Great win for us today.

When was the last time we were above Scunthorpe in the league ?

One for the stats.

About 2004?

Yep, would’ve been the final game of the 2003/4 season, in which we were relegated at Tranmere.

Over the past four or five seasons, Scunny have spent roughly a 3x multiple versus us on player wages (before even factoring in transfer fees) yet find themselves below us. Just let that sink in.

However temporary it may be, I find that quite hilarious and a measure of the calamitous way the club has been managed.

You need to spend a lot in League 1 to be fair. I think they are well managed on the whole, but to panic and sack the current Salford manager was their undoing.

Hurst has already remarked on the Scunts questioning his substitution choice and the Scunts are already moaning at their style of play, break them agent Hurst, take them back to the bottom feeders they are, Swann has already had a belly full of bailing out excrement crowds and listening to their couple of hundred fans whine.

Scunthorpe you have been spoiled and now Hurst is there to restore balance, lets hope you drop through the trap door, you deserve it you dirty Scunts.

Although I'm having a good laugh at them, it's probably time to give them a break, after all they support scunny, are bottom of the league, have Swann as a chairman, Hurst is their manager, gosh they are suffering, but there again it is scunny so sod em, let's hope they cannot even win the toss of the coin this season and plunge into the depths of the conference.

Swann is renowned for not having much patience in managers so Hurst will soon be under suffocating pressure if they don't get some wins quickly, and then where would Hurst be? Less than 18 months ago he was cream of the crop but 2 sackings in less than a year will seriously damage his stock

Just seen the Cheltenham goals. Scunthorpe defence has lots of lumbering overweight defenders who will be taken apart by better quick teams

Trying not to gloat at the moment as its too early in the season....i just hope they are still there in May when gloating really counts.

Swann is renowned for not having much patience in managers so Hurst will soon be under suffocating pressure if they don't get some wins quickly, and then where would Hurst be? Less than 18 months ago he was cream of the crop but 2 sackings in less than a year will seriously damage his stock

Maybe Hurst and Slade should form a manager double act

Yes I’d agree, especially when MW asked him about bringing players in, feels like Swann has closed his wallet.

And if they do drop through the trapdoor they will have to earn the right to play in the league unlike last time when we stupidly voted them in.

I use https://imgur.com

1. Register an account which is free
2. Find image/gif you want to post, right click on that image/gif and save it to pictures folder on your pc.
3. Go to your imgur account, top right of the website and upload image, a dialogue box will open and find the file on your pc and click it, this will upoload it to your imgur account.
4. The go to images uploaded and select the gif/image and highlight BBcode on the right of the image and paste that on to your post.

So BBCode-[img]https://i.imgur.com/ QFwCKVV.gif[/img]

gives you

Well, listening to Hurst I couldn't tell the difference from when he was our manager and we'd won, both interviews were dull and his tone was dire. Bet when he was a kid on Christmas morning and he was opening his presents he was a real bundle of joy(not).

I just wonder if the Scunny fans are feeling ‘spoilt’ right now 😉

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

For a laugh I thought I'd have a quick gander at their misery on one of their message boards, the links on the club links page it shows links but when you click on them there is no Scunt message board, anybody got a link that works or have all the Scunts crawled back under their rocks.

I've heard this too but I wouldn't take too much notice of this as it came with Slade taking over Hurst when it does happen, we can only wish for that as a Christmas present.

However, I've heard from a more reliable Scunt, Hurst will be given up to Christmas as he is known for slow starts and climbs up the table slowly, remember Hurst is a percentage manager, some results will go his way as they often did with us and they'll sadly slowly climb out of the drop zone. I hope they drop into the abyss never to reappear, the most sour faced and bitterest fans ever to mouth breath on the football league, fcuk them.

I’m honestly ambivalent towards Hurst nowadays, but part of me hopes that he makes it until Christmas (or 21st December to be precise). That game has the potential for one of the spiciest atmospheres we’ve seen at Blundell Park in many a year.

