We can't defend, we can't score....2 wins from the last 16 at BP.......where do we go from here because I really haven't got a clue ?

We've been in trouble for over a decade and it's getting to the point were even the most die hard are getting fed up of the lack of ambition at Town. We've spent over the last decade neck deep in the brown stuff and it seems to be gradually getting higher each season unlike Towns league position.

We’ve been in trouble since the off. It’s another looking squad, thin on quality and thin on numbers.
People keep suggesting the manager has been backed by the board, I’m gonna suggest this is bollox and the budget will be no different to any other season.

Utter shite that trickles down from the boardroom. The club is a total shambles and imagine allowing a manager to start a season after a relegation struggle with a cheap and thin squad.

We’ve had loads of managers, it’s not their fault. Sack the board.

I think one of the most telling signs of the depressed atmosphere building up was when the 4th official held up the board to signal 5 mins additional time... Which was met with an audible groan...rather than a rousing roar to gee the team on

Last season we had loads of players but not a lot of quality. We didn’t spend any money in January and let the better players go.
This season we don’t have numbers and we don’t have quality.
They were both bargain bin squads.

Shame on the board, management and players. Whoever is to blame amongst you, you better sort it. It's pathetic and it goes on and on. Sick to death of it.

What do we do now though ? Whatever manager, players, formation we seem to be utter dross. I don’t think the hope in Jolley was false, and other than picking up a goalscorer I was happy with the signings but again the foundations are crumbling before they’ve even set.

The thing is ? What do we do? Sack Jolley and go back to square one or give him time? Even if we did sack him who would come in and turn it around ? We’ve gone from the old seasoned tactical dinosaur and his staff of middle aged ex pro coaches to a young innovative up and coming coach with a top reputation as a youth coach and a staff of fitness orientated sports scientists and we are still treated to the same old lacklustre performances. I’m excrement out of ideas of what will bring a winning mentality back to the club.

It’s not so much this is a poor bunch of players. But we are seriously under performing, we can’t score and that eventually leads to us conceding. Before you know it the fans will lose intense again and we’ll have wasted another season.

The catalyst in this was not keeping our squad together when we came up. On the bounce of coming up we should’ve cemented the likes of Amond and Arnold down and who knows where we would be ? Instead we sold players, released others whilst others turned down poor contracts. It killed our momentum and until the problem is fixed we are going to be another mid table to lower mid table struggler.

Serious question.

Did u think we should be beating Oldham.  Cos I didn't.  They've come from league one and probably got a nice parachute payment.   I think a bit of realism is needed here rather than knee jerk reactions which is what I'm reading.

However everyone's entitled to their opinions and mine is we need to give him time.

Bignott had a similar start, then a 3-0 away win at Blaclpool got him the sack. Oh how I am praying for an away win next week, get rid Fenty, then get rid of yourself, and then the board, all are clueless.

Do you not think he tried to get a striker through the door earlier? We know we had bids for Ryan Donaldson and Lee Angol... Is that Jolley's fault they didn't sign?

I'm as annoyed and frustrated as anyone but we have to give him time. This was always going to be a building season.. I've seen enough positive performances/half's to know this team is capable, we just need to find a system that works and stick with it. Chopping and changing hasn't helped but we've also been unlucky with injuries and daft suspensions.

Once Thomas and Pringle are up to speed I think we'll see a difference. What we have got to do is decide on our strongest defence and run with it for a consecutive run of games. I was very impressed with Hendrie for large parts of today, especially first half when he was the best player on the pitch for me. Famewo and Whitmore have been our best CB's in my opinion but we can't get Fox fit for love nor money so meaning we're having to push Akin out to full back. For me, Collins is past it, he's the easy scapegoat I know but we cannot get away from the fact that we've conceded 7 goals in the 2 games since he returned...!

A settled team is a million times more likely to put together a run of results than a team being changed week in week out.

At what point do we also start looking at Macca? A town legend yes but not above criticism, he's failed to improve on his ability to command his box, come for crosses or getting beat from distance. We saw when Henderson was given a run of games what difference that can make. I'm not saying let's drop Macca but questions have to be asked.

Who are you blaming for the lack of the striker signing then? Who are you blaming for chopping & changing the defence? Who are you blaming for bringing Danny Collins straight back in?

Checked out Oldham's loan signings before the game - 2 from the Prem & 3 from the Championship. We've got 3 from League One.

When you are looking at things like an accident or serious problem they use what is called a Fishbone diagram, it helps identify the problems and gets you to the root of what caused the spanner to drop in the works. Although, I think in Towns case we need a witch doctor because someone a the helm is cursed.

First up I thought Oldham were very poor in the first half, and had there been any justice we would have been ahead at the break. That is were the "good" news ends!

