Surely a player would be asked about any impending criminal investigation as a matter of routine when signing, if not they flipping well should be and it's a schoolboy error. You have to sign for such a thing when purchasing insurance for example.

I don't know what sort of jobs you go for, but it's never a question I've been asked.

Been asked it a couple of times when I've been in a job when security clearance was required for some project or other. But never before appointment.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

I'm quite shocked to hear about this, he seemed the consummate pro and a generally good guy and family man.

Without knowing the finer details perhaps excess alcohol caused him to act out of character but that's no excuse, one shouldn't allow themself to ever be so out of control to act in such a manner.

In vino veritas.

It's claimed that Stalin used to like his underlings to get sloshed so he could find out what they really thought.

Think he was the getaway driver. One of the other gang members played for Croydon Athletic. At the time me and a couple of mates went to watch Croydon play and my mate who used to produce the programme or something was told that said player hadn't turned up that day because he'd had his collar felt. Real life seems to intrude a lot more at that level of football.

I don't think anyone would ask a player specifically if he's facing charges of assault when they're looking to sign him. But, just like in 'regular' employment processes, I'd imagine the club would ask if he has a criminal record, or if he's currently facing trial for any criminal activity.

Pretty standard stuff. Usually gets ticked off pretty quickly with a 'no'.