You have to admit though that it’s not looking good for him right now. Four defeats and one draw from his first five competitive games, bottom of the league, a chairman who is on his sixth manager in three years and presumably a top 3-5 budget doesn’t look like a recipe for long-term employment.

After the way things went at Ipswich and now the start he’s had at Scunny, even a man famed for his unwillingness to admit error must be feeling just a touch of self-doubt, surely?

That WBA game was electric. The place was just fizzing. I’m trying to work out if I can be home for the Scunny game, hope so.

It was like a dam bursting when Ivano belted it in.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.

Been going since 90/91 and that game and Fulham in the playoffs in 98 are the best two atmospheres I've experienced at Blundell Park.

This time last season whenever we had a thread about Lincoln they would be on here putting us right about how great and massive they were, but upto now I don't think any scunny fan has been on the Fishy explaining their side of the discussion, and to be honest I am missing them, be great to have someone to take the absolute urine out off.

Scunts add nothing to any message board but spite, I'm glad they've all crawled back under their rocks, hopefully never to be heard of again.

5-2 to Town

Dirty Scunts lose to the Macc lads and are firmly rooted to the door to the abyss. Keep up the great work agent Hurst

It's that time on Saturday evening to bump this thread back up, but the way things are going Town will be out of sight by Christmas so I think we need to re-title it to " scunny are still bottom of the league"

I've already said on here I normally boycott the EFL Trophy games but I will be at the game Tuesday (for one game only) to see Hurst back at BP.

Given their league position it could be an interesting evening

PP, suggestion, save your dosh and a couple of precious hours on Tuesday for later in the season when it's the important league game at BP, by then though the scunny away numbers will probably be around 200, so a suggestion to the club, shove the scunny fans in the corner of the Osmond and let us also have behind the goal, BP will be rocking by then.

Around 200, your not expecting the Scunts to be top of league are you with those numbers

The thing is that he just does not seem to learn does he? Nearly every game has been the same for them, opponents park the bus and he doesn’t have a clue how to beat it. How many times did Town fans see games like that?

Waiting until Christmas is probably something not on Peter Swann’s to do list. They have two winnable looking home games coming up against Morecambe and Oldham - I should think that he has to win one of them.

As he pointed out in his interview, they have a squad capable of doing alright in this league. Six defeats and a draw in seven suggests things aren’t so hunky dory behind the scenes.

Swann has a lot to answer for here I think, I recall that they where in a good place in terms of league position and stability when he sacked Alexander who is a relatively competent and possibly the best they’d had since Adkins. In addition to having an itchy trigger finger he’s a complete self publicist.

I take no pleasure in seeing clubs relegated to non league as I know what it feels like for the supporters, this season I might make an exception.

I see one of the most popular threads on the Scunny fans forum today is "Sack the manager"

I think we should all join the scunny thread and insist that Hurst keeps his job for as long as possible, "agent Hurst" is working just fine.

Things clearly not all happy families at Scunny. Hurst has tried to move the likes of Kevin Van Veen and Adam Hammill on to no avail - both remain at the club with Hammill completely excluded from the squad.

Now it appears their centre half and recent Hurst signing Kgosi Ntlhe was involved in an assault which left Danny Drinkwater badly injured last weekend:

https://talksport.com/football/598650/danny-drinkwater-burnley-sean-dyche/

They probably have a better squad in general, but already there appear to be signs reminiscent of our disastrous 2009-10 campaign. I can see some seriously dark times ahead for Scunny, and that’s before we even touch on their precarious financial position.

Hurst is the ideal candidate to manage scunny if they go down, he's got 6 years experience of the conference and will be successful, eventually.

This is fascinating. Losing £90k a month. £9m in debt. Paying interest to Swann on his loans.