Not for the first time, the second half was a disaster. I am not sure if Jolley and his assistants try to cram too much information into the players during the break, because they seem to come out like they are trying to come terms with it all.

The opposition half time team talk is more straightforward:- "Grimsby cannot hurt us even though they are playing well enough - go out and put them under pressure and they will fold."

It seems to me that the individual players have ability, but we are nowhere near ruthless enough, physical enough or fast enough  to make it work.

I was pinning my hopes on Wes Thomas but he played well within himself and didn't seem fit, but it was better up front with him and Cook in tandem till injury struck.

The left back was poor - from a distance it seems to me he is playing for himself and thinks he is a lot better than he is.

Macca needs a rest as I said the other day. His kicking is not very good, not vocal enough , not commanding enough. Its not a hanging offence but in the second half he seemed to be having a conversation with the office staff who were stood by the open corner.

I am not sure if Michael Jolley has fallen between several stools with his signings. Did he think he could out football teams with smallish, cleverish players with goals coming from throughout the team? To do that you have to be very good indeed, and with the budget wev'e got it isn't possible.

Once again the opposition had an outstanding player (who scored the first two) in the area where it really matters whilst we continue to struggle to attract the quality needed.

All very sad, but if for once we could score whilst on top we might see a different team.

Getting tired of watching a poor Town team. Years and years of non entertainment. Before anybody jumps down my throat about a promotion 2 years ago, it was from non league!
We need somebody please, to come in and take the reigns from the current board and get some money spent so we can compete in division 4. FFS

I’m trying to look for a positive, or at least a reason to give MJ a while longer.
We have currently only played one team in the bottom half, and we beat them

We can play decent football (MK 1st half), but we have to be stronger, with more leaders on the pitch to earn the right to do it.

We also need a settled defence, and a plan B

I totally agree with this. McKeown is a good shot stopper but his distribution, communication and command of his area is average at best. I was astonished when he was given a 3 year deal. Maybe time to give him a rest and let Russell have a go.

There is certainly some blame to be laid at the feet of Jolley 100%...hes young and taking his first job in men's English football. He has and will make mistakes but I'm confident he's intelligent enough to learn from them.

Unfortunately we are an outpost and don't have a huge amount to offer players geographically. We will only attract top players when we can pay them very good money... We can't do that at the moment.

In terms of Oldham's loan signings, they are a big club, with a big history and on the doorstep of Manchester, a major city which will be a draw for players like it or not.

To attract players of a higher calibre, we would either have to drastically turn around our form and be consistently challenging for promotion, or do what Forest Green have done and pay ridiculous wages, which could seriously jeopardise the clubs existence...

What we have to hope and believe in is that Jolley and Limbrick can develop the squad and identify a system that gets the best out of the players we have. We absolutely have a better squad than we have we did last season and we saw what he managed to get out of them.

I best start by saying I'm still 100% behind Jolley and the team. I'm not a boo-er and didn't today.

I am baffled though by some decisions MJ has made since the start of this season. I think 352 was the plan but that was quickly scrapped. Some of the selections have been baffling as well IMO. Again today, the subs were quite strange  and we just seem to be shoving players in to a system rather than build around the players available.

There doesn't seem to  be enough variation in the centre forwards. The squad looks to be poorly assembled but that brings me to what I believe the root of the problem and it's got to be the board. If we haven't got the money then we can't spend it but we need investment from elsewhere to back MJ if we're to start moving in the right direction up the table. Either that or JF to step aside.

In the meantime I'm hoping MJ will at least start playing players in their correct position and the likes of RHJ and Fox will get back to fitness quickly because we're really missing them.

And this underlines how the younger generation view our club.. Oldham a big club that we can't compete with. FFS, God bless the Fenty generation. Another one saying we shouldn't expect to beat at home a side that are destined for mid-table in League Two. I really really fooking despair sometimes. The sad thing is that they're right. Years of deprivation in investment, foresight, success, excitement and entertainment have reduced us to the reality that we're bottom feeders who can't compete with Lincoln, Scunthorpe, Bury, Rochdale, Newport, Doncaster, Oldham, Yeovil etc etc etc. Who the fook can we expect to beat? Thanks JF, that's a sound body of work you've put in at our expense for the past 17 years.. Please name a realistic price (£0) and fook off and take your "no inward investment for years" and "competitive budgets" with you..

I would rather walk out than boo but I still can't quite believe that we are waiting for the re-emergence of RH-J & Fox who are both journeymen/ex-trialists to bail us out.

Don't know the Oldham no 9 but he looked a useful player.
Town need some results against teams in the bottom half. Recently the run of teams has been top half, including those right at the top.

