Main thing for me tonight is the performance. Cant see us getting anything, coz Exeter look a cut above where we are at present.just hope they show some spirit and give them a run for their money

Ollie said some players gave up and stopped working. I wonder who he meant ?

Think Windsor was just one of the victims of the inevitable shake-up after the Tranmere embarrassment. And as we did well last Tuesday, Ollie, as he said yesterday, wanted to go with the same team and same subs tonight. So he's only changed Clifton in for the injured Wright i think.
I'm sure Windsor will get back in at some point. Think he's got something about him.

Would like to see a stronger bench but if Ollie doesn’t think Windsor and Williams deserve it yet then fine.

So as a STH who’s been told his address is registered with the EFL when I log into to I follow should I just be able to click on the game and watch it?

Would like to see another replay of that. Think McKeown could have collected the cross on the six yard line. He came 3 yards out and no attacking players blocking him from collecting.

Enjoying this again. Whys Max not playing??
|
| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |

Think the Young CB needs to off at half time. Good lad but getting a bit overwhelmed
|
| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |

Edwards on another planet and nobody picks up their 11. Very unprofessional.
Once again nobody in mid field doing the organising.

Probably could have lived with a 0-2 on the balance of play
But to get back in it & then gift two goals is really disappointing

We are playing very well But the difference is final third And two of the goals were poor defensively If we go 4/5-1 down it will not be because we are crap or don't care like Tranny game Just they are a very good and slick L2 team
Edwards is cracking little player but not finished product His end product is very poor Most of their front 6 are the real deal
Big difference

Its pretty clear we have no idea what to do out of possession , ball watching , ball chasing , reacting not anticipating. 11 individuals all acting and moving of their own accord. The shape looks lopsided which has hindered us.
Some positives going forward but absolute schoolboy defending is letting us down.

To be fair that could have been 6-1! But we have played well up until the box Again, not ruthless in both boxes
Some of the goals we concede are awful
And a number are what happens before the ball gets in the box
Defence gets swamped sometimes through our basic errors further up pitch

He was at fault for two at least, possibly his man who he should have been marking for the third too! But he’s young and he will learn, however he needs to be replaced by Pollock for the 2nd half.

Preston needs to stop leaving massive gaps behinds him, he's too eager to get forward and has to understand when to go and when not to... We are at least trying to play some good stuff, wish Hendrie would cross a bit quicker, 3 times he's had good opportunities to pop the ball into the box but instead keeps going backwards... Can't see nothing more than than this finishing 5-1... Love my club to bits but starting to lose interest, rapidly tbh...😔😔

First two goals were down Waterfall's side, who is shocking when any team slide balls in on the floor. Third goal the cross should never have come in but Idehen should have fought harder to get in front of the strikers. Very easy to point the finger at Idehen and give Waterfall who is supposed to be the talker and senior pro at the back a free ride. Exeter are streets ahead of us with the ball. Know their next pass, great shape and movement. We just work hard without any nous or composure..

Waterfall is being pulled from pillar to post because the rest of the defence are an absolute liability. The first goal was his header to win, yet two of his teammates inexplicably decided to leave their men and join him.

With a bit of investment they could be Championship. If we get anything from this celebrate If we don’t, so long as we show efforts can’t complain
Folks I am sorry to make the point again, but sometimes we have to accept that there is a team in the wrong league. This time it’s Exeter. They have the team to be top half of L1 hoping to go up to Championship. If we keep it to 1-3 well done.

There where times in that half when we needed to “keep us shape” but credit to Exeter for pulling an inexperienced side around when it mattered.
Not sure how we’re going to get back into this to be honest.

You don’t have to know much about league 2 to know that through the main body of the season Exeter will forever be the most effective and best side...until the playoffs.
We’ve literally ignored the fact they’re great going forward and been truly awful defensively...

You get your head sorted mate, I just watched the goal again, definitely Macca hesitating when he could easily have caught it. Feck me, even I could have caught it and I'm 74!

What’s happened to Montel Gibson?
Not featured since Tranmere....
Not saying he’s the answer but he does get in to some good positions in the box even if he’s not the best at putting the chances away

Who’s Holloway going to blame for this pasting then?

Have we had a week off since last Tuesday?
If they’ve done anything in training I’d love to know what...this looks awful. Zero shape, nobody seems to know where they’re playing, players looks to be searching for their man, not marking, letting folk run past us, nothing in midfield and just lacking quality all over...

