I think it is more to do with the state of the country than left or right. If this forum was active when we decided to invade Iraq the opinions would reflect the anger at that decision. The truth is Johnson has embarrassed us as a country and himself as a person( if he even has the concept of embarrassment), he is unfit to govern and even the Tories have finally had enough of his lies and self serving deceptions.
Most of the country are angry at the way him Sunak at all have behaved, I have friends from all sides of the political divide, none of them want to defend Johnson, "well we knew he was a bit of a lad" is the best they can come up with as if it makes his behaviour ok. Even the person who said this knew promoting a known sex pest as then lying about it was the last straw.
The truth is Johnson was a fraud who hoodwinked many and like a lot of victims of fraud they do not want to see it.  It reminds me of how Holloway was defended right to the end by many on this site even after his involvement in dodgy developments was becoming clear.
Johnson is trying to block the inquiry into covid which he is claiming was a major success despite 200,000 deaths , 37 billion wasted on test and trace with no effect at all and worse of all releasing patients into care homes without being tested which cost my grandmother her life. Why would he block anything if it was a success? Why would he not want any mistakes out there to learn from? Twelve years of Tory austerity have seen was a corroded and living standards worsen,  who do we blame it not those in charge and responsible? The opposition as Humbercod likes to?
As a Christian you should ask yourself what would Jesus say to this shower of greedy,  self serving, immoral, adulterers and liars?

I was listening to Radio 4 yesterday  codcheeky and they were covering Boris Johnstone's university years. Admittedly some people that went to university with him at Oxford did say Boris was a bit of a bluffer with what he said but at the same time others painted him in a good light especially his ability to get along with people from diverse backgrounds.

Yes, I did hear that Alexander helped one poor guy who was schooled at Harrow to integrate into the Bullingdon Club. Diversity in action.

I only caught around 20 minutes of this programme but it was interesting to listen to . I think that's the case for all in politics .If you dig deep you can bring flaws up with anyone. Ultimately we have all made mistakes in our younger years.

I didn't realise that was the case with Boris in trying to block the enquiry with Covid . He should own up and try to be honest with his failings . It takes a big man to do that and someone who I would respect more. Iam genuinely sorry to hear about your grandmother though .RIP.

Having said that as a labour supporter(Iam neither left or right politically) surely you must see that left wing politics hasn't got all the answers either and there must be failings on the left side . Just recently for example what came up on my twitter was someone who was trying to prevent knife crime in his neighbourhood blamed successive Labour and Tory governments for not investing in his neighbourhood despite promises from especially Tony Blair who visited the area and despite some initial improvements forget about his area.

I think your right though on Jesus . He would want someone in power who puts fairness, moral character and serving  equality for all as benchmarks of a good leader. In some ways the left side probably do side with this more but as in anything in life there is always room for improvement.

Them university years eh when we all joined the  Bullingdon club and burnt £50 notes in front of down and outs for a bit of a laugh? The BBC is as complicit in what Johnson has done as any, the governors are appointed by the Government
I am not a Labour supporter Rick I am with the Greens, although I have voted for them and thought we had a chance of a different route when Corbyn was in charge. he had a proper green agenda. There was no way that even his own Parliamentary Party would let him get into power,  the establishment have a vested interest in maintaining the political status quo. Labour paid the price of not listening to its natural voters, whether they learn which I doubt is another matter. I believe in democratic socialism with a mixed market, that some industries are much too important to be left to private corporations whose main objective is profit for their shareholders and that we need to look after those who are in need.   How can it be ok for water companies to pump raw sewage into our seas and rivers because they have taken profits instead of investing? How can it be ok for both  the Grimsby and Cleethorpes MPs to vote in Parliament to allow this? How can that benefit their constituents? Why would they vote for it when little kids are paddling and swimming in the sea in their area? Surely this is criminally negligent?
How we keep claiming to have the fifth or sixth biggest economy in the world yet more and more relying on foodbanks, and more and more struggling to pay their bills? How will our children and grandchildren ever get on the property ladder?
We have 12 years of the same government, the national debt is now three times what it was when they came to power saying the last government spent too much, what has got better?
It's 10 years since the 2012 Olympics have a look at the opening ceremony again and see how proud the country was , how patriotic and how hopeful for the future, young people now are disengaging from a society that has left them behind and that is very dangerous.

Edit on Jesus after reading more on the subject ( Iam no biblical scholar )is he probably didn't identity with neither party but had aspects of both eg  "Jesus wouldn’t affiliate with a political party because he wasn’t fully liberal or conservative.  He was socially conservative yet economically liberal".

I've only taken some of your message in segment for the sake of others eg not making it to long. Some good points there to be fair and I like the passion you have for politics. Having said that like in anything taking to the other end of the spectrum eg a leftists extremist agenda you get anarchy and a large breakdown of social order.

He probably lived in a completely different time with different problems completely. His stories are just a moral code whether you believe him or not,  I did not ask which party he would vote for only what you think he would have made of this self serving shower in power. I think a quick link to an American website as to whether he would vote for a Party to the right of the  Tories or a Party far to the right of the Tories is little help and little to do with what anyone with any morals would make of Johnson

Yes have to agree. Jesus would of found a lot of failings with Boris Johnson. Saying that he would of found failings with others as well on the left side of politics as well eg Keir Starmer   albeit less than Boris . Again it's hypothetical as Jesus died a long time ago . I just wish Theresa May would of been a bit stronger as I liked her. Character wise on the surface  seemed good and was very polished.

As noted whoever gets in power will always get their critics left or right politically. Tough job indeed .

Did you agree with policy of creating a “Hostile Environment”  and Mrs. May enforcing it??

Don’t want to be dismissive chaps, but that is as good as fiction.

Not overly into politics but wish she could of dealt with things more at the base level. Since human evolution as you know greed and corruption have been part of the human story. More we try to eliminate this the better our world will be .

Your missing the deeper picture. Again at the time of Jesus's time very little was written on people and even less on a remote Jewish radical which is who Jesus was. There is always going to be doubters to the Jesus story which I see from a historical perspective as a man who tried to do good.

As in life there will always be a small amount of doubters to Jesus.

Funnily enough I was having this debate with Americans of all sides politically. A few said something which at the time made me smile but on deeper reflection have a point eg if Jesus was alive today he would of been killed.

A lot wrong with our world today but we shouldn't loose hope.

What would Jesus have done?

May as well ask what Popeye would have done.

I thought this was a political debate and here we are shoehorning religion in yet again.
