I'm old enough to remember proper Humber derby games back in the day. Scunthorpe and Lincoln games had nothing on them, going over on the old paddle steamers, happy days.

Until they were gifted a brand new stadium they were struggling more than us. They were bankrupt,  with the gates to their training ground pandlocked. They had to train in the local park

When we reached Wembley the first time, Hull firm Dixon Motors became our new shirt sponsors for that game. I well remember the outcry from the north bank about not looking after their local struggling club.

Until the KC was built, they were in the fourth tier of the football league with little hope, while we were in the top half of the second tier, looking to relocate to Great Coates.

Tale of the two stadiums was the turning point. Would love to be able to go to a Humber bank derby game again. I am also sick of Burnsy's drooling over the tigers while he looks down his nose at us forgetting what has gone on.

Unfortunately we never had access to money from a flotation of a telephone business and we never had an Adam Pearson With the contacts and ability to raise cash.

Not strictly true. Paul Dixon was born in Hull. He set up his first car dealership in Grimsby in 1973. And Dixon Motors actually had its headquarters in Doncaster.

Hull 1 down at Wigan after less than 2 minutes

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”