Sick of paying £10 to watch us getting torn to bits by any half decent side. Naive in defence, naive in attacking and unforgivably naive selections. Idehen shouldn’t have been put under that pressure to perform when he’s obviously not ready. Green is blatantly not good enough yet we don’t name another striker on the bench? Unacceptable.

Once again you single out Matt Green. He has had no service, absolutely intercourse all tonight. We’ve been completely outthought and outnumbered in the middle, and defending, across all 4 of them has been awful. All the other strikers have shown nothing. Its ollies recruitment that is unacceptable

Not quite sure who could do better, given the budget and the current situation. I honestly think he has an eye on the next season(s), giving lots of experience to youth players ready for next year. He'll never admit it, but this season is a write-off.

Let’s keep it in perspective. There is nothing surprising about tonight.
They are a top 3 side and we are a bottom 10 side.
They play as a team. We rely solely on individuals.
We’re no better or worse than we were before kick off. And for anyone who wants to wail otherwise, I’d say you’ve not been watching us too closely this season so far.
We’re in a better position than when Jolley left and history should tell us all that swapping Holloway for A.N Other will not suddenly transform us.

We’re going to need a 3 more experienced players in jan to see us safe . We’ve got a couple of games in hand which may provide 3 points which may be important. Then we’ll see what happens in the summer which will clearly show our intentions.....

Think our so called supporters need to either grow up and get some proper judgement and get some understanding of the game.
Week after week we get trash from keyboard warriors. Earlier today I posted that Exeter are a good side. Nothing has changed.
Hoping for a better result on Saturday and won’t be surprised if we get at least a draw.

Not going to let that go.... no way can I accept that this team is better than any that Jolley put out. No way whatsoever

Not quite sure who could do better, given the budget and the current situation. I honestly think he has an eye on the next season(s), giving lots of experience to youth players ready for next year. He'll never admit it, but this season is a write-off.
What?...in the conference?..you cannot shy away from the fact that that's where we are heading in our current form!...at what point does Holloway put his hands up and admit, he's royally f@cked up and isn't good enough to leave his so called legacy at GTFC?...

Five goals in one game? Scored rather than conceded? Really I didn't know you could do that.

Once again you single out Matt Green. He has had no service, absolutely intercourse all tonight. We’ve been completely outthought and outnumbered in the middle, and defending, across all 4 of them has been awful. All the other strikers have shown nothing. Its ollies recruitment that is unacceptable
I thought you had enough sense to realise that you can't get every player who is at the top of your shopping list. There has to be many reasons Ollie couldn't get better players. The covid clause in the contracts for a start, clubs offering better contracts, wives not wanting to move to Grimsby, players not wanting to move to Grimsby. Players not willing to sell up and buy a house in the Grimsby area. I am sure there are many more reasons too, it's not a question of Ollie ringing someone up and saying you're coming to Grimsby! I would guess that the majority of the squad that we have were not on the top of his list.

Shockingly poor on the ball, can hardly recall 3 passes strung together 2nd half. No depth of quality in the squad and any quality at all is thin. Edwards for all his trickery had zero impact on the game.
The subs apart from Pollock made zero difference.
Looked very disorganised, disjointed and dissapointed.
Albeit Exeter looked the polar opposite of that....but we certainly helped them along the way.

Can’t accept that our squad is better than Jolley’s squad. Our summer recruitment policy is looking very flawed and a lot of that goes down to us being ‘well run’. I’d rather say that we were run down and have been for a very long time.
Anyone won the Euromillions?

Absolutely embarrassing performance, I could barely watch it. Things need to change and quickly as this team is so far off the pace it is unbelievable. Very disappointed Only positive to come from this are 1.we do not have to come home from the ground. 2.it would freeze in hell before I watch the iFollow of Colchester utm

Look no further than the boardroom. 16 years, 15 managers and counting, since we were challenging at the top end of League 2.
We have a poor squad and that's not completely down to the current incumbent.

