I doubt heā€™ll have been sacked after yet another game where we were the best team and should have won

If only the opposition would stop scoring goals that win the games we might be up there with a shout for the top spot šŸ˜‰

Looks to be keeping to the same standards as previous press releases, we'll soon see Monday. Has Matt Dean's boardroom spy said anything to him yet.

Other rumours Iā€™ve heard today:

Nathan Arnold is signing.
Nathan Arnold isnā€™t signing.
Slade and Wilkinson donā€™t get on at all and have a difficult working relationship.
Slade is lodging at Fentyā€™s house.

I'm sure Ollie can speak for himself but I think his post has been read wrongly.

I read it as him saying the Lampard is looking for a Manager's job, and that the appointment of a high-profile ex-player might not be a bad thing - as can be seen by Crawley doing ok under Harry Kewell.

I originally subscribed to the idea that sacking Slade would achieve nothing. The guy might be a deeply unpopular but I thought he had enough about him to bring a bit of stability.

But I'm changing my mind very quickly. I really do think we could get relegated with this clown in charge.

He's afforded more time given his matey relationship with Fenty, but if he was anyone else he'd have been sacked by now.

The problem, however, will always be - who would be our next manager? Who trusts Fenty to get it right, given his track record?

What an absolute mess we are in.

The next two games will decide.
Win both and our concerns should go away re relegation
Lose both and a sacking must follow

Probably a sneaked 0-0 draw at Yeovil would be deemed a good result by the club, but a home defeat to that hateful bunch from Cheltenham would see an angry reaction from supporters, even if we did deserve to win but lost 3-0.
The writing is on the wall, and it has been for some time.

Wasn't Newell sacked on a Sunday?

Slade's team reminds me so much of that side. A massively bloated squad of nothingness, masquerading as a football team.

I think with Newells team there were talented nontryers eg Sweeney and people who although were effective on their day eg Barry Conlon let himself down with his drinking habits.Put that in the mix and you are bound to struggle.

Think the timing would be bizarre given transfer window ends on Wednesday and if Nathan Arnold rumours are true why let RS bring in two players with the sack as a sandwich.

Alternatively Nathan may be a J.F. signing which RS truly knows nothing about.  Personally expect him to get the next two games and anything less than four points may see the trap door open

Why would they say announcement tomorrow, either RS doesn't know he getting sacked or the announcement is something that else, Arnold maybe. I think now is the right time for RS to go but we need to wait for official announcement before speculating.

As Wilkinson does not have much clout on who or how we play because Slade knows best,

I would take Wilko in charge until the end of the season,

He can't do any worse can he ?

Clever move by Fenty as he signs Arnold behind Slade's back who then spits his dummy out and resigns. All of a sudden fans are happy, hero back, Slade gone and Fenty smells of roses. Wilko and Mooro in charge until the end of the season

He could roll around the rose beds of Kew Gardens and cover himself with rose water and he still wouldn't come up smelling of roses.

Serious question.  Like most people on this forum I go through a performance appraisal process.  If I didnā€™t perform Iā€™d be given a performance improvement plan, if I still didnā€™t perform Iā€™d be managed out and, if the process was followed correctly would have no hope of undeserved compensation.  Is Slade immune to this and if so, given his history of failure, why?

When JT asked RS if Nathan Arnold is signing his reply was "not that I know of" so if he signs he was either lying or indeed he was signed behind RS's back. Watch this space.

Fenty has just not signed Nathan behind Slades back he has persuaded The Cowleys to come with other Lincoln players as well.

Not that they would spill the beans there is a strict confidentiality code within the boardroom so even if our representative spoke to the powers that be in the trust, the trust could not speak of it

i have an inkling that given all the fuss when RS signed about him having a clear goal for this season..ie promotion contenders/ play offs then i think the board may have some small print in the contract that will give them a "cheap" get out of Slade option....given the club probably cant afford to just "sack" him now ......then i think they will gamble on sticking now and hoping to avoid relegation this season with Slade.... and ride out the bumpy road to the end of the season and if he hasnt achieved his goal then get rid.

The trust rep needs to present the trust in a professional manner to maintain its presence, which means it has to maintain discretion... but it also needs to represent its members wishes...which is something i dont think they actually have an effective handle on....without having a clear mandate from its members then what views can the trust rep present ?

We may think the trust rep, as a board member, should call for a vote of no confidence in RS BUT is that what a majority of trust members actually want ? By the time the trust can organise a vote/ gather opinion Slade may have won 5 on the bounce....or may have already been sacked....the trust need to figure out how to tap into the pulse of its members so it can be fully reflective, adaptive and reactive throughout a season.

The Trust is in effect a representative democracy. We elect board members, just as we elect MPs, to make decisions on our behalf. We delegate responsibility to them when we elect them, so there's no need to consult on every issue. Just as you have options if you don't like what your MP has done you have options regarding Trust board membership.

