Quoted Text
Director John Fenty has decided to resign from his role as the Chairman of Grimsby Town Football Club PLC which has been provoked by the Take Over Panel investigation.

On the 17th of September Mr Fenty was questioned by the Take Over Panel, who were interested to know if Mr Parker remained in concert either with the Club or Mr Fenty, at the time when Mr Parker increased his shareholding in the Club, to just short of Fifty Four Percent.

The Take Over Panel are trying to ascertain if an obligation has been triggered under rule 9 of the take over code, where by if it had, Mr Parker could be obligated to make an offer to purchase any issued shares in the Grimsby Town Football Club PLC.

Following Mr Parker leaving the Board of Directors on the 1st of March, he publically pledged continued financial support for the Club and then in a further interview, this pledge of funding was to be in the form of a share purchase, effectively giving him overall control.

Mr Fenty felt it was best that he resigned his current position, while the investigation is conducted. Furthermore he also recognises that Mr Parker is now the controlling shareholder of the Grimsby Town Football Club and felt that his position as Chairman had become untenable, with effective control of the Club, now resting outside of the Board of Directors.

Mr Fenty explained that the Club continues to lose money and whilst he had held a controlling interest in the Club, he felt obliged to ensure the Club remained a going concern by providing the funds himself.

Mr Fenty further explained he had made considerable effort in trying to encourage Mr Parker to rejoin the Board of Directors which had not succeeded.

He went on; there are some very important decisions to be made in the near future. Given Mr Parkers stake in the Club it is only right that he is a party to them. My standing down will give an opportunity for him to seek re-election to the Board if he wishes and also put himself forward for Chairman. Mr Fenty confirmed he would support that.

If this issue is not resolved prior to the AGM on the 24th of November, then shareholders will be asked how they would like the Board to proceed. If the matter is not resolved by this date, Mr Fenty will most likely stand down from being a director joining the ranks with other shareholders at the meeting.

Mr Fenty is most concerned that the company must be able to meet the test of remaining a going concern. Although he added that there is some breathing room to find a solution, as the Club does not have an immediate financial problem.

The Club will not be rudderless and until a Chairman is appointed as the Chief Executive, Ian Fleming will speak on behalf of the Club and Directors. As always the Directors will continue to work in the best interests of Grimsby Town Football Club PLC.

Mr Fenty said he leaves the role of Chairman, with a very heavy heart and would like to pay special thanks to the Board of Directors, staff, sponsors, and fans that have all been terrific during his 7 years tenure as Chairman.

END

I may have fist pumped when I read this. Hopefully Mike Parker can come back and steer the club back towards success.

I won't be jumping around celebrating just yet. JF has been bankrolling this club for years, not many people would be as willing as he was to

Pretty shocked at this to be honest. Feels like it has come out of nowhere. An interesting few weeks ahead I think.

A very good point, things could get rather tricky.

Does Fenty still have loans to the club or is it all now in shares?

If Fenty pulls the funding, and Parker doesn't step up, then we could be in deep, deep trouble. Lots of questions need answering, Mike Parker needs to make a public statement ASAP.

Have to say if it were not for JF this could would be in alot worse a position granted we have had a rough time the guy did what he could with his own hard earned money to try and support this club we all love, lets hope things can get better soon because without a chairman (cash injection) there is only one way the club can go

Let's hope Parker does step up orthat there is someone else waiting in the wings. It's all well and good us saying how  Parker should spend his money but unless he actually wants to step up then what next.

Despite our newfound shitness we should be grateful that Fenty has kept the club out of admin and the tax paid off and for that I thank him for all his investment. As a huge fan he will be disgusted by where we are, but who knows what could have happened without his investment.

All ifs and buts but hopefully the club can consolidate and then progress.

Reading between the lines of the statement if Parker upped his stake to 54% I think you can be certain he wants control and also seems to be going about it the right way doing things behind closed doors

Agreed, but he's been sly about it. When he left the board, he was on Radio Hullberside within half an hour and Look North within 3 hours. Then....nothing.

Honestly, I don't know much about the bloke and that worries me.

Think your bang on with that, its seems Fenty has took this action knowing of interest from Parker and we could see some movement in this ! maybe where wrong but it sounds like someone is lined up ...

This is unbelievable. Definitely out of the blue and definitely a big question mark over where the club goes from here.

I would just like to add that The Fishy is absolutely bustling when something big happens at GTFC and it is something I thoroughly enjoy about being a Town supporter.

I agree... Let's not kid ourselves, MP and JF would have known the implications of what happened when MP got more shares... It just seems to me there has been a lull until JF decided whether to match it or not...

Having spoke to the bloke on lots of occasions, I do not believe he would just drop us in the shite. I think this may be a pre-requisite for MP taking over with his own investers already lined up. JF only ever does what he believes to be in the best interests of GTFC. UTMM

flipping great news this, haven't read the thread yet as to excited but I guess its d day in the next few weeks, scary times but I'm soglad he has gone worth the risk imo, the manhas ruined this club and rightly or wrongly has been called all sorts by me and others but he has put lots of cash into town and i have the utmost respect for him for that. Now all you stay always who would not step foot into bp until john went and now he has so stand up and be counted and come back and support the lads the time has come to to put town back to were it belongs utm

Fenty when asked at the fans forum was totally honest about Parker when he changed his loans into shares Parker would hold a bigger shareholding than him and didnt know whether he was going to buy more shares.

I'm sure plans are afoot. We'll find out in the coming days but let's be patient, these people are businessmen and are used to working quietly and almost secretively to nail down their deals.

Very shocking news, but has the potential to be the best news i've heard in a very long long time!

I just hope and pray to god that Parker returns to the club and keeps the club afloat as well as backing the managers financially where it is needed.!