Exeter are as good as your going to see in this league & it's not a shock to me but what is a shock is how defence get's left exposed time & again , take 3rd goal just for example that can't happen at any level

COVID clause fooked us. Cannot attract enough quality. What annoys me most of all is the poor distribution of the ball which almost always ends up with the opposition. Good job we won’t be playing Exeter every week as they are miles ahead of us. That said I do not think we are bad enough to go down

Really? Fair enough, it’s all about opinions, but from what I remember we were a painfully negative and uninspiring team that was only heading one way. I think the players were capable of more but Jolley had sucked the life out of them. I don’t think we’re much better now but we are better. We will get enough points from the the teams around us to be okay (Crawley for example) but that’s it. I’d be interested to know in what way you think we were better considering you think it so outrageous to suggest otherwise.

Even if we accept that Holloway's absolutely shite player purchases/signings are down to the budget (which I don't necessarily think they are) what has he actually done to get the best out of them and turn them into some sort of team however poor?
He's not up to the job, some of the better players (as opposed to the kids and those from the 7th or 8th tier) are not even on the bench and are clearly not playing for him, that is down to Holloway and no one else. He's out of his depth in the basement of the FL and the sooner he realises it the better.

I guess it’s still early days in the Holloway Project (that experimental Jazz collective - free form skat a speciality in post-match interviews).
Given that we’ve had 5 different managers so far in less than 5 seasons, and all records have been much the same (Hurst not here in L2 long enough) that must tell us something. We just keep moving the deckchairs. Until the glorious day we should just suck it up.

Think those rose tinted glasses need a clean ...11 goals conceded in 3 games and 2 scored.....we are not very good, not very good at all....yes, Exeter probably will go up, but we are heading one way, one way back into oblivion....that's the harsh reality of where we are....pains me to say it, but Jolley had more if clue than Holloway at times....

Don't we do anything on the training ground. Exeter rehearsed everything they did tonight in training and made it look so easy. The only thing we can have rehearsed is picking the ball out of the net Actually we are not going to get any worse because that's an impossibility. They could so easily have doubled their 4 goals.

The Crawley win changed nowt, just gave us false hope - it happens half a dozen times every season. Promise much one match and total shite again the next five
Did it promise much? I don’t think so. We ground out a win with a couple of decent goals, we hardly overran them. You’re right about it changing nowt. Just like tonight. As several have already said, we are what we are. Change on the managerial front won’t alter that.

Its pretty clear we have no idea what to do out of possession , ball watching , ball chasing , reacting not anticipating. 11 individuals all acting and moving of their own accord. The shape looks lopsided which has hindered us.
Some positives going forward but absolute schoolboy defending is letting us down.
That’s Town in a nutshell, no shape no method harum scarum pinball stuff ffs

Exeter have realised they can't rely on their fanbase to fund success and have focused on stability and producing their own players, who they have then sold on for millions. It's what I think Ollie is trying to do here and what has been proven to work elsewhere.

Quite happy to defend my position and of course I respect yours too CM ( that's why no x ) Here's a link to the start of last season under Jolley https://www.soccerbase.com/teams/team.sd?team_id=1148&teamTabs=resultsErratic I would agree (especially in the October) but there were some good results prior to that Apart from a few unexpected away wins this season, we've simply flattered to deceive It's all about opinions of course but I really can't accept that the squad we have assembled this season are anywhere near as competent as what we had at the time of Jolley's departure Anyway, onwards and upwards... hopefully that's what it will be and not onwards and downwards

You don’t have to know much about league 2 to know that through the main body of the season Exeter will forever be the most effective and best side...until the playoffs.
We’ve literally ignored the fact they’re great going forward and been truly awful defensively...
Think Olly thought we’d score more than they them lol!

We haven’t had time apparently. Frankly, we’re undercooked (now watching Masterchef) every time we play. Several summer signings aren’t now even getting in the 18. What does that tell you? We went shopping in Poundland and got the half price bargains.

It might not have promised that much but overnight the criticism of Holloway as seen after Tranmere suddenly disappeared To many he was the Messiah again and we were on the up Strange how we are supposed to be optimistic and full of praise after a 2-1 win but aren't allowed to be pessimistic or critical after a 0-5 stuffing and a 1-4 hammering As for changing the manager, however poor his player selection / signings were and however bad Covid affected things he has shown no sign of creating some sort of team however poor from the dross he put together. Some of the more promising players won't perform for him. He offers nothing but bullshit I don't think there was any lack of effort from the players tonight. The team Holloway signed and put out was simply not good enough, clueless and poor. Holloway has done nowt to fashion any sort of team

Currently the side lacks a “get it to him” player, the “him” is a player who will pose a goal threat and if not threatening the goal just holding the ball up or getting in the right spaces when as we did tonight we get in behind the opposition. It’s not going to get fixed for a few weeks yet I’m afraid, if at all this season.
What concerns me most is that given he’s always going on about lack of player availability you’d expect us to work on being solid and structured for the time being until he can have better players available.
Like I say this ain’t getting fixed for a while and it’s going to be a bumpy ride for now.