Wow!  And I really do mean that, WOW!!  Incredible numbers they're talking there.  £3K/week average last year, and it might not be much less than that even now.  Makes GTFC seem almost sane in comparison.  God, I hope we're not paying Hanson et al over the odds like Scunthorpe do with their new recruits every season.......

Might explain their summer signings or lack of. Hurst has made a massive mistake here. His turnaround at Shrewsbury was down to getting rid and bringing his own team in. He's now stuck with a load of players who he appears to be falling out with and no access to budget. Much the same as Ipswich. His next appointment will be non-league.

At one stage they were paying Swanns' company £4,000 a week interest on the loans from his company. Maybe the " benign loans " from JF don't look so bad after all and as far as I know the club doesn't pay interest on them.

I don't get that either as Sampson has been the coach since July and surely part of the problem?

Compared to some clubs we're looking quite stable at the moment.

Those figures are absolutely staggering at scunny - 9 mill in debt and blowing 4k a week on interest, to be bottom of the league! If they go down this year could  be curtains for them.
Who is the director getting paid 190k a year - more than Danny Cowley is on for utterly transforming Lincoln in 3 years, winning at Wembley and beating a prem club isn't it?

The pressure on Hurst is even greater than I thought - surely swan can't afford anything other than promotion back to league 1 and the tv money that at least keeps their losses down to 5 figures each week!!!

I think you're right that the club doesn't pay Fenty interest

Fenty is a fan of the club and therefore doesn’t view us a golden goose and really does want the best for us (hence his loans are interest free and benign). There’s never been any suggestion of ulterior motives with JF. The exact opposite is true of Swann, I’m happy we’re not in that situation to say the least.

I don't know how you know what Swann's motives are. Maybe you could share your source with us. There doesn't seem to be any prospect of him getting his money back from Scunny. That article hinted at some tax benefit for the Swann company that made the loan but that would only be tax relief on £4m (I think it mentioned) of the loans, so a fraction of what he's put in to Scunny. It's possible he is in it for the kudos, which could be viewed as 'an ulterior motive'.

As for JF not having ulterior motives. Again, same standards apply. How do you know? I don't think he's in it for the money. But it's possible there would be some kudos/ego involved. Which is understandable, many of us fancy the idea of being the 'saviour' of or having control over our own football club (having long since given up on fantasies of playing for, or even managing )

They have done a similar breakdown of GTFC.

http://priceoffootball.com/tag/grimsby/

Had to laugh at their visit to Cleethorpes and an offer by a "lady" of a romantic encounter behind a skip!!

We are comparatively financially stable compared to some teams mentioned. Credit to JF for that.

What I meant is you can be sure Fenty’s motives are purely for the benefit of the club, whereas you can’t have the same certainty about Swann. He’s probably not up to anything but given he’s apparently been sniffing round at Blackpool and is more interested in horse racing, his heart may well never truly be in it. Which is more precarious for Scunny.

But surely if the loan is to a company that Swann owns ( Coolsilk ) then in the event of the club folding Swann will still get his money back because Coolsilk is a creditor to the club? I must admit I know very little about the world of finance but that is how it seems to me.
As far as the " kudos " aspect is concerned I'm not too sure about that either. Didn't he try to develop Gainsborough with a " vision for the future " but when things didn't work to plan he jumped ship? Even the fact that Scunnie receive money from a hotel he is involved with due to naming rights shows a degree of " feathering his nest ". I get the impression that he is a bit of a chancer and now that our Ferrous Friends are at the bottom of the Football League then I wouldn't be surprised if he " jumped ship " again.

I like that. 'Ferrous Friends".

Coolsilk are not a football creditor though so the chances of them getting anything will be affected by how much Scunny owe in transfer fees (not a lot I'd expect, but when push comes to shove and there's no cash...) and players' wages (which could be considerable if they start to fall behind.

With regard to the naming rights, that's money out from a Swann linked organisation to what benefit? Advertising. Not really feathering his nest.

