I don't think anybody stood out as impressive in either of our teams. Pauls got a job when the time comes to pick the starting 11

What I saw was a 1st 11 made up of mainly new players. Who pressed high, played some quick pass and move football mixed with some direct balls down the flanks and looked like they wanted to play.

Compared a 2nd 11 mainly made of last seasons squad. Who looked alot more static and relied more on hoof balls as a result, defended alot deeper and didn't look all that bothered about playing with a few exceptions Cartwright and Otis as examples.

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

I once said Gazza's IQ was less than his shirt number and he asked me: What's an IQ? - George Best

Only checked the last 2 pages of this thread and disagree with most. I thought for a pre season game it was good value for money (I even missed the middle part as we went to take the dogs for a walk). I watched the first 40 odd mins and last 50mins and thought we passed it well and times and into dangerous. Seemed confident to do it and most of them paid off. I can't say anyone stood out positively but noone looked awful.
I can't even guess what the team will be. I assumed Wilson would be a back up striker but I've like what I've seen of him so far.

The second match was a bit of a snoozefest although Kahn and the two young uns looked decent. First match had more about it, really liked the look of that team with several of the new lads playing decent. Particularly liked the look of Mullarkey, Rogers and Conteh. Eastwood distribution looked fine to me couldn't see an issue there personally.

The young centre half in the second half/game was excellent.  Could be a decent player over the coming years. Composed, decent physique and aggressive.

First half team will make up the bulk of the starting XI you’d think. Good depth across the squad now though. Looking forward to seeing a game with something on it in a few weeks!

First game warm down showed who’s fit. Conteh blowing hard, Harry and Evan looked super fit. Efete will struggle to keep a starting spot as Mullarkey looks a real player, same applies to Waterfall regarding Rodgers. Rose will doubtless start but hard to say who the midfield and other attackers will be. I suspect he’ll play two deep and two wide with one behind Rose.

Waterfall...Amos...Green....Braithwaite ...Vernam all disappointed for me.
Keepers....thought Eastwood looked more assured/commanding but looked very nervous with the ball at his feet...Cartwright looked better with his feet but not as commanding.
Wilson and Eisa looked the livelier of the forward players.

Unusual format game probably disrupted everyone. Hull didn't look like world beaters for the level they are at, no great pace about them.

Bramley the young centre half looked assured, one to watch there.

Mullarkey probably the pick for me.

The only thing I took away from that was that Mullarkey and Rodgers are big improvements on Efete (hate to say it) and Waterfall , if that's their consistent levels of performance .We wanted upgrades and it seems we have really pushed the boat out on a high quality 22 with little beneath that - I suspect we will have a very very good season if we can keep the better players fit for the majority

Last season the quality of the squad overall was more even (worse ) but in terms of numbers we were heavy most of the time , it's definately quality over quantity this time out.

Looking forward to the Wimbledon game .

Not surprising that the newer signings were mainly in the first 11 and looked pretty good compared to the players still here from last season. The aim is to improve the playing squad, which means most of last seasons starters will now be next seasons squad players, and last years squad players have/will be moved on.

Stands to reason.