Dont matter what they do on the training ground, clearly this lot are not any way near good enough to do the basics let alone play to a plan . This is Ollie`s fault . i am glad he is not a car mechanic as he would have bought a saw and nail gun to work with..this lot he got in are 6/7 tier players not lg 2 players and wont be for years if at all

Not going to let that go.... no way can I accept that this team is better than any that Jolley put out. No way whatsoever
Why did we get rid of him then? And now after 6 months people are calling for Holloway’s head. I really feel the constant merry-go-round of managers hasn’t done the club any favours. Pick a manager and give him enough time to actually try and build something. Give the team some continuity, bring younger players through gradually, get the team used to the manager’s tactics. You never know, it could actually work.

Quite happy to defend my position and respect yours too CM ( that's why no x ) Here's a link to the start of last season under Jolley https://www.soccerbase.com/teams/team.sd?team_id=1148&teamTabs=resultsErratic I would agree (especially in the October) but there were some good results prior to that Apart from a few unexpected away wins this season, we've simply flattered to deceive It's all about opinions of course but I really can't accept that the squad we have assembled this season are anywhere near as competent as what we had at the time of Jolley's departure Anyway, onwards and upwards... hopefully that's what it will be and not onwards and downwards
I went to watch us at Cheltenham under Jolley when we lost 3-1 (if memory serves). We played well and, unusually for me, I emailed him directly after thanking him for bringing a bit of joy back to watching Town in what I thought had been a really promising display. By the time he left I could barely be arsed to sit and watch us play we’d become so negative and terrified of the football. I don’t see that mindset with this current group, and whilst it’s not much to cling on to, it’s all I’ve got right now! I did say to my old man earlier in the season (really old, so can’t work the tech to watch!) that I thought we had better footballers than under Jolley (Rose, Scannell, Edwards) and I think I’d still stick to that. Not sure there’s anyone we released who you can say we’re desperately missing. IMHO of course

Nobody understands the manager's tactics and that includes the manager, he's out of his depth.

A keeper who commands his box would be a start
That’ll be the same keeper who kept us in it early doors almost single-handedly? I appreciate McKeown has flaws but to have a pop at him based on tonight’s game seems pretty desperate. The other end of the pitch is far more of a concern.

We're not going to score 5 if that's what you mean. Not letting in 4 might make things a little less difficult up front

The thing with good sides who are playing well and full of confidence is that they make you look terrible. They find space easily, they open you up, they have you on the back foot and it leads to the poorer side making increasingly poor decisions and losing shape.
They won 3-1 at Gillingham on Saturday and 6-1 the game before. They are clearly at the top of their game at the moment. Let's hope we can start to move in that direction given time. Exeter have been developing that squad for years.

Eh? I mean we need a striker (or two) far more than we need a new keeper. Pretty obvious I would have thought. A creative midfielder with an eye for a pass to go with them would be good. But hey, let’s spin the narrative that the four goals tonight were McKeown’s fault.

Sorry but did we all miss a 2-1 win against in form Crawley only last week.

For some on here it’s time to take a break and get some perspective. Except Swin, he gets off on spinning his web of negativity. When Town are doing well you never hear from him. But when results are poor he never shuts up. Holloway inherited a crap situation and as time has passed that situation has got even crapper. COVID has knocked the stuffing out of the club. But at least we still have a club!! Football is spectator sport and footballers feed off the positivety. Most of these players have never been “supported” during a Town game. They can’t even see who they are playing for. Over the years I’ve been unforgiving of the dross we have had to put up with under the Fenty nightmare. But If we survive this season both on and off the pitch I’ll gladly take that and if Holloway wants to stay I’ll gladly accept that as well. Under these truely unprecedented times this club desperately needs some stability. For those of us who can’t wait for success then it may be time to take a break in order to see the bigger picture.

Let’s hope we do survive as a Football League club. Perhaps then we might finally realise that our current ‘stability’ is why we’re so desperatelyfucked that no one wants to invest a penny in Grimsby Town.