Maybe he just didn't want to get involved whilst JF was there... There is no suggestion that he won't get involved now though is there...???

I think there a major doubt over him, this has being a bad day for the club... infact if MP has stayed out/away from the club what happens should he take over and not enjoy it or falls out with someone else ??

Mike Parker & Chris Carr ?

Would this be the Carr fella that was in a meeting with Furneaux some years ago but Fenty's price was too high coupled with too many additions thrown in.

The club has paid back the tax debt, Fenty managed it at a controlling 51%.  The extra money he threw in was a direct result of his own incompetence in appointing poor managers and allowing crap players to join the club.  I don't wish JF any harm or malice but he was a crap chairman who didn't know how to run a football club.  The proof is were we are and were others are who have continually not paid their debts.

Mike Parker doesn't seem interested in the club or he doesn't want to be a part of John Fenty. I do hope MP keeps us in because come December we'll be in the deep stuff.

Having spoke to the bloke on lots of occasions, I do not believe he would just drop us in the shite. I think this may be a pre-requisite for MP taking over with his own investers already lined up. JF only ever does what he believes to be in the best interests of GTFC. UTMM

Why would Parker wish to be the clubs major shareholder if he did not want control. Why would the major shareholder not be on the board. Very strange. "Untenable" the statement read, why intenable? Is it because  Parker refuses to rejoin the board while Fenty is Chairman?. Something not quite right here.

It seems quite dodgy, no one is being clear with what they're saying. You'd think with something as important as this they'd just come out and say what the deal is.

Wow . . . . . it's come quicker than I thought but i'm thankful it's come !!

His tenureship of this club has, quite frankly, been awful, with wrong decisions on the football side taken throughout.
He has lost lots of his own money towards the end because of those decisions and I feel sorry for him in a way because he ultimately is a fan who to his cost, tried to run a Football club like a business and got it horribly wrong.

IMO the good ship Mariner needed a new Captain years ago so I for one, with the club probably reaching it's lowest point this season, is thankful that Admiral Parker will soon be grabbing hold of the Grimsby Town Wheel and setting sail for less stormier seas !!

A new start . . . . . . a new beginning . . . . . . . a new era !!!!

Untenable simply because the club have fallen foul of the takeovers commission. He couldnt stay now Parker has 54% of the club unless Parker bought all the unissued share capital.

I am told Chris Carr has no interest whatsoever in getting invoved in GTFC

I don`t think I have as much faith in MP as I did in JF, it seems to me that he has been sniping away in the background since he left the board, he now has his chance will he take it on or will we have to go back to JF cap in hand come Christmas to save the club-----we shall see, at least he`s still on the board

Not exactly sure why you are so cheerful. These "wrong decisions" that everybody keeps banging on about are presumably referring to the choice of manager. Unless people also want S&H replacing then this will not change anything.

Best case scenario is that someone else steps in to keep the club afloat and nothing changes.
Worst case is we go out of business.

Good question.

Quoted from Perkins
"Untenable" the statement read, why intenable? Is it because  Parker refuses to rejoin the board while Fenty is Chairman?. Something not quite right here.

Because he's no longer the major shareholder - says in the statement "felt that his position as Chairman had become untenable, with effective control of the Club, now resting outside of the Board of Directors."

What I want to know is, was it the case before or has Parker recently increased his shareholding ?

What is this "Take Over Panel" mentioned in the statement - anyone know ?

Quoted Text
The Panel on Takeovers and Mergers (the “Panel”) is an independent body, established in 1968, whose main functions are to issue and administer the City Code on Takeovers and Mergers (the “Code”) and to supervise and regulate takeovers and other matters to which the Code applies.

Its central objective is to ensure fair treatment for all shareholders in takeover bids.

I hope this is the last of his association with the club. If he manages to get any of his money out of the club it will be a travesty, his tenure has been an utter disaster and he has slowly strangled most of the life out of the club.

Yes i know that, I just don,t understand why someone who now has 54% of the clubs shares has made no attempt to re-join the board. Why bother? Who alerted the Take Over Panel? The situation over the shares must have been known by all parties since Parker increased his shares. As i said. Something not right here.

Meaning I had faith in him always trying to do his best for the club whilst chucking good money after bad, not that he was blameless in some of the decisions

Meaning leaving the board and not replying to Emails a sort of spiteful silence when you have so much money involved

OK just my opinion of course

The other option was to carry on regardless with an incompetent Chairman that had led us to a situation whereby the club loses a million pound a year. He has left the club in a far worse state than when he took over and maybe the damage has already been done but i feel much better without him at the helm.

This surprise announcement presents new opportunities and potential risks.  The uncertainty is not good.

I agree that MP buying majority shares is a clear intention - and welcome.  The same outcome happened at Arsenal recently.

What will the impact be on the players?  If anything.

Fair enough but if Parker does not take over (you have to admit it doesn't look nailed on) I struggle to see how we would stay afloat.

GTFC under Fenty was bad but no GTFC would be worse.

The important thing now is what will MP bring to the party. Would be nice if it was him and a few others with Grimsby money getting involved to put in enough money to not only survive, but to enable a real bit of upwards momentum and maybe even a new stadium... You never know, Cameron's mate David Ross might have had a change of heart and decided to put some of his millions in, god knows we need it.

Anyone putting money in to GTFC will have to be prepared to lose it. In the current climate I doubt there will be a big queue! If someone VERY rich like Ross doesn't turn up then this looks VERY bad.

If MP has done this, then I wouldn't trust him as far as I could spit. There are far better ways to conduct business.

But all we hear on the Fishy is that Fenty won't let anyone else on board, keeping it for himself. Now someone (possibly) comes along and tries to wrestle control from the grasp of this villainous, multiple TOTW winning club-wrecker he's marked down as (possibly) sneaky and untrustworthy.

I'm going to ride this one out, all will be fixed by Friday*

(maybe not this Friday*)

The important thing now is what will MP bring to the party. Would be nice if it was him and a few others with Grimsby money getting involved to put in enough money to not only survive, but to enable a real bit of upwards momentum and maybe even a new stadium... You never know, Cameron's mate David Ross might have had a change of heart and decided to put some of his millions in, god knows we need it.

let's just hope that this hasn't happened too late, fenty has mismanaged the finances in disastrous style, we've even got a ridiculous £900k wage bill in div5 for christ's sake.  he's thrown loans at the club to try and buy his way out and failed spectacularly

let's hope that whoever steps forward runs the club in a professional and sensible fashion

Can't the club get in touch with Elliot Morley? He'll be looking for a job shortly, plenty of time on his hands, and probably got some dirty wonga stashed away somewhere.

Could it be a case of putting Parker in a position where he either takes up the reigns or has to publicly defer to Fenty and we carry on as we are?

I'm not a Fenty fan by any means but it must be difficult to have Parker in the background, not really involved and everybody seemingly assuming he'd do a far better job.

Yes youre right.

Weve being doing so well with Fenty at the helm.

Its obvious the club needs to be run from top to bottom like a PROFESSIONAL football club instead of the amatuerish shambles weve had to enjoy these last few years.

And that is without mentioning the playing side...

I don't see why everyone is having a excrement fit worrying... The future was very bleak with JF in charge... With him leaving we actually have a chance of getting someone who can run a football club and if we don't, the inevitable has just come sooner than it would have with him in charge...

Why worry?  According to all those who have wanted Fenty gone for an age there is a veritable truck load of people waiting to put money into the club.  Surely with all these money men around we will be completely fine.  Will we not?

I'd rather have a Conference club than no club at all, without Fenty we'd be copulated. Who do you thinks going to plug with £1 million + gap in our finances? Parker? Thats just what everybody presumes going to happen, I dont think anybody will pump the kind of money Fenty has put in. And if Parker doesn't take over, who does!? Its a flipping disaster and i've said it for years when all the divvy brigade came out and said Fenty out, people have no idea. They just want to go gun hoe, get him out and then not have a clue whats going to happen after!

Well we're copulated with him and have been for some time. It strikes me that Parker has engineered his resignation because he couldn't morally share the boardroom with a man who has become synonymous with the demise of GTFC.

Has he got something up his sleeve? Wait and see!

Now we just need someone who does not mnd losing 1 million quid of his own money each year..

mr fenty has made mistakes and some very bad decisions but his committment and passion can not be questioned..

all those rejoicing in this day and think all there christmases have come all at once had better hope mike parker wants to take it on or we are proper copulated and we might not have a club to support.

i think its a worrying day rather than a happy one.

We have only ever gone backwards under Fenty. I just hope it is not to late an the damage he has done to the club is repairable. It was a flipping disaster that he took over in the first place and he has brought nothing but misery to this club.

It's been created in the persuit of success, just like all the other clubs who have gone into admin, it isn't just us you know! You know the difference between us and the clubs who did go into admin? They didn't have anybody to pump in the extra cash, we DID and now we dont. We have driven out the only person plugging that gap, how is that a good thing!?

I know that things look bad but things at the club could not go on as they were so look on the bright side it may all turn out the best thing that as happened at the club for 7 years.
This could also have had a lot too do with the players and managers in the back ground at the club so thank you John F and myself I hope we go back up the leagues with out you.UTMM!!!

Bloody hell. There I am, blissfully indulging myself in CSI Miami and a Toffee Crisp - only to take one look at the Fishy and find that we're still up sheet creek but without the paddle of Fenty's chequebook. Those of you celebrating had better know something about an imminent takeover.

I accept we're in the conference due to his continuously poor judgement but his wealth has provided life support to the club since the tax debt came along.

The clouds over BP seem just a little bit darker tonight

About flipping time.... Happy days

On the down side who do I vote TOTW now??????

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

I accept we're in the conference due to his continuously poor judgement but his wealth has provided life support to the club since the tax debt came along.

The clouds over BP seem just a little bit darker tonight

some people dont see the bigger picture, like who is stupid and rich enough to take on grimsby town..

first its like yesss fenty has left and then reality sets in and then they think intercourse who is coming in then to take it on..

if mike parker is not waiting in the wings then i really fear for us, i really do..

Could that possibly be because Fenty paid all the bills?

No. He pumped in cash to bail his blunders. Look at the accounts. Fall in gates, fall in TV revenue as we dropped down the leagues but he threw more and more cash at excrement players out to grab a free pay-off. We had the income to clear the tax debt ages ago - we made good money from the play-off final, Spurs, Newcastle and then more with the Wembley visit  - as well as numerous other occasions. But we drunk it all away.

Club's have done better than us with far less money without chalking up excessive debt. That's not excusing those that have - but I'm comparing us with those that haven't.

Isn't it obvious the real reason why Fenty has resigned???

He didn't want to suffer the humiliation of being voted twit of the week on the fishy for a third week running.

My apologies.  Here was me thinking that was a managers decision!

No one is suggesting Fenty is blameless for any of the decisions that have been made over the last decade.  I hope as much as anyone that the future is bright.  My fears are considerably different.

This is very sad news imho.  Clearly something happened whilst MP was on the board (briefly) i think JF wanted him on the board but for me i think the other 2 directors had something to do with it, something tells me MP is not the only one who will be investing in the club lets just say a gut feeling, or is it that vindaloo i had last night   , does MP have the power to remove directors in favour of people he knows?  I can understand were JF is coming from i mean MP has not been in contact or JF cannot get hold of MP, yet MP's investment was to do with shares not surplus cash meaning MP would me the major shareholder yet is not on the board and i think from a business point of view you cant work like that.  MP needs to make a statement regarding this its like the owner of a business jacking off to some other part of the country yet leaving everything in the hands of someone who cant really make the decisions as its not his business (well something like that).

Seeing as I have been arguing on here for ages that JF should step aside I would be a hypocrite not to be pleased with the news.

Nothing personally against Fenty and I have a lot of respect for the way he has bankrolled the club, but like others have said the mess is really of his own making. He has had the opportunity to stand down ever since MP came on the scene. Perhaps this has been forced on him now or perhaps he sees a face saving moment.

Whatever the reason, it doesn't matter. What matters is the future.

Whoever takes over when this is sorted out must -

- guarantee the financial stability of the club
- come up with a viable plan for the future
- bankroll the managers to improve the squad for a promotion push this year if possible and next year as a minimum requirement
- get the fans and the community on board with some good PR straightaway

Thank you JF, you may have made your bravest and best decision as chairman of the club.

How narrow minded are some people? Thinking its just this club and just this chairman, everything Fenty did is because he thought it was for the best. He put trust in managers with his own cash and supplimented there mistakes with yet more cash. He tried to move with the times, had he not he would've been shot down but as it happens he gave it a go and failed. But this season he was trying to turn it around, he was plugging the flipping gap! It's happened all over the country with worse circumstances than this and Fenty is the reason we are not in admin. You can say he's the reason hes were we are now but i'd like to see another guy willing to pump millions in to at least give it a go. Peopl are so set in there minds to be right that they fail to see the bigger picture, have it your way then, Fenty made mistakes and now you can go tell everybody that but dont go up in tears WHEN we go into admin because nobody else had the balls to do what Fenty did. Thankyou for trying John and thankyou for pumping in millions to the club you love to try and give the people of this town success. Most people with half a brain will see you tried your bloody best and we are going to flipping struggle without you! I'm sure everybody knows where the next pound is going to come from now....

I agree with most of this apart from being brave and his best decision, it seems more like a tantrum and stomping of feet.  JF has a couple of million pegged at the club as a benign debt.  Why not turn some of that benign debt into shares and match MP.  If the club folds in the future then it will be down to pettyness and JF's legacy will be that of someone who killed the club because of ego.

Why has he resigned then? He could have matched Parkers shares by turning his some of his loans into shares. He has not been pushed he is jumping ship, he is no hero and he is the worst thing to ever happen to this club.

I dont think MP will get involved on a day to day basis but will appoint/co-opt someone to do so until such time as he has the time and inclination to step into the firing line.

Surprised nobody has picked up on the absence of a regular poster over recent days

Yeah, like some are saying, we need to wait and see before we class this as a good or a bad thing. It sounds all well and good, getting rid of a chairman that hasn't done a very good job but if it ends up with the club imploding then it obviously isn't.

Hopefully, Fenty wouldn't resign knowing that that could happen though because if he did then all of the money that he put in to save the club will have been for nothing.

I agree yes JF made some strange appointments i.e. were the managers had no experience (Rodger, Groves etc) probably thinking they have played a lot of games and must know something, maybe the applicants were as good as we think, but even managers with experience have also failed the only one i wasn't happy about is Nicky Law.  JF has always backed the managers with a playing budget, yet i feel that some of these managers have to take the majority of the blame because its them that buy the players not JF.  Lok what happened when MN was apppointed yet some applauded him for appointing a successful manager and i'm sure he didn't turn around to JF and say yeah i'll be manager but i dont coach the team, do you really think JF would appoint him if he knew this was the case.  Then when it all goes pear shaped JF is to blame because the buck always stops at the top but in reality he did nothing wrong.  His only weakness was he PR which even i can admit is something i'd hate to do as i know i would be crap at it but sometimes as life as a chairman you have to speak to media there is no shying away from it.

Rumoured to be £60 million

I suspect this is far from the truth. The Sunday Times list of the richest 2000 people in the UK starts at people worth £32m and above and neither Parker nor Fenty appear on it.

It might well be a tantrum. Doesn't matter really, I was just being polite.

The fact is what matters, not the motive. The past is gone, look let's to the future.

How much did MP parker sell Blue crest for....i'm sure my dad said it was a hell of a lot (he use to work for MP).  If MP is still involved with Youngs then this could be the start of something good.

Young's Seafood Ltd. is a British producer and distributor of frozen, fresh, and chilled seafood, supplying approximately 40% of all the fish eaten in the United Kingdom every year. It is headquartered in Grimsby, England.

The company as it is today was formed through the merger of Young's and Bluecrest in 1999. It is privately-owned by venture capital concern Lion Capital LLP who purchased the parent company Foodvest (part of CapVest) in July, 2008. It is a major player in the European seafood industry and also owner of sister company, Findus AB, based in Malmö, Sweden.

Market areasMost of the group's sales are of its Young's brand of frozen and chilled fish, shrimp, and shellfish. The company is also the owner of Macrae in Scotland.

The Young's Foodservice subsidiary focuses on the restaurant and catering industry whilst Polarfrost Seafoods specializes in fish frozen at sea.

Sister business, The Seafood Company, now specialises in chilled fish for UK retailers own label.

[edit] HistoryPrior to the merger with Bluecrest, Young's itself had been the result of a number of takeovers and management buyouts.

[edit] Early HistoryThe 1805 foundation of Young's is based on that being the year when one Elizabeth Martha began selling fish on the Greenwich quays. In 1811, Martha married William Timothy Young, a member of a fishing family based on the River Thames since the mid-18th century, thus combining their fishing and selling businesses. The business prospered and later moved downriver to Leigh-on-Sea.

By the end of the 19th century the business, under William Joseph Young, had become a prominent fish merchanting and wholesaling company, operating its own fleet of small boats primarily for fishing whitebait and shrimp. In 1890, the company moved its headquarters to London to begin supply the city's catering market - a move boosted after 1895 when a railway connecting Leigh-on-Sea to London was built, enabling the morning catch to arrive in the city before lunchtime.

Young's expanded throughout the 1920s, becoming one of the first companies in England to import salmon and debuting the company's most successful product, potted shrimp.

The next generation of the Young family - brothers Gordon, Stanley, Douglas, and Malcolm - took over in the late 1930s and set up a new subsidiary for its wholesaling business. Another subsidiary added dockside purchasing and processing operations in Grimsby, which later emerged as the United Kingdom's (and for a time, the world's) busiest fishing port. By the 1950s, the company had built five production facilities for its potted shrimp production.

[edit] Takeovers by the Ross Group and Imperial Tobacco1959 marked the end of Young's independence, after the company was purchased by the larger Ross Group. Young's, however, maintained its own operations, and especially its nationally known brand name, and members of the Young family remained in charge of the company's direction.

Ross's and Young's frozen foods operations grew strongly through the 1960s. A new network of distribution depots was set up, and a number of wholesalers throughout the country were acquired. By the middle of the decade the group's share of the UK's frozen food sector topped 5 percent in the retail channel, and as much as 13 percent in the catering market.

The Ross Group's trawling operations, however, were losing money throughout the decade and, in 1969, the group agreed to be acquired by Imperial Tobacco - as part of which process Ross's trawling business was spun off into British United Trawlers. Ross was renamed Imperial Foods (a division of the newly renamed Imperial Group) but both the Ross and Young's names survived as independently operating divisions of the new company.

As part of Imperial, Young's invested to expand capacity and developed a new centralized distribution system. By the middle of the 1970s, Young's sales had more than doubled, topping £23 million in 1974, and the company was operating 18 factories.

[edit] The Hanson and United Biscuits ErasBy the mid-1980s, however, Imperial was caught in an era of hostile takeovers, becoming the target of a number of companies including United Biscuits Plc (UB). UB lost out to fast-growing conglomerate Hanson in its attempt to acquire Imperial, but Hanson was interested only in Imperial's tobacco holdings and sold Ross Young's to UB in 1988. Under UB's ownership, Young's was redeveloped as a standalone division. However, by the late 1990s, UB was restructuring its business to focus on core brands. In 1999 it decided to sell Young's to a management buyout backed by Legal & General Ventures (LGV).

[edit] BluecrestBluecrest, founded in 1975 by Frank Flear, was a British manufacturer and processor of fish products based in Grimsby, England, UK. It was acquired by Fitch Lovell in 1985 and in 1990 it was sold to Booker Plc, which also had acquired the Ross fish division from Hanson. The two companies were merged to form Booker's Fish Division. In 1999 Booker sold Bluecrest to a management buyout of rival Young's Seafood, backed by Legal & General Ventures (LGV).[1]

Once combined with LGV's other UK seafood group the newly created Young's Bluecrest became the UK's leading specialist fish business.

[edit] Buyouts & AcquisitionsIn 2000, Young's Bluecrest relaunched the Young's branded products and invested in increased production capacity. By then turning over more than £320 million, the company also began an expansion strategy, designed to consolidate the British fish sector.

LGV, however, declined to back this expansion, and instead, in 2002, sold Young's Bluecrest to a new management buyout, this time backed by CapVest. The newly-capitalised company made its first acquisition (of the chilled seafood division of Albert Fisher, based in Newcastle), in June 2003. Purchases of the Pinegain Group and its Marr Foods division followed in October 2003; and Young's bought a 34 percent stake in Macrae Food Group, the largest dedicated producer of ready-to-eat seafood in Scotland in September 2004. Expansion and refurbishment of its Humber, Grimsby and Edinburgh operations followed during 2005 and 2006.

[edit] The Company TodayThe acquisition of the UK-based Findus operations from EQT Partners in January 2006 boosted Young's total sales to an estimated £1 billion ($1.7 billion), confirming the company's position as the leader in the UK frozen fish sector, having surpassed rivals Bird's Eye, owned by Permira.

[edit] SponsorshipYoung's is the official club sponsor of Grimsby Town Football Club, with the company logo present on all Grimsby football strips now since the final home match of the 2003-2004 football season. For the 2004-2005 season, the clubs yellow away strip had the product logo for Youngs Mariners Pie, to tie in with Grimsby Town's club nickname "The Mariners".

If Mike Parker does and I say does want to take over, I think most people will agree he will want the other muppets that are left on the directors board with £500 of shares each off it.

Fingers crossed if Mike Parker becomes Chairman, he will bring people willing to make more significant investment in terms of being on the board of directors.

I'm wondering if Mike has called in this Take Over Panel company to oust Fenty so he can take control of the club

Sorry to say  Martz86 but you could not be further away from the facts.
There’s been some very clever clandestine moves taking place of late.
In the ruthless business world one must be prepared to be able to take a step down to pave the way for taking a step up to achieve ones target. Bit like being prepared to lose a penny instead of a pound.

Time will show John Fenty will come out of this minor issue the winner, he’s Teflon coated and a born survivor.

Dallas - J R Ewing ---- GTFC - J S Fenty - no contest mark my words.

You could say the same about Adolf Hitler's rule of Germany. (No, I'm not comparing the two).

I'm with Denby and Headingley Mariner (and others) on this one

Well if your not comparing the two what are you saying? Hitler didn't do it for the good of his country, he did it all for himself. Fenty did it for fans like you to have something to cheer about, he failed slightly but I believe we would've got out the conference within 4 seasons with him in charge. This new news will almost inevitably slash the wage budget again, making it that bit harder to escape. But thats alright isn't it, because you were all right about Fenty so the consequences of him going pale into insignificance

This is a very unsettling development. Boardroom stability and a consistent strategy are two pre-requisites for a successful club, and it's clear that since the traumatic events last February GTFC has neither of these. Obviously something went drastically wrong with the Board relationships around that time - I'm not at all clear what went on then, nor the various machinations since - but there appears to be some sort of power struggle going on and lack of harmony amongst the Directors and major investors - difficult to read who's aligning with whom, or manoeuvring for position.

JF has resigned because of an independent Takeover Panel investigation, because it's unclear both whether rules have been breached and what MP's intentions might be. Obviously these developments will force a resolution of the latter - but without inside knowledge it seems presumptory to assume that MP either wants or will take over.

There have been several occasions in the history of GTFC where Boardroom uncertainty or trouble has overshadowed the club, usually with disruptive effect. What makes this more worrying is both our non-league position and our operational financial situation - there is a real risk that this could set off a sequence of events that result in the eventual folding of the club. Obviously that's a pessimistic outcome - but a possibility. Let's hope that things develop in a more positive way.

I just hope that the clubs "benign" debt to J F is not attracting interest, if it is then Town are f##ked!

The resignation may be because Fenty has realised that H & S are not the answer & 17th. in the table is just about par for this administration.

Next year I believe that the parashute payments will have stopped, & maybe J F has done his sums & the financial input required would just be too much to bare.

This bl##dy recession is getting worse I.M.O., Last Saturday 7 League 2 clubs attracted less than 2,500, seems like a good time for a chairman to "jump ship" to me.

Do you think that the "we've no fu##ing money" rant was based on insider knowledge of Fenty's resignation?

What gave you the idea we would be promoted from the conference within four seasons? Could it be fenty admitting at the fans forum that town becoming part time was a possibility in the future or is it his dazzling record for leading us to promotions and success.

Fenty’s gone, Furneaux’s gone and Parker’s not interested. Now all you idiots who thought there was a sugar daddy in waiting? David Ross seems really keen doesn’t he? Fenty must be mad for keeping the club going for the past 7 years, especially when people like the high and mighty students that run codalmighty are always mocking him. And what gives you the idea we have improved that timescale with todays news? I based mine on the fact we have one of the biggest budgets in the league which is almost soley provided by him. And dont come back with the 'Well look where thats getting us' because its a work in progress with the managers, they are in charge of his money and to criticise Fenty for that at this stage is daft, because then you will be also criticising managers who 95% of this fan base believe will do well.

I would like to speculate a bit. Could this be a power play between two wealthy businessmen? If you`re not willing to gamble, you will never get rich. These men are gamblers.
By stepping down from a situation where you are not the major shareholder, you force the person with the majority of shares to either: 1. Take formal control of the club and join the board 2. Make him step down as major shareholder as he sells his surplus shares.
Fenty can`t be very pleased with a situation where he is chairman of a board with a minority share. His decision forces the hand of Mike Parker, and ultimately gives the disgruntled fans an answer to the question we all seek an answer to: If John Fenty steps down - will someone at all step up? There might still be a chance that we haven`t seen the last of Fenty (and his lovely daughter) yet.

If this actually is the end of Fentys reign - A big thank you for keeping the club afloat through some troubled times. All decisions may not have been wise, but then again - the decisions I take in my own life really sucks from time to time. We all make mistakes and we all sometimes succeed. You have succeeded in keeping the club economically viable and an ongoing concern. I thank you for that!

Work in progress, since when has fenty had the patience to allow any managers to have a team that is a work in progress, he would have sacked them like all the rest. 95% of town fans think the managers will do well? just pluck that out of the air?
I would not advocate sacking the managers but they are really struggling at the minute and have assembled a really poor squad with the alleged 900k playing budget, this season looks as though it will be another write off.

A very sensible and reasoned post if you d'ont mind me saying Geir, there has clearly been a battle between the two since Parkers resignation, Fenty has put a sizeable amount into the club and clearly feels
because of that he cannot match MP's investment in shares, as you shrewdly say, its now up to Parker to put up or shut up,  personally i hope he puts up, but only time will tell,we can only hope that perhaps he and a so far mythical co-investor will turn this club round.
IMO I reckon there are more rounds in this fight to be fought, i just hope that the blood isn't so bad that
JF demands his  loans back from the club,  should that happen it would be very, very dangerous for our future.

Fenty's resignation as Chairman and replacement by Parker as majority shareholder will not benefit the club one iota unless Fenty takes all his mistakes and maladministration with him

Itchy and Scratchy, his lastest mistakes, must go too otherwise, if Parker is forced to exercise his option of making an offer for all the shares under the Take Over Rules, he merely inherits all the sh!te and problems Fenty has put in place and who in his right mind wants that.

I note if its not sorted by the AGM on Nov 25th, Fenty intends to 'take his seat with the other shareholders' - not fuking next to me I hope!

Exactly.

He's failed full stop. Everything he's touched has turned to shit.

With all respect, how many games have you been to this season? Because that seems like the sort of thing somebody who is just looking at results says about a start like this, we have put in good performances in the past few home games which eclipsed the opening few games so it has improved. However if you have been to a fair few games then if what you have seen has been 'poor' then I guess thats your opinion. The central midfield has drastically improved from day one, the defence is improving, the goalkeeper is a completely better player but up top we obviously miss Connell but i'd say the signs are better.

Parker only has to do that IF he is acting in cohoots with Fenty. Is that the case?

I thought the last EGM saw the need for an offer for the remaining un-issued shares removed?

I have missed Newport and Fgr. How many have you been to?
Disley has improved the midfield, Artus is good one minute anonymous the next, i like church from what i have seen of him but its to early to judge. The goalie is good as is Hearn, but the rest are weak and we are a long way off. I hope the two can sort it but we are short of the quality we had last season even if the effort is better.

From what I know (which isn't a great deal, admittedly), I'd be very surprised if Parker had as much cash as Fenty.

Notice Meza's run-down of the fortunes of Bluecrest/Youngs/etc.

There was a management buyout which I understand MP was involved with. However, this was on the back of loans from outside sources so, though I'm sure they made a few bob when selling it on later, I'd tend to doubt it was an enormous killing.

Thinking that Parker is going to be another sugar daddy seems unlikely to be correct. If nothing else, does he have the time to spend on running a football club?

The fact remains that you'd have to be nuts to buy a lower division football club, especially in the current financial climate. Unless you're lucky, it will only ever end in tears as Fenty (and the rest of us) have found out.

If Parker does take over, I'd imagine he may have a bit more nouse than Fenty but would he have any more luck in signing players or (should ScoHurst depart), managers?

Whatever happens, I can't help but think it would be nice to end a season with the same manager(s) who started it.

Whilst I admire you for putting across a reasoned argument on behalf of JF I would say you've never seen a decent Town side and for that reason alone you are always going to be at a disadvantage.  The current team is laying in it's rightful place due to results earned, we may have a slightly better team but that's something we keep saying whilst going backwards each season.  Look at some of the teams above us and tell me why they are above us on half the budget and a quarter of the fan base.  Who in their right mind would listen to JF, he administered several relegation's due to lack of football intelligence and then he tells the Gimps how to avoid relegation out of the league only to see them drop out of the league without a whimper.  He is midas evil twin, everything he has touched to do with GTFC has turned to excrement.

This latest stunt has done it for me, over the years I've grown to dislike his leadership, not him personally, just his tenure, he hasn't got a clue.  If MP doesn't step up with a new board then it's JF that killed this club.

Supporting the Mighty Mariners for over 30 years, home town club is were the heart and soul is and it's great to be a part of it.

I will never mind you calling my posts sensible and reasoned! I would actually declare your post in the same category!

I d'ont think Parker on his own would be a complete answer - i  reckon  deep down he  would feel the same, we can
only hope that his  seemingly  constant re-investment in shares is because   he has a decent business partner set up  which would allow him to get rid of these ridiculous puppet directors, who were   apparently  set up  to nod their heads when  nudged.

I've missed all away games but like I said, it's each to there own on how we percive performances really. I think Disley and Artus work well off each other, Artus is skillful and creative, something which we have massively missed in recent years. Disley reminds me of a more skillful Paul Bolland. Duffy and Mafofo have improved endless amounts aswell. Coulson is hit and miss this season, one minute he'll be crap but when you drop him you realise that we really miss him. Pearson and Kempson are improving as a pairing and Jamie Green looks a good player. I guess we will see how the season pans out, but if you think we are poor now, imagine how it would be with half of a budget!?

Parker has NOTHING TO DO with Youngs now since the latest buyout where he stepped down as deputy chief exect to Wynne Griffiths so lets keep the facts true

"His only weakness is PR"

If only you were right.

The whole club is a shambles and in case you hadnt noticed weve been non league for two seasons and we currently sit 17th.

How bad does it have to get before you see the light?

You tell me seeing you know all his failings yes he appoints the managers but does he buy the players.......erm no he can't do much about that it's down to the manager.  The problem with appointing managers is it's like a lottery you never know what will happen i.e. Mike Newell I bet even you thought he would do a lot better than he did I know I certainly did.

No he doesn't appoint the managers...the Board appoints the managers and on at least one occasion in recent history he was outvoted on this matter.  I agree with the lottery point though...I agreed with a number of their appointments and I'm sure many others did too.

Yipee.

Dont tell me-he is going to ride in on a white horse and save us and take us down a few more divisions.

If Fenty re-appears in any guise that will be the lot for a good number of die hard fans.

I always worry about any announcement with Fentys name at the bottom of it - it always seems convoluted and open to misinterpretation but I hope this time he means what we hope - that he is gone forever.

I'm not sure about that...in a financial sense Mike Parker already has "put up".  I think he just feels that the position of the Board is untenable when the guy who own 54% of the shares isn't sat on it!

But does share ownership translate into money the club can use ?

People should listen to Dave Otter on RH (from 43:40)
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p00k7rdy/Sports_Talk_19_09_2011/

"Well according to John, for the moment there's no financial problem."
"But there could be a problem come December January time when there will need to be extra investment. And basically it's down to Mike Parker."

Has Fenty overspent ?
Is he shouldering the day to day financial burden all by himself ?

"We aint got no fackin money" + "use it or lose it" - we should have seen it coming....

Fenty stands down as Chairman to become a director should be no problem, however it's now time for Chapman and Elsom to leave they offer nothing and have been part and parcel of why we have dropped like as stone, get rid of these limpets whilst there are big changes at boardroom level of the club.

Has anyone actually read the official statement? Feny as  stepped own over a few fans swearing at him, or some cunning plan to get Parker to step up with some cash. He and the club are being investigated by the Take Over Panel, and Fenty has already been interviewed. Town are a PLC and the directors can't go around passing shares around each other, or creating new ones, they have to follow rules regarding share ownership. I don' claim to know anything about share dealing, but I'd guess Fenty has either stepped down because they've broken these rules, or its a temporary thing until they've towed the line and offered Parker the chairmans role or something similar.

Rather tan running scared of a few gobby chavs, Fenty's more worried about having his collar felt over misunderstanding the rules regarding running the business.

Fenty in the GET :

Trying to run the football club at anytime is difficult, let alone with the controlling shareholder sat outside of the boardroom," he said, talking exclusively to the Grimsby Telegraph.

"I must assure supporters there isn't any immediate financial panic. It's towards the end of the year when the football club requires more money."

"There will be a cry from some the football club is rudderless – that is not going to be the case," he continued.

"I am remaining as a director and there is no intention of anyone to leave that role at this stage.

"I've made sure the club could remain a going concern year in, year out through funding I have provided.

"We had been successively relegated over two seasons and Peter Furneaux decided to call time on his chairmanship.

"I guess I was the last man standing; it wasn't really planned. Nevertheless, it was a privilege to chair the club I love.

"It's harder than you might imagine. You just cannot legislate for what's going to happen in football.

"Sleep, home-life and your existence is affected. Despite all the flak, I don't regret it at all and would take the job on again if in the same position."

I think the club's footing is a lot sounder than it was when I joined the board; at least we only have future debts.

"The position of the football club today is very different to the one I inherited as a majority shareholder back in 2002.

"We don't have a £700,000 tax debt – it's all been paid off.

"We don't have the shortfall each year left by ITV Digital's collapse of £2½-million.

"They were massive problems for the club.

"We had players being paid sums of money equal to those income streams that were lost.

"In all honesty, there was a mercenary attitude from a lot of those players who wouldn't take a pay cut.

"In fact, the only one prepared to take a cut at the time was Steve Croudson.

"We lost 55 per cent of our income overnight; it was a terrible burden.

"There weren't any Jack Lesters or Lee Ashcrofts to sell, they had already gone.

"But that aside, we never had a good enough reason to go into administration.

"There was never a time in those dark early days it was in the best interests of the club to go into administration.

"So we had to grin and bear it and roll our sleeves up.

"We agreed a repayment schedule with the tax man and launched the 'Keep The Mariners Afloat' campaign which was received well by the fans at the time.

"I think the negativity around the club subsided for a while, somehow it manifested itself in acceptance of the situation.

"Ironically, after this we had a good spell on the field.

"Other than that time, we have managed the difficulties outside of the glare of the public eye."
Until the football club comes to terms with where it's at and stops thinking it's a Championship club, and all the anxiety that creates, I don't think there will be an early return to the Football League

Absolutely. Here is someone who simply loves the game and sees it as a privilege to have played. Fantastic bloke.

FANS?

You can intercourse off right now, the blame for our demise is no way involves the fans of this club. I'm sick to death of the fans being told its our fault when in reality you and the other mugs fall for what Fenty and people involved in the club say.
Unbelievable, Let me guess if GTFC does die over the next few months that will be the fans fault as well will it? for wanting Fenty out Total flipping balderdash

under the circumstances, the fans have been mostly excellent over the 10 years of decline

the constant digs at supporters by fenty over the years has been unforgiveable.  we were there are tranmere.  we were there at burton. we were there at braintree.  we know what division we're in

No way in the world are the fans to blame. In fact quite the reverse.

Just checked the gate for the game on 25th September 2001. About exactly 10 years ago, and remember how well we were doing.

It was 4,800.

The support the team is still getting is nothing short of remarkable.

I am not sure what will happen now,

Either of the following I suppose,

1.  Parker takes over,

2. Parker appoints a studge to take the role and report back to him,

3. Someone out of the blue takes over,

4. Fenty returns, ( do not rule this out, it could happen )

There are not many people out there, who are a town supporter and will put their own money into the club,

So if Parker does not want it, we are foooked,

Fenty returns?????????????????

You're explaining to someone on the forum called tarka what Dave Otter said on the wireless! Have a little think.

Quoted from 1600

It sounds like the current position is untenable, so Fenty has stepped aside. But I would agree that this does not mean he will not be back if Parker stepped aside.......Interesting and very uncertain times for the club.

Many people have what they want, but where does that leave us?

It's bit of a no brainer for me this, and it's a conversation I've had privately with a few people. He isnt the majorityshareholder, he is neither in control of the club nor doe she have ownership of it. Why should he be the one expected to keep personally funding it under those circumstances? I know with 100% certainty that under those conditions I wouldn't.

I dont neccessarily understand the in-workings of the clubs finances, but I understand Fenty has large amounts on money within the club as loans. I am unsure if there was a reason (other than his not wanting to) why he didnt want to convert the loans into shares, or why he wouldnt want to buy more shares to match Parker's.

But I also know that Mike Parker has, on the face of it/publicly acted oddly throughout. His timing when resigning from the board couldn't have been worse. A cynic would suggest deliberately timed to cause maximum damage. Likewise, if Mr Fenty HAS been trying to coax him back onto the board why hasn't Parker stipulated what it would take for this to happen, and why has he not been replying to emails sent by Mr Fenty? Further, without an agenda, why would you resign from the board but continue to buy shares resulting in making yourself the majority shareholder?

Mike Parker may well be the messiah, he may well be what GTFC needs, but the way he seems to go about things leaves me (and many others by the way) concerned about his motives and his tactics. I guess anyone wanting to invest the not insignificant amount he has done, wont want anything but good for the club, which then begs the question, WHY?

Persoanlly Im disappointed at how things have panned out. Parker needs to make his intentions clear and do it now. If not he needs to step back and stop playing around. Say what you like about Mr Fenty, he's always tried to do whats in the interests of the club |(from what I have seen anyway).

This is all a little unsettling at the minute and I'd like to see some clarity as soon as possible.

He is clueless, how is the football club on a better standing now than when he took over? we have been relegated three times and lose a million quid a year.

Then he goes on to blame the fans again he makes me sick.

Is it fair to assume that as MP has increased his share to 54% since March that he does want to take over?
Can't think of any other reason why he'd do that, but as others have already said, he seems to have a strange way of going about things.

Probably true, but we lose a million with Fenty which he pays. Or we lose a million without Fenty which nobody pays. Which would you rather?