The big difference is that not many people want to put themselves forward for the Trust board so there is little in the way of a contested election.

There's no point in having a pop at the Trust. The problem lies with the other board members.

I was in the Crommie this afternoon and the word was that it was nailed on that Slade had been sacked and Phil Brown was taking his place . I was over the moon but unfortunately it was a false dawn because there is no confirmation on The Fishy or anywhere else. Talk about a right let-down. The thought that Nearly Man is still in charge is really depressing me and questioning whether I will still be going to BP after the end of this season.

The trust

We may think the trust rep, as a board member, should call for a vote of no confidence in RS BUT is that what a majority of trust members actually want ? By the time the trust can organise a vote/ gather opinion Slade may have won 5.

So you only go to BP if you like the manager? Its a wonder you have been to any games.

I am getting a bit cheesed off coming on to the Grimsby Town supporters site, for so many people saying they don't know whether they can go to the games because of the current manager, the board, the stadium, the parking, the facilities, the PR, the players, or anything other excuse they can find.

I detest the non chairman but if he ends up being in the hot seat for the next 30 years that will not stop me going to support my team, a team that means so much to us all. Things change all the time, but surely the one thing that unites us is the support for the actual team??

So youā€™d replace our current manager who was a recently sacked League One manager when we appointed him with a recently sacked League One manager?

If we sacked Slade we should find someone willing to be caretaker until the end of the season whilst employing a manager recruitment consultant to find us a manager who would fit into a plan for where we want to find ourselves in five years time. We canā€™t just keep treading water with managers and we need to plan ahead because otherwise you end up signing journeymen to play for merry-go-round managers.

Letā€™s be honest I have been going for 55 years and how many successful managers have we had? I can remember being underwhelmed when Newman got the job, but he built on foundations Casey had started and Kerr took it from there, but would Kerr have got the job if he had not been with the club? Same with Booth after him and going back to Kerr not sure he had any success elsewhere unless taking Lincoln into the conference back in the 80ā€™s counts.

McMenemy had been sacked by Doncaster and basically inherited the side Kennedy built and had finished previous season pretty well.

What point I am trying to make is selecting a good Manager is bloody hard and affects not only town and how many of us would have thought Hurst would do so well with a number of ex-town players none of which were universally mourned when they left.

I am sure our next appointment will be the same, loads ecstatic half never going again if said person is going to be in charge, already happening with debate over Dis and Phil Brown. Managers like players fit certain clubs, would we have wanted the god following Luton Manager when he was a coach at Brighton or Clarke who was on the staff at BR?

RS was not a wise choice after his previous stay but J.F. appeared to panic after six months of Marcus madness.

I dont particularly want RS to stay but Bristol City had a worse run last year and that seems to have worked out. Damned if you do and damned if you donā€™t but pretty sure the next two games will determine RSā€™s fate.

Just a point on the ā€œsackingā€, I want the twit gone as much as anyone, but if you had been sacked, would you want it leaked to all and sundry before youā€™d had chance to manage your exit properly?
It needs to be done properly and professionally, I know this might be a radical departure for some at GTFC, but you know, letā€™s start somewhere.

Has he got phil brown on speed dial!

I flipping hope not.

I said in December the most Grimsby town thing to happen will be to wait until the end of Jan to get rid of the potato so that any new manager coming in wonā€™t be able to add any players to the squad. It looks like thatā€™s now the case. Iā€™m all for Slade going but Jesus wept. He should have gone after the Morecambe game at home.

The whole club is a catalogue of errors. One after another after another.

Ring them? Carrier pigeon? Go and knock on their door?

A criticism I would have of the Trust is that the board members are effectively whoever wants to be one. If the board (which imo has too many people sitting on it*) was elected by the membership then the wider fan base might be more accepting of them using their judgment to make decisions at club and Trust board level. In exceptional circumstances the Trust could decide to take wider polls of the membership.

*We are told every year that there are spaces available on the Trust board. A board should be concise I think. For a hardcore supporter base of 4500 (even less as the Trust itself) why are we needing more than 5-7 people? Why not have a smaller board with those boards heading seperate, smaller committees who focus on the different areas the trust focuses on?

Thing is not every trust member has Whatsapp..or a mobile...or an e -mail.....if as was indicated in an earlier reply, full consultation is not required anyway as the members of the trust board are elected and therefore seen to be a democratic representation of its members then ....
as the Board of Directors recently gave unequivocal support to RS then the Trust rep must have supported it.

If the trust board feel they are no longer happy then surely, on behalf of its members, it should request a board meeting for another review of the positon ?

Russell Slade - prior to joining GTFC he had been sacked from 3 clubs in the space of 9 months and has never had a team promoted.

Phil Brown - promotions with Hull to the Premiership and Southend to consecutive play-offs and eventual promotion to the 1st Division where he had been for almost 5 years.