The crawley win didnt make us a promotion prospect and a 4.1 defeat to an excellent exeter doesnt make us relegation certainties. Please try and keep a sense of balance folks Holloway has basically admitted he got it wrong in the summer and he will be making changes in january. We are only a month away from the window opening and we are not in the bottom 2, it's not as if we are cut adrift and completely hopeless (crawley proves that) Yes there are more lows than highs , but like many have said we are not getting anywhere by constantly changing managers. Just take a deep breath and try to get a sense of balance

I don’t see anyone wanting to change the manager. All the past few months proves is that you can have the best manager available- we probably do- but the same problem continues. If that doesn’t tell you something I don’t know what will.

There are people calling for Holloway’s head but not many OC.
Apart from that One thing you and Forza Ivano, and me come to that, are on the same page. 5 managers in just over 4 years, same results.

Quick question for everyone saying this season is just about surviving - what sort of base does that build for next season?
Say we carry on as we have the first 13 games of the season and end up with 12/13 wins and finish up lower end of the table, how does that bode for the following season? We’ll have a squad of 7 contracted players plus Sam Russell, and will be going into next year off the back of 5 consecutive poor seasons (14th, 18th, 18th, 15th, then probably about the same again), no money from any cup runs and hoping that season ticket holders stump up again despite being taken for a ride this year.
Just seems like year after year of building and rebuilding on the same poor foundations.

I thought we competed well at times, and for 10-15 mins after we scored we looked good. Exeter are a very good side and are scoring goals for fun, but that apart from that all four goals were down to defensive lapses and could/should have been prevented. We need a couple of experienced defenders, someone in midfield to control games, we have no-one to create chances, and an experienced head or two up front. However, there are a lot of the squad who are just not of the required standard. How can we go from a good performance one week to this in a week with virtually the same team.
another difficult game on saturday, onward and upwards.

Did anyone else think olly actually looked defeated in his interview. To me he actually looked like he was almost at the end of his tether. First time ive felt he looked really down. Lets get behind the lads. Weve been much worse off than this. Realistically as supporters what can we do but wait for good days. Town fans have always had a roller coaster ride. The uncertainty is part of the fun. UTM 😊😊😊

I think you'll find that we didn't "get rid of him" Jolley walked Before he was pushed maybe but........ he was not sacked!! Maybe need to get your facts right Who though (other than Jolley himself) knows the full story behind his departure.... JF, JT, RH?? He left with a lot going on behind the scenes that's for sure and I'd say none of us will probably ever know for sure or ever find out what led to him deciding to leave the club

fluke, we also lost to Harrogate, and drew with the mighty Stevenage, so it depends on the level of shiteness, whether its Tier 1 Shite, Tier 2 Shite, or god forbid Tier 3 shite. For what its worth, imo we are probably Tier 2 shite, with a couple of others being Tier 3 shite, we can with a little luck move to Tier 1 Shite, and the other Tier 2 shite

In 2009/10, we beat Bournemouth who finished second, we also drew twice with the mighty Morecombe who finished 4th. And we all know what happened that season The odd good game doesn't really make up for the dross ones. IH will have to improve this squad in January or I think we will really struggle.

Seems odd though doesn’t it.
We bleated on, and continue to do so about the importance of penny pinching to simply exist. We caused our own problems in the summer, then, because of financial constraints imposed on ourselves, by ourselves we ended up with players we didn’t really want or would’ve looked at ordinarily. We’ve a big squad now that lacks much quality, we’ve still got injuries and now we’re saying we need to rebuild at the mid point of the season.
So being frugal hasn’t really been achieved and if it has it’s been counterproductive. What’s the saying? Buy cheap, buy twice?
I think Holloway is struggling, which is understandable given the situation but even the interview snippet they played before the game he moaned about Covid and not being able to sit with the whole squad and so on. Just seems excuse after excuse and deflecting anything away rather than addressing things or being honest.
One thing he was, always, was positive but now he seems downtrodden and defeatist. That isn’t just because of a few folks online...

