then gradually declined into the oblivion of division 4 & 5 .With you seemingly telling us to keep 'us shape'

I'm not a  'doom monger' at all , my opinion has just changed somewhat after 10 years of seeing the same thing , I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for back to back wins against 2nd bottom after tucking up a decent team the game before , which we were lucky to win , very lucky . .

It's a forum ,we are all entitled to our opinion - mine is we are still not going anywhere fast and will have a mish mash season and finish anywhere from 10th to 16th - I would be very suprised if i'm wrong on that front .

For frigs sake, it's a football forum. no different than any other teams forum. There are a number on the Tranmere forum today slagging off some players and the manager and saying they played crap.

Yesterday we looked far better than them though I thought , that's the issue for me  - we look far better than a lot of teams but seem to draw or lose when we do .
Who's looked better than us - Mansfield , Notts , Barrow and Wrexham ; all the rest we could or should have won really .

I liked that we went back to Hurst's tried and trusted formation yesterday , maybe we can have a run with that now ?
