I bet Paul thinks he has died and gone to heaven.

And

Chris Doig  knows where he is

What a difference the new owners are making and we are not halfway through June yet.

Never have we signed so many players so early!.

No names mentioned but someone who used to work for town closely with the first team said how we literally used no technology. This is a breathe of fresh air. Another massive step in the right direction. Utfm

Hurst’s name is down for the next PowerPoint course.

To identify star players?
To work out which player had eaten too many Milky Ways?
So that we'd know who had had a stellar performance?
Which player's salary was a black hole?

Not sure why you think I'd say that. CEO does seem like a load of balderdash, but improving the training facilities and analysis is important. Although we did have analysis software before and an analyst before Limbrick took it on, but don't let that stop you.

Of course he doesn't! Pen Penfras thinks Fenty was perfect in every way and he and the board did a terrific job and he regards dropping from the championship to non league twice as an a great success! We all know it isn't a success but I'm sure Pen Penfras will find a way of telling us all how a great achievement it is!

At the same time he will be telling us all how dishonest Stockwood and Pettit are and how they can't be trusted and how we need Fenty and Day back!

Other than just saying you don’t agree, why don’t you think a new, proven CEO is important? Plenty of clubs have them, we’ve had one for years to what influence or use they were under an oppressive despot regime…

We've had one for probably two decades. And I cannot recollect one video interview with him. I can recollect pretty much every player of the year leaving on Bosman frees as we've allowed their contracts to expire every season. I recollect the entire structure of the club crumbling leaving the likes of Morcambe and Accrington Stanley to overtake us by two divisions. That said, I must be fair and it can't have been easy for any CEO to work with John Fenty, but it was absolutely time for a new CEO with a fresh outlook and a proven track record and I wish her all the best. We have a lot of catching up to do.

We have a chief executive, that they've decided to keep because of his knowledge of the football industry, but have given him a different title doing the same job. Hiring another expensive executive, whose job will be to direct other people to do things, seems like it could be done by a consultant to direct the staff in the direction we want to go and give them autonomy once the direction is established. I also see very little crossover in the things we want to improve between the YMCA or a health company and a football club.

And yet the decision to employ said CEO was made by two highly successful, multi millionaire businessmen. I have a feeling they know their onions.

Not sure if you have ever worked in a successful business but I think you will find that they all have CEOs and many also have COOs.  I’ve never heard anything so bonkers as hire a consultant who sets a strategy and then leaves and after that no leadership is needed.

Ahh, so we're the only ones smart enough to know that we'll definitely get promoted with 2 expensive executives. Hopefully nobody else figures that out before the start of the season.

Ps, I think Bradford have several ridiculous positions, hasn't helped them.

Consultant or CEO, it doesn't matter as long as they are there long enough to set the right strategy especially seeing as she was only at her last position for a couple of years.

Russell Slade brought in an analyst, when he left Anthony Limbrick and Michael Jolley were doing their own analysis with AL doing the most if it and sending stuff out to individual players and when they left Ian Holloway brought in a young lass who did it.

As for no technology, Alan Buckley  didn't use it and he didn't do too badly.

At the end of the day you can have the best analyst and the best software but if your players aren't good enough it means sod all.

Just as an FYI consultants are EXR\TREMELY expensive and would absolutely cost more per hour than our CEO.  They are also rarely invested in the job as it's a temporary paycheque for them somewhere that they have no attachment to, and to repeat what's been said they usually implement either staff ideas or things tried previously and then walk away with no future recourse.

He's 59 and used to own a fish factory. The money of which was used to enable him to become the principle funder of our proud club until recently.

He was also in charge of regeneration locally until recently despite not being able to deliver Fentydome in 18 years.

Failed in everything he said he would do really  no palm tree kicked off the council  his only success was to get all his money back from years of failure plus kept the money he got from the trust.
I have been in poor health recently but seeing the back of him has picked me up no end.

What a shame that Mr Stockwood (who sold his business for $490 million) didn't listen to footballing experts like you and your chum Fenty

...............”a job that could have been done by a consultant”.

I have seen how consultants work.   Many are bright and personable.  Some have varied experience in different fields.  But, they will come into a business not knowing anything of the history, culture and politics.

Consultants will talk to the staff who do know about these things.  They will then present their findings in a report (based on what the staff have told them) to senior managers.  For a lot of money.

So, employing consultants at GTFC would be expensive for little gain and no development in the longer-term.

Another inherent weakness of engaging consultants would be avoided by our new owners.  Weak leaders and managers get consultants to write reports saying that there needs to be staff cuts.  they then announce staff cuts saying there are based on independent assessments by consultants.  They do not have the guts to do it themselves.

Pen penfras, if consultants are the answer then the wrong question is being asked. I welcome the appointment of a CEO to put the club on a more professional business footing.  After the last 18 years we sorely need to.

Until the rest of the world over took us

Well he was never relegated and you haven't answered the point that we have been using similar software for the past few seasons without success. Also please explain why all those ex league clubs like Chesterfield, Notts County, Wrexham who were using such software before we did all got relegated to the National league and why other clubs struggle each season.

An analyst and software doesn't win you promotion nor does it prevent relegation, it's all about the quality of players and a manager who knows what he is doing.

The last paragraph is correct but it's also about improving lots of things by a small amount. Every little detail adds up to an overall improvement.

Those other teams may well have had the same software, but perhaps deficient in other areas. If it makes us 1% better, that could be the difference between promotion and just missing out.

I see very little crossover between flogging some fish on the cheap and building a multimillion pound new stadium but Fenty reckoned he would have a crack at it. At the club's expense, of course.

That last paragraph can be debated until the cows come home…plenty of clubs would argue the opposite and say that having such informative, minute data helps increase performance. Not just the team but the individual too.

As for PPs comments…I mean you can’t have a pop at new owners/people being excited about a new CEO coming and then saying you don’t see a link between the YMCA and GTFC…I’m assuming you’ve forgotten the precious 20 years?

Please do tell me you’re being ironic?

I seem to recall all this analysis business started years ago with the late Don Revie and Leeds. It brought much success to Leeds at the time and helped them to numerous victories. It was also originally claimed by many to be cheating!

Much has changed since using pen and paper to analyse which way a player turns, which foot is his strongest etc. However, it's not the information you have but the way you use it, as proved originally by Don and copied by many.

It’s only one part of an overall approach to managing. But to quote Alan Buckley as an example of why you don’t need analytics is missing the point. It’s a game of small margins and if Buckley didn’t use analytics that isn’t necessarily a good sign.

Of course if you’d rather we followed his namesakes method and fed the players ‘monkey glands’ I’m sure we’d be European champions by now.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

The new team have talked about changing the culture of the club. I think we just have to see what happens. Let’s face it we finished as the worst team in the football league, nothing but nothing could be worse. By every measure we have been a huge Failure, Clinging to league status each season. I struggle to imagine how we could be any worse utm

Anyway, regardless of what the sceptics may think, this is all part and parcel of the modern game.  We are moving in the right direction.

It seems to me that we have made more progress off the pitch in the last month then in the previous decade.