The fact he jumed ship from Gainsborough to go to Scunny doesn't mean he's not after kudos - could be it's just more kudos running Scunny.

Anyway, I'm not here to defend Swann. I certainly wouldn't want Town to be in that situation, beholden to one man to that extent.

I somehow doubt that Glumford Park is very valuable, and so the club have little by way of assets to repay a £9mill debt. Hard to see Swann getting much of his money back if they went into administration.

The real question is how long will he continue to pour his cash down this particular drain? £90k a month. Wow, that's eye-watering. And it's not as if the investment is being rewarded on the pitch either.

Maybe Swann is waiting for that bit of football fortune to come along,

Swann maybe pouring cash in to keep the scunts alive as he gets that feel good factor, I mean walking round glumford park with all the scunts gurning at each other he must think to himself, I'm the most normal and handsome person here and bless them, the poor mutants, I'll pour money into their ickle club and they will worship me. Little does he know they already pray to a ferrous God whilst wafting around in methane, they love it.

Those are some staggering amounts of money to be losing for a club that barely averaged 4K attendances in L1! Surely the most likely club in our league to go bust?

I noticed on our Ferrous Friends website ( The Blast Furnace ) that one poster was hoping for a " bumper crowd of 4,800" for the home fixture against Bradford. Obviously expecting 3,000 travelling fans from Bradford!

After beating Exeter 3-1 last night, Scunthorpe have now scored twenty goals, the same as Town.

'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

Just to lighten the mood thought I'd bump this thread back up, we are in Mondays  draw and scunny ar'nt. The only worry is that they can now concentrate on the league whilst we're dreaming of Man U away.

Funny Jolley won’t be sacked specially we have made profit aswell, the board will see that is down to him, plus no one in the right mind would want to manage with us fans wanting them sack after 6 months, I feel relegation coming on very with all these sackings

Town are above Scunny
Not for much longer judging by today

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

For a start Jolley has had 18 months and all the players are is. He has had an excellent chance to do something in the game but I am not sure his strengths are in management. More boardroom than manager.

There would be plenty of managers out there who would want to manage Grimsby Town. The trick is picking the right one; not the one who gives the best interview, but the background checks, the style of football played and whether they can get a reasonable squad playing to their strengths.

The hardest part Lew is that most of us believe this squad is the best we've had for a long time, a squad he's put together which makes me think that MJ is a pretty decent judge of a player, better known in the trade as a scout, but as long as I've got a hole in my fat posterior he's not a manager....I saw it last year and I'm seeing it again this season...

Where did I say I wanted Paul Hurst sacked?

We went from like 11th place finish to 4th place finish in Hursts second full season, yes it stagnated later on but the Jolley is in his second full season and doesn't appear to be making equivalent progress.

Agreed it's a nonsense comparison, and stagnating in the playoffs still means being in the playoffs! (just saying)

My Fishy colleagues, its Saturday evening and once again time to bump this thread back up to the top again. As we speak we are still 1 point above them WITH 3 games in hand. After the shenanigans that have happened this week I only have 2 footballing wishes for this season now,1) we beat them both home and away, 2) we finish above them at the end. Simples.

We can't even win a game at the minute so don't count on it. Hurst will be dashing way past us cupping his ears all the way there.

Considering what budgets Scunny have had, this is no great shame. If anyone had said at the beginning of the season that Scunny wouldn't pass us until late November, we'd ALL have said 'no way'.

We're on a bad run so it's no surprise to see the likes of Denni pop his head up.

Bad run, we've imploded to the point our points haul over the last 6 games is 1 point (lost 5 drawn 1), Morecambe who are bottom of the league and 5 points behind, their points haul over the last 6 games is 4 points (lost 3, won 1 drawn 1). We need a new manager and the board should not be dragging their heels on this, Limbrick is showing he can't motivate the players enough over 90 minutes and as soon as we go a goal down we don't do come backs anymore. This is relegation form something we have experienced before, we are carrying too many players who are showing they just aren't good enough. Confidence may be low but if we had enough players with something about them, then confidence comes naturally, the low confidence may be that a few of them have realised that when the going is tough there is nowhere to hide and certainly at least half the first team have been found wanting.