We have the basis of a good team that maybe 2 new players may get us firing. Exeter were are very good team, as good as anything we seen in league 2 for a while and will go up for me.
IH is clearly trying to build something with bringing in youth and also promoting from within, some fans on here really need to go supporting a prem team if its instant success they are after. we aint got the cash for that.
He will get it right eventualy and that im confident with, he said we have the best fans but we also have a load of muppets that moan like intercourse that probably do support a prem team as well as claiming to support town.
We need this manager to have a few years at the club, yes there will be bad times but there will be good times too. we wont get relegated so if we finish bottom half so be it, he keeps the cream of what he has then goes again.

I don’t disagree and it’s no coincidence that the only success since Buckley came when we kept the manager for more than 5 minutes. I don’t think anyone wants Holloway to go but it would be foolish not to be concerned at our current plight. For me, we’re very much staring at relegation at present, something which simply can’t afford to happen again. We should’ve learned our lessons and ensured that it’s unlikely to happen again and we’ll do everything we can to avoid it. Sadly I don’t see that as the case and supported by the narrative from the club, our mere existence is apparently enough. Nobody wants instant success but surely supporting a club also suggest fans want at least some progress or ideas moving forward. Exeter are great but likely intercourse it up in the play offs again, but the way teams dismantle us is concerning and after the subs last night Davis spent 5 minutes sorting the ‘shape’ and it was almost utter confusion on the pitch. We’ve shown glimmers of being able to play well and get results. I guess that’s why fans get frustrated. We take Cheltenham apart yet capitulate all too often.

I've slept on this to try and give a reasoned view, but I really can't defend this dire rubbish. Up to 11 not too bad, then all our weaknesses came to light again and we were soundly thrashed. To ship this many goals is appalling and indefensible. Time for a clear out of manager and players.

Firstly I refer you to my comment after the Crawley win and secondly doing well is such a rare occurrance anyway that it is hardly surprising I don't celebrate our outstanding performances very often Please explain how the Tranmere Exeter Hull and other games give reason for positivity

We are a bottom five team no doubt , we have a keeper who doesn’t command his box centre backs who have no positional sense and no pace , midfielders who can’t pass a ball causing no ball retention and strikers who dont score much ... like Holloway said in his interview we have no spine and needs to add 3 at least proven pros in all three areas , but he’s already said nobody will come to Grimsby ? Can only hope a couple are worse than us

So,, We go from My phone is melting from players wanting to come play for him . To no one wants to come here.. Well what he realy ment as we have found out, is the people melting his phone was just other managers trying to off load what was not to there standard . Now Ollie has to do the same so we can get some better players in

Few things that are becoming quite clear I feel.
We're missing Limbrick. Post-Jolley he was the man who got the confidence and shape back into the team. It wasn't pretty but what he did was essential to allow Holloway to build on and allow us to have a bit more spark. Like it or not, we've got rid of a good coach and not replaced him. Our already limited coaching resource has been halved. Our actual dedicated coaching staff is now Ben Davies, who I'm sure is very good but he's still cutting his teeth. Can't get away with that.
You can't have your No 2 goalkeeper as your goalkeeping coach. McKeown made some smart saves but he's way off the top of his game. Way off this season. He needs a genuine challenge for that shirt.
Our left side was too weak and inexperienced. Playing Idehen and Preston as the left-hand side of defence is a disaster in waiting. Even bigger problems when their protection comes from a guy who's natural game is anything but defending (Edwards).
The defence isn't working. Whatever's going on in there I don't know but it needs sorting. Absolute basic errors cost us all 4 goals last night. Doesn't seem to be any leadership or communication going on. Most frustrating is the lack of anger from any of them when there is a balls up.
I actually thought we knocked it about well last night, but lacked a real cutting edge. Both Scannell and Edwards were dangerous and for his critics, I thought Green did ok. Lack of service but he put himself about a bit. We still need better though.
Chronic lack of support from the midfield. Hewitt and Rose both wanted to sit deep, Clifton didn't stop running and he tried to run beyond the strikers but didn't do it enough. Double edged sword as the ball doesn't get held up. Quite a few occasions either Edwards or Scannell got into decent crossing positions but there was no-one bombing into the box. The only time I recall it happening we ended up scoring.
What's happened with Williams and Gibson? I've seen nothing to say they're injured. Also Wright and Tilley? Which begs the other question, why are we picking up so many knocks all the time. Holloway can't blame the schedule as he's got a massive squad which he's rotated endlessly. It's not a popular view but something isn't right with how we're set up for injury prevention/management. For years we've picked up niggles galore. We either sign broken players or we break them. This goes back years, remember the club playing Adrian Forbes with a broken leg? Fundamentally something isn't right with the club in this regards. It doesn't matter who we sign, until we address this issue we'll never move forward.