Who's credentials would you trust ?

LH: there are no elections to the Trust board because there aren't a lot of volunteers willing to stand. if more people came forward then there'd be more competition and therefore contested elections. But there seems to be either apathy or contentment about the way things are going. Or is there a lack of self-confidence?

Friskney, the Trust derives its mandate from its membership. What vote are you talking about?

I have been supporting town since the mid sixties and seen so many successes and failures at BP - that is par for the course in following your hometowns team. I never wanted to see Slade back here as a manager for GTFC but that is a situation I had to accept, like many previous managers who's appointments I wasn't particularly thrilled with.. However, now I am a pensioner on a fixed income, I find it hard to  pay for my ST , even though I get the discount for being a pensioner. The football has been dire under Slade , certainly worse than I thought it would be. The thought of paying out more money in the summer to watch another season of this dross certainly fills me with dread and is the reason why I questioned my intentions to buy another ST.

Wow asking quite legitimate question in terms of how the trust derives it's mandate is now regarded as negative, not once in any of my post have I made a negative comment about the Trust,I am only attempting to ascertain the Governance of the Trust.
Think you are being overly sensitive and hyper- vigilant mmm who else do we know whose's like that.

I have to say that Iā€™m totally gutted and I was hoping that today was his last with us!!! Now I can see him going to Yeovil and getting something and then suggesting that we have ā€˜turned a cornerā€™ bull poop!!

I think today was the day he should have left but it would appear that the board are extremely hesitant to protect their 5k investment and donā€™t want to pay him off.

My question to the board is that Do they actually give a sh1te about what the Town/Fans/Community (and possibly players) want?

Youā€™ll pay because youā€™ll be lucky to get 1000 ST next year!!

The vote supporting Slade.

The statement used the word unequivocal which is not the same as unanimous. So someone may have not voted in favour of Slade. We won't know if and who because they don't publish the way board members vote.

Whichever way Jon Wood voted he had the mandate to make that decision as the duly appointed Trust board member.

So there's a lot of 'IFs' in this:

If there was a vote and;
If JW voted in favour of Slade and;
If that was the wrong decision (and there isn't unanimity about whether it would be wise to sack the manager at this point of the season - it being either too late or too soon, or too disruptive, or there being slim prospects of recruiting a better manager now, and that it's always a risk, and whether there's confidence in the right manager being appointed given the track record of you know who)

That's a tough decision and I'm happy for Jon Wood to take it. If he did

This thread has split into two. Please address any questions about the Trust's involvement in the decision not to sack RS here:

LH: there are no elections to the Trust board because there aren't a lot of volunteers willing to stand. if more people came forward then there'd be more competition and therefore contested elections. But there seems to be either apathy or contentment about the way things are going. Or is there a lack of self-confidence?

I accept that although I know myself and others have offered help in the past and havenā€™t heard anything for a while.

As weā€™re seeing on a different thread now though a Trust board member who has been nominated for the club board position by his colleagues (if I remember correctly) is coming under fire for making/not making a decision at club board level. Surely this is a prime example of why the Trust board should be elected? So that the fans opinion can be truly measured. I can see why some on social media get a bit arsey about it but I also accept that there might be apathy in taking part in votes.

Itā€™s not something for immediate change but maybe something to look at in the future. Iā€™d also like to see straw polls taken for things like manager approval and club decisions so that the trust can feed back stats to back up statements on behalf of the fans to the club.

You me and a couple of thousand others.
If Slade is in charge next season Town will struggle to sell a thousand ST's

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

If you wish to join the board message me and I'll invite you to our next meeting.

You can't elect board members if there are more places than people willing to stand for them! It is standard practice on the Trust that board members are elected. It's just that for the five or so years I've been involved there's never been a process where there are more candidates than places.

I thought the number of places on the Trust board was increased in order to avoid a vote????

Not quite. After operation promotion we figured increasing the numbers would enable us to do more, increase the skill base and allow us to build on what we achieved with OP. Iā€™m not sure if any of those who joined the board at that time are still with us!

Really Bax? I'm a founder member and have cannot remember the last time I got an email

Ps those still reading this thread might like to reflect that the trust board only reflects what goes on in every parish council. My villages council has only just got enough members and if anyone resigns then whoever volunteers gets the job. Doesn't make them less worthy of representative - they are there to be 'shot at' every month!

Well I joined, paid my subs and although I've e mailed two or three times I haven't heard anything since, so don't have any details of my membership! That's a bit poor.

Can you advise please?

Our Membership Ended Sep 17 and Syd Junior and I would rejoin..
Although didnā€™t get any / many communications whilst we were members
Though TBH I canā€™t say what I would have wanted to receive communications about?
Some communication about first team manager selection in hindsight would have been very beneficial šŸ˜šŸ˜

I get something pretty much every month from the Trust so you might need to check your junk email folder.