A buffoonery trifecta that post.

1.  "A troll who pretends not to be a troll".  Merely pointing out that this thread has predictably blown up spectacularly in your faces.  What on earth are you twittering on about dear?

2.  "Go back to your sister".  Ah yes, the bizarre football imbecile's philosophy.  Anyone supporting a different local club to your own is incestuous.  And an additional digit on their hands.  As tedious and tiresome, as it is nonsensical.

3.  "Go back to your own board".  World Wide Web.  Read it out loud a few times sunshine, and let the words sink in.

We've given and taken a fair amount of banter and abuse over the years, funny how you should say that when your ironbru message board locks out the casual browser and prevents anyone other than a Scunt from having an account. Just like the gimps you can give it but can't take it so of you pop, one of the 5 villages that's makes up scunk town is missing you.

When the ironbru was accessible a few seasons ago there was no patter because fairy 64 just banned other teams fans so a bit hypocritical of you Scunt.

Unless we get something out of next Saturdays encounter it might be better to withdraw this thread.

Ok at the end of September, all was looking well, but in the intervening 11 weeks we seem to have scored just one league goal, which was against the team currently second bottom in the league.

Running out of grounds for optimism for playoffs, but you can never say never.
I did enjoy the 5 penalties v Macclesfield though in the League Cup.

You can indeed say that.  And you would be right Steffi, my Keyboard Warrior mate.  No need for us to go "face to face" on that one.

And I can say that Super Paul Hurst and his Claret and Blue Wizards are above Grimsby Town Football Club in the Football League.  As we have been for 15 years (and counting).

Did you struggle to get into Glumford park today, bet it was quite a crush squeezing all 3000 in, after 15 years of being above us why is your average this season nearly 1000 less then ours, it must be the fast flowing attacking football Hurst plays.

Ah, its gaffa-gape.  Where is this quote about me being GT till I die or something?  Or did you just get it spectacularly wrong?

I reckon the gates are probably something to do with GY / Clee being double the population of Scunthorpe.  Just call me Carol Vorderman, but I think it might be something to do with it.  Similar reason why the Targers smash your gates out of the water.  Hull is bigger than GY / Clee.

The only shark causing problems at town is fenty, Anyone that thinks that putting money in to a football club and getting it it back needs sectioning. Typical tory , chop the funding at the bottom and look after themselves. Cant wait for you to take your pretend bond car and 1962 roll neck sweaters and drive in to the sun set and never set foot in our club again

It's a marathon not a sprint, you never know under our new owner and new manager we could get a new striker who can score, and storm the league. There again we will more then likely have the same old owner, same old stand in manager and same old non scoring strikers.

Ok Stevie, we get it, you've had your gloat and that's understandable, but we didn't see you on here defending your team when they were rock bottom, now all of a sudden you can't stay away. We were the better side today, no question but hey ho, that's football and what goes around, comes around.

Ah, someone else who has a real interest in how I spend my time.  Quite flattering!  This thread was just hanging there like it was meant to be.  It would take a bigger man than me to ignore it, admittedly.

If you had Big Kev you might have won 1-0.  But you didn't.  And now its been zero days since we won a league match at Blunder instead of 6 decades....Nice one Fenty!

Yes Ralph, I feel your sexual tension towards me, but I am not going to be your Ted.

Van Veen's finishing was a well taken and what I would expect from a player who is being funded by Mrs Wilkinson through her husbands weekly allowance.

Wasn’t that “dominance” broken when you where knocked out of the FA Cup at home by a non league team in 2013?

Surely the measure of dominance is league position, and its been a decade and a half since you finished above the Claret and Blue Wizards.  A trifling cup match is neither here nor there surely Shirley?

Oh what fun it is to see The Iron win away, hey!

My memory is long enough to remember 15 years of league dominance.  I am merely stating this fact, sorry if it upsets you.

Oh what fun it is to see The Iron win away, hey!

Think you're right Stevie,  the strike was a great finish, he was the difference between the team's. I disagree that we " might have won 1-0 if we had him, I think you would have been well beaten but hey ho.  Also surprised he's at a small club and could perform at a higher level.  However, the man has no class at all as a person. He came off the pitch and though I hadn't said a word to him, shouted in my face "your team is excrement". Even you as an Iron supporter should find that unprofessional.

Adults can generally recall events from 3–4 years old, and have primarily experiential memories beginning around 4.7 years old.

So on that theory you are about 18 or 19 which would explain why you don't even know that Scumthorpe owe their league status to us, we voted you into the league you never earned the right to play in the football league, that is a sad fact for you, sad face.

I'd like you to come back with some facts, since we got you into the league how many seasons have Scumthorpe finished above Grimsby, how many seasons have the scunts spent in what is the Championship compared to Town. I won't hold my breath.

Who is going to fund the Scunts when Mrs Wilkinson is fed up of her husband wasting her money.

I know its 15 years since you finished above us.  I can't be bothered to research the points you make - When I started following the Iron in 87, we were the poor relations.  And now, we are not.  Its not a blip.

Its not got much to do with Wilko's / Swanny, Steve Wharton had us sailing nicely along prior to their arrival.  Still, if you want to paint us as some Oil-money type nkotb, crack on if it makes you feel better.

Thanks for keeping this trending as instructed.

I'm sure all he heard prior to giving a bit back was 'jolly well played Kevin'.   .  I'd wager a quid to a pinch of dust he got more than he gave yesterday.

I never have a problem with players giving it some back - Billy Sharp got some stick from some clowns when he came back to Scunny with Donny - the same clowns were than up in arms when he gave them some after planting an inevitable winner in the onion bag.

Quite embarrassing asking the moderator to close this down.
I'd have at look at the site rules here https://forum.thefishy.co.uk/Blah.pl?m-1377632884/ & maybe reflect on those.

Listening  between the lines to Hurst on RH last night I’d suggest Von Veen would be looking for a move if he gets to 20 goals this term. He’s clearly half decent but if reports are to be believed high maintenance like Hamill and the other kid who’s sat rotting in the EFL Trophy squad, I guess that’s what you get when you overpay reasonable lower league players to stay plying their trade in crummy backwaters.

I don't need to do anything to make me feel better as I feel great, I don't feel sad or lonely enough to go on a rivals board touting for friends, unlike you sad sacks. So sad you don't even see what is right in front of you.

A bit rich then Scunt, quoting facts that only portray you in a good light rather than the truth, we've only dropped like a stone since the current board have held onto the club like a limpet, other than that Scumthorpe was were players and managers we either didn't want or they needed game time went, Scunthorpe has always been the grave yard of Lincs, the place even stinks like rotting corpses.

There's no oil money, but to make out you are operating within your means is ridiculous, the minute Swanny and uncle Steve call it a day you are fcuked. Stick your head between your legs and kiss your bottom goodbye.

Time for the weekly bump of this, which is course 'The Jewel In The Fishy's Crown' no less.

GT have managed to not lose, and also not to score nil, a rare and relatively positive achievement of course for the (once almost) Mighty Mariners.

But alas, the title of this thread remains 100% incorrect, just as it has for decade and a half, as Paul Hursts Claret and Blue Wizards continue their dominance over their (former) rivals, even allowing for a 2-0 home smash and grab Xmas stuffing by the pretend Brummies.

The recently non-league Grimsby supporters remain stiff-necked (some more than others eh 'Grasserz Fun Pub' my mate?) from gazing longingly (for 15 years and counting) up the League Pyramid, at The Iron and their relatively dizzying high league position,