UTM 😊😊😊
I thought he was subdued. Less lively and less BS.

Can only hope a couple are worse than us
Has he said nobody will come to Grimsby? If he has, I think what he is really saying is that nobody will come for the money we pay (we need to pay a premium to get players in demand) and when they see us in our present dire situation season after season. Ollie knows this is a long term project. It has to be; you cannot turn round this level of mismanagement within a season or two. We have to build steadily to get a team to be proud of, even if it means adding just a couple of decent players at each window. I hope he stays and starts to turn things around; the club is a shambles from top to bottom - somebody said in another post about players always injured, players signed never fit, never enough backroom staff to help out and all this is dictated by one stubborn owner who has the vision of a short-sighted gnat, who is completely unable to generate any further income or investment in the club that he is in sole charge of. I wish Ollie well; if he can prise the club away, even partly from Fenty's vice like grip it would be a start.

I accept that Jolley's last month (October 2019) was a bit tedious but before then I wasn't really dissatisfied with the way we played - remember Walsall (A), Port Vale (H) and Exeter ( A) all came not that long before Jolley left It's all about opinions of course but to my mind it wasn't all doom and gloom As for the individuals you mention Rose v Hessenthaler Scannell v Robson Edwards v Hanson ( because he was fit and playing well before Jolley walked ) I think we'll just have to agree to disagree I've seen the odd game under Holloway where we've done well but there have been some bad ones too... the same as it was under Jolley for me Time will tell if Town go forward from here but I have reservations.... doesn't mean I don't support what Ollie is hoping to achieve but I do question whether what he wants from our squad will be realised UTM

Same old blah blah blah bull excrement, I would like a team that doesn't seem to struggle in the lower reaches of the 4th Division.

I believe that the longer term ambition of the club is to bring through a number of players from our youth system and Ollie speaks highly about a number of these lads including some who are 15 & 16 years old.
This is a strategy many of us have been crying out for, many a day spent living in hope that the success of the mid seventies to mid eighties can be recreated. The issue is that these youngsters need experience around them and the mistakes Ollie has made, IMO, is recruiting too many youngsters in the close season when we are actually selecting a number of our own in preference to them. Edwards, Taylor and Preston would have been sufficient young unproven talent in the summer and some of the other additions like Gomis and Morton are not required. Similarly it’s looking like some of those signed from non-league have not been able to meet the standards required and given we can’t score goals regularly I am expecting Sisay and Jackson Jnr to move on. Stokes will see the season out but signs are he won’t make the step up.
The big disappointment is that two of his more experienced signings Moshni and Bennett have not worked out and for us to progress as a club, whilst blooding our own youngsters, we need to sign better quality experienced players starting in January.
In the meantime I would consider playing Hewitt and Hendrie as full backs to add that experience at the back and hopefully leave our left flank a little less exposed. Hanson and Tilley back might help in the short term but in reality we need better players to support Rose in the middle and to add regular goals.

Only saw the 2nd half as forgot we were even playing on Tuesday, shows how my interest is diminishing with more turgid form and lack of being able to go to games. What I saw looked decent for 20 mins but still no cutting edge and woeful defending. Need an experienced version of Idehen and big strong/quick player up front and get rid of all but Edwards, Preston, and Windsor out of the loanees. The rest should sort itself out.

I thought we played quite well. Can't see what all the fuss is about. With pollock on the field and abit of prowess in front of goal, we'd have got something from the game We've got nobody who's going to score. You can't keep playing a striker who moves like a pensioner, has offered very little for 18months, keep defending him and expect to score goals and win games. I don't get it. He should have been gone long before Holloway took charge We play Windsor no matter what, we sign a goalscorer that makes your pubic hair stand up, somebody like bowman at the very least, play our best team and we start to win games imo
We looked like crap before we'd kicked a ball this season and everybody agreed it was all about survival. Ever since, everybody expects us to be mid table Tranmere was unacceptable. Even then, when we're waltzing onto the field at five past three, it's obvious things weren't going to go our way Anybody else listen to the tranmere commentary - They didn't think much to our two defenders and their lack of moveability. Their man manny monthe looked the part

| Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong Update: I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly |
