Sorry guys but you’re only a true Town fan if you spent 90 mins on a Saturday afternoon in the early 80’s refreshing teletext page 117 every 30 seconds. Just to see if we had scored !!! (Anyone under the age of 50 probably haven’t got a clue what I’m on about ) !!!

| The wife was going away for a girly weekend. I jokingly remarked 'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football' 'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked She said 'Well you already know how to play football' |

As a guy in his late 30s that doesn't live in Grimsby/Cleethorpes anymore, has a wife, a kid, social life and other interests, it's very difficult for me to be a 'true fan' despite being completely obsessed about GTFC for as long as i can remember.

Can someone (Golly?) graph out age of Fishy poster vs desire to change manager?
There will be plenty of outliers (Ginny, whilst young at heart, is over 50?) but I would imagine the younger posters are generally more agreeable to Hurst staying.
Although I don’t know what the results would prove? It could be argued that us millennials have experienced more of the crap years relative to better times and are more conditioned to failure / are realistic (delete as applicable).

Well, I was quite keen not to get into all this but I'm afraid I think your characterisation of what Alex said is wrong and misrepresents the point he was making entirely.
Firstly, I could not actually recall the conversation so had to go back and listen. (I think I was checking the Rugby score and not listening to Alex at the time - hopefully we can keep that between us all here and not tell him I'd stopped listening to him 😂)
I’ve listened to the bit to which you refer and from what I can tell the phrase he used regards Hurst's interview was 'talking out his a***'. Now context and nuance is usually quite important in all things despite it being the first thing to disappear in most discussions - what does the phrase mean? Talking nonsense or rubbish, which I do not think is a remotely controversial point in the slightest.
As a big 'Hurst in' advocate over many years I would fully agree that some of what he said after the game was complete rubbish. You seem to say that this is in some way abusive? Again I do not accept that at all, you may disagree with the phrasing, that is fine, but the point stands that I think it's quite accurate.
It's a phrase I use quite regularly and I am sure many others do, I use it with friends and family and I do not think that immediately makes me or others that use it 'abusive'. To reach such a conclusion you'd have to consider the intent and the context. Now given Alex's support of Paul over the years and that he then went on to make a strong and passionate point about how you can believe it is time for a change without been disrespectful to Hurst, his abilities or infact what he's achieved at the club would lead you to maybe suspect you have read more into the comment than was intended.
As for the players "being thick as f***" I think he actually was making a wider point about how they must come across to an opposition defending against them. Again that’s a question of language and phrasing - Paul Hurst has said several times that at times we need to be smarter or play more cleverly. Is this not the exact same point, phrased in a more PC way? I said in the same section Waterfall made a silly challange - silly/stupid/thick?
Football is a game that's all about opinions and a level of passion, you are free to disagree and put your view across, which you have done and I respect that. Screaming these phrases in someone’s face or saying it in a calm manner completely changes the context - so do not agree someone would not say this directly to a player/manager, but how you did would be the key to what bracket it falls under. So I just completely, but respectfully, disagree with your characterisation of his comments. For what it is worth, I am quite happy to say I quite often talk out my bottom, but it is an opinion open to challenge.
I also do not think any of us have ever pretended to speak for anyone else than ourselves, so I don't quite get the 'true fans' angle. Other than myself and Alex, who live south of London, the rest of the Pod team I believe are ST holders.
What I also think is wrong in the above post is how you seemingly start to link what was said to campaigns around responsibilities of reporting certain behaviours - we all know what those types of campaigns and messages are about and I think it’s regrettable to even remotely try and put it into a similar context. We have a long record of calling any of that sort of thing out. However fans have a right to an opinion and a right for that to be critical if warranted.
The podcast is a group of mates that try and discuss Town the way many of us would if we were at home, in the pub or having a beer at half time. Does that mean we swear? Yes. Does that mean we put things in a more blunt way than if you were on the fans forum? Yes. I don’t think what Alex said is any different from what many fans will have said over the last few weeks.
Anyway hopefully we can draw a line under all this, I appreciate your opinion and here’s hoping the football improves so we have some good stuff to talk about!

Change the 5 for a 6. Older, but not wiser. If I was wise, I'd spend my weekends doing something enjoyable.

I think this "True / Real Fan" was something i heard a while back, such as if you haven't got a season ticket or even go to away games, then I'm just an armchair fan.
A real fan in my eyes has balanced views (good and bad) and supports the club in anyway they can. Too many "older" generation on here who think they are gods gift to fans and their opinion matters more than anyone else's.
Anyone asking for PH to be sacked is quite frankley "not right in the head" when you consider everything and not just 10 games into a season. Have a word with yourself FFS.

I went to every single match home and away of the disastrous 2003/04 season and didn’t leave a single game early.
This included… Hartlepool 8-1 Grimsby Oldham 6-0 Grimsby Port Vale 5-1 Grimsby Wycombe 4-1 Grimsby Brighton 3-0 Grimsby Wrexham 3-0 Grimsby Q.P.R. 3-0 Grimsby Rushden & Diamonds 3-1 Grimsby Notts County 3-1 Grimsby
So clearly I’m the truest fan out of the lot of you. Narrowly ahead of GranthamMariner who only missed the Peterborough away match in the FA Cup that season.
On a more serious note, we’re all fans whether you go to every game or have to pick and choose.
God I went to a few of those and also didn’t leave early as I never do, but they didn’t half send a shiver down the spine.

I believe the term is, all town aren't we... couldn't care if you spend £1 or £1000. People may have differing opinions but we all have one thing in common, we all love Grimsby Town Football Club.

Mike, Thanks for the reply. Well balanced and thought out. Rather than keep going over old ground about your reply I will agree that context and choice of wording is key and highlight just the one point.
Quoted Text
Paul Hurst has said several times that at times we need to be smarter or play more cleverly. Is this not the exact same point, phrased in a more PC way? I said in the same section Waterfall made a silly challange - silly/stupid/thick?
And in saying that you've summed it up perfectly. Alex didn't say that. He said they were as "thick as F***" in quite a direct manner rather than a more conversational tone. Makes a huge difference. Had Paul Hurst had said what Alex said he'd have been clearing his desk by half past 5 Saturday. And again the context in which you describe Waterfalls challenge is far more respectful than something along the lines of calling him an idiot for example. At the end of the day we are all wanting success for the team whatever that looks like and are frustrated with the current results and style of play. I just think that differences of opinion need to be aired respectfully especially by those with an elevated platform like the the podcast. Here's to 3 points on Saturday.

This 'true fan ' thing is as cringe as that 'everywhere we go ' song every club sing now .
