I am home in Shropshire and mightily miffed we allowed them to come at us after our goal and threw away a win.
We huffed and puffed but did not play well apart from 15 minutes when Brown and Clay came on: we scored during that period, but then sat back and invited them onto us. We nearly lost the bloody game too: freekick in a very dangerous position right at the death.
No one saw the goal coming: great strike, but we did not really boss the game or control the match. No one had a bad game, but no one can hold their heads up either.
Left the ground like we'd lost, and am still upset, even half way down my first pint!

For me apart from the goal we completely lacked any real quality.
Playing LJL as the lone striker wasn't working, we just weren't holding it up at all.
I thought they hardly created a thing but for their effort deserved a goal.

It sounds like we played like we did at Dartford and Braintree,

The first half was dire, 2 fans nipped off to the pub of which i wasn't surprised. Arnolds goal was out of place with the game, cracking strike. We invited pressure, personally thought macca could have collected the ball prior to the corner but 16/18, we go again with back to back home games.

Forgot the mention the idiots with the smoke canisters: stopped our most promising attack in the first half by throwing one onto the pitch just when we were overrunning them and had players available both left and right: ref stopped the match. Tossers!

Tossers of the highest order indeed, I hope they are banned from every game, they're giving us a bad name, quality support again though, must've been near 500 of us, 8 games unbeaten, shame we couldn't make it 6 straight wins but hey ho. UTM!!

Same old Grimsby. We could write a book "how to throw away a game in 10 minutes or less".
The first half was hoof it forward Shop heads it on to no one. Pell and Disley were slow, only seemed to pass it backwards or sideways never seemed to look to go forward. Arnold and Neilson were to wide and needed to come in more and support Shop better. We had three weak shots on target, they never really threatened. That is pretty much the whole first half. Now onto the idiots with smoke bombs. We need to supply plain clothes cops to mingle and find the idiots throwing these into the crowds now, catch them, ban them for life. Like said above, what was looking like our most promising attack in the first half was pulled back because of these male private heads throwing smoke bombs onto the pitch. It was great to see the real fans turning on these scrotes after they forced a good attack to be blown dead as the idiots threw the smoke bombs on the pitch at their keeper. It was also nice to see their keeper being a good sport about it especially the second time.
Second half we were poor in midfield again till Clay and Brown came as we continued to hoof the ball to Shop who headed it on to no one. We created nothing, however they had started to threaten. Then Clay and Brown appear and by magic we are passing the ball on the deck, we look quicker, an actual threat and forward passes were being made to feet (No I kid you not to feet). We started looking like we were going to break them down at last and had a number of close calls, then a wonder strike from Arnold and we take the lead. But as per usual instead of increasing the pressure on them which we had being doing up to the goal, instead of pressing them on the edge of the box like we had been doing so well, instead of looking for a 2nd and 3rd goal we retreat to within 5 yards of our own box and desperately try to repel the constant pressure we have brought on ourselves only to try and hoof it away to the shop who has few options. Low and behold we concede a cheap goal as a result I could see it coming for ages l.

Got just about what we deserved. Can only echo the point re:- letting them back into a game they should have been well and truly out of.
We had a spell after we'd scored where every time we kicked the ball it went to a red and white shirt. Their goal came from Parsley's third consecutive rushed pass straight to the opposition.
Positives...Arnold's goal. A real contender for goal of the season. Pearson's third game on the bounce where he was supreme at the back. The return of Brown.
Neilson was his usual hot and cold
Disappointed with Pell.

He was sprinting along the right wing, cut inside a little and from about 10/15 metres from the corner of the penalty area he decided to hit it: their keeper nor us were ready for it, and it flew like a rocket and dipped just before hitting the back of the net: he hit it superbly and considering what he had done before during the game it is no wonder their keeper and us TOWN fans were not expecting a shot like that!

Probably 20-ish yards out from wide therefore narrowish angle rifled across the keeper and into the corner. Super finish.. I promise you me and MDT were at the same game. He must have excellent doggy eyesight.

It was a good goal but wish it had been scored later because once we'd scored the energy and dynamism the team suddenly had from bringing on brown and clay disappeared instantly and we were begging them to equalise. I'd have maybe started with that midfield rather than the one we did, and I think hurst should have brought Pittman on instead of makreth to give more physical prescence up front since Ljl was being bearhugged out the game but otherwise I think that was down to the players and hopefully they learn from it. All title challenges have hiccups like this so not too fussed was just a frustrating match to watch because we were clearly a much better team than them

OK Les: just about happy with those totals, although I am not convinced there were over 1,000 in the home areas: again difficult to tell unless you know how many the areas actually hold total wise.

The worst part about their goal was it was pure fluke (thats why defending a 1 goal lead is always risky) ball is crossed defender and striker miss the header at the near post, ball drops and hits player not expecting it to come through on the top of the side of his thigh and trickles into the far corner with the keeper wrong footed.

Yes, I agree, but it had been coming: we were defending too deep and just kept giving the ball away when we could have slowed everything down, or even (God forbid) gone for a second goal! Instead the team seemed rudderless and did not know what the plan was or how to play to whatever plan there was.

We played too narrow at the end as our full backs seemed tucked in which meant Alty were able to get down the flanks to crossing positions neither full back knew wether to stick or twist and both wingers were always too deep chasing there wingers meaning when we did get possession there was only ever LJL to hoof it to. Thought Pell was really poor today, for a big lad he doesn't win enough headers and is too easily pushed off the ball. All 3 of our starting midfielders dawdled with the ball and were taking far too many touches in the first half and invariably were closed down and lost possesion. First 2 pieces of quick one touch passing (in a mainly forward direction) led to an offside goal and then a superb save from their keeper. We should kill teams like these once we have a lead and they start to push up and attack but we just drop further and further back and hope.

What did Toto do wrong? We backed ourselves to keep a clean sheet and got it wrong.
We held on at Torquay, Wrexham and at home to Halifax it was bound to happen eventually.
I thought Magnay was poorer and not as solid or tidy as he usually is. Parslow was good just performed a couple of half hearted clearances and Aza is Aza liable to cause a calamity and then take months to recover remember his red card against Lincoln. He was not the same that season afterwards.
I think we need to try Pittman again. Either up front with Arnold in behind the pair of them in a diamond or put wide with Neilson or Arnold left sided. It would mean Lenny would be less isolated.

The result and the above comments are totally at odds with the "match predictions" thread. Of the 22 posts, all the ones forecasting a score had Town down as an away win.
Does anyone think that collectively, the team and supporters were a tad complacent? Expecting an easy away victory here.

The result and the above comments are totally at odds with the "match predictions" thread. Of the 22 posts, all the ones forecasting a score had Town down as an away win.
Does anyone think that collectively, the team and supporters were a tad complacent? Expecting an easy away victory here.
They were in sh1t form, we are top of the form, by the sounds of it we played awful first half and they still didnt threaten, they have Kyle Perry....KYLE PERRY...(tub of lard)..playing as their main striker...we are second in the league they were 16 places below us, their is a 37 goal difference between us...... i dont think complacency is the word... but we should expect to be turning these teams over if we have serious title/ promotion ambitions.

2 points thrown away even though we didn't play well, but I suppose at least we didn't lose another one at the end - thought it was a good tactical foul and lucky not to see red. Clay's unfortunate to lose his place to Pell, who was poor. Great goal by Arnold/poor Parslow clearance and failing to stop the cross etc etc.
Excellent day for Barnet.
6 points from 2 home games next please.

Feels like a defeat even when an away point is never a bad point. However that was just the kind of few minutes that could come to some up the season .To win a game in which you have not really shown anything like true abilities is probably what differentiates the teams that achieve their targets from the also -rans.Excellent strike.Great turn out from the supporters shame about the idiots.Lets get back to winning ways against Kidderminster.

Let's not lose sight of the bigger picture here. Before yesterday, we had won our previous five league games. We're still unbeaten in eight and have only lost once in the last 12. Apart from Barnet, none of the team around us made any ground on us yesterday and we're still a point closer to Barnet than we were this time last week. We're in a good position and yesterday, as frustrating as it is, does not alter that.

Can't really add much to what anyone has put. Only my second away game this season but still no us seen us win on the road (Lincoln). Heard we look better away so might have another go at Telford.

I feel for the fans that went and i'm sure and understand they feel like it was a lose. But let's stay positive, we're 2nd and will stay 2nd after games in hand unless Woking win both theres. We're unbeaten in 8? and top of the form table with 2 home games coming up. Woking play Barnet next game so there is a chance for us to either pull further into the play offs or closer to automatic spot. We need to realise in reality there are 7-8 teams who felt at the beginning of the season they could hit that top spot. So to be 2nd after 17 games is a handy position for us.

After the Altrincham home game if I'd have offered you 5 straight wins but you'd have to draw at Altrincham away on a plate, who would've snapped my arm off?

Good way of looking at it and put's it in perspective, saying that, the only way back into the league is not dropping points when they should be in the bag.

700 plus away fans is a phenomenal following in this league. I doubt any club would have issued inflated crowd figures (unless Tesco have a team of course) as it means a greater share of receipts for the taxman. With it now a traditional non league weekend because of the international matches it's quite possible some of the Manchester clubs fans took the opportunity to take a game in?

Unless there was about 500 Altrincham fans in the fire station looking thing in the far left corner from us I can't see where 1100 of them were hidden?