Give the lads a chance and you might be surprised. If we don't get points from the bottom half we are in trouble, but don't panic yet mr manwairing.

Collins gave him the freedom of Blundell Park, it would have been embarrassing for their number nine if he didn't look useful..

Yes the Oldham are a big club comment came as a surprise - to the people of Oldham!

You are right in what you say - anybody who can support Fenty after years of failure and nil inward investment is baffling to say the least.

The frustration is that this is not exactly news. The phenomenal ability of John Fenty & his stooges to continue in their regime of failure & mediocrity without outright revolt is spectacular. The willingness of Mariners young & old to accept that just having a football club is enough is mind-blowing.

Wake up! This is a club with 140 years of history. The last 10% of that history has been the worst time in that history. Our ambition is to stand still. Progress is apparently not an option.

It has baffled and perturbed me in equal measure for a long time.

A mate said to me tonight forget Fenty for a minute and concentrate on whether Jolley can get it right on the field, which is fair enough, but we are going round in ever decreasing circles with Fenty at the centre. What will it take for the majority to revolt against his control of the club - another spell in the Conference?

We have not progressed in any area whatsoever since the day he took over. From my vantage point in the Pontoon I looked across towards our newest stand where he sits. The cheap perspex panels that should offer some protection from the elements in the next few weeks are missing or broken. We didn't have any ball boys today. Some members of staff as they shuffle around the perimeter look unkempt and uninspired.

All small points in the bigger picture of course, but there is no "go" in the club whatsoever. It seems to be stuck in the 1980's and that is being kind.

We were debating the shortage of ball boys today too. We thought that Dee Bee must have sold out of Haribos.

MJ  might not have played the game at professional level but he has the top coaching badges and has been employed at 3 prem clubs,

That's his problem imo, he has been used to talking tactics to top class footballers,

He might spend hours going through different tactics and formations with our L2 players and I think they can not grasp what he wants,

When he asks do you understand ?

None of them dare say" no I am confused " because that would mean they will not be in the team,

Back to basics should be the order of the day and until we get any more players in lets play the ones we have got in their right positions and keep the formation and tactics simple.

You never know it might work and we win a few games.

We might be able to hide behind...suspensions, poor decisions etc for a while but i sat there today and i still have no idea what formation we were playing, did the players ???
Now...i except that the formation may change. ...that the tactical nuances may pass me by as i am not UEFA pro trained ...but.....i do know we have assembled a team that pretty much to a man.....is incapable/unwilling to take on their opponent....never mind capable of beating them.....almost without exception every time one of our players was faced up by an opponent they checked back....Vernam ran at players but he was the only one.

Whether that is self belief, tactical or just purely a fact that our players have little pace or guile i will leave with you.....but if we are incapable/unwilling to take on an opponent on then we are going to struggle.

We've been in trouble since Fenty went in the GET and spouted the infamous words "I always wanted to own a football club" since then what has he got right?

You might not be far wrong there Pete.

I know that both MJ and his assistant put a lot of work into analysing Town's performances and therefore put a great deal of work into deciding teams and tactics for each individual game and I wonder if they are putting too much pressure onto players to play different systems each game.

I also think that opposition managers can change their teams too easily to match our style of play and that is why in the second halves of some matches we are being totally out played.

My big worry is that our players are just not good enough to adapt to so many different tactics, or they are just not good enough for this level of football.

Bogle money - no striker bought as a replacement
Dembele money - no striker bought as a replacement

WERE DID THIS MONEY GO ???

who did we actually pay a fee for this season and in the past god knows how many seasons ???

Doing things on the cheap as always Mr Fenty is not acceptable you have always for years and years brought in free players or loan players that simply aren’t good enough that’s why we are struggling yet again this season in the league, we’re in the year 2000s now JOHN we’re teams have to pay for quality players you have had the money for this from recent player sales so we’re has it gone please tell the fans of this once proud football club we’re or on what that money has been spent on !!! you can’t say it’s gone on this seasons squad or last seasons because they have all been picked up for nothing the playing budget is pi*s poor for the managers who come here and try make something happen with the club,YES there are wages to pay but that just doesn’t account for it the fans DID buy Bogle and you never replaced him or probably never intended too your time is up now do the right thing and walk your taking us nowhere and you’ve took us nowhere since you came to this football club the promise of a new stadium the trusts involvement the hairs standing up on our the back of our necks is just a load of bullshi*t John and we’re fed up with it it’s now TIME TO GO

MJ may have all the coaching badges in the world, but there is a big difference  between a coach and a manager, and it is showing.. The only one at the club that has experiance of being a manager is Dave Moore. And to my mind a coach works under a manager. Being a manager is totaly different to being a coach

Not only do we sign 'free' players, so many are  either unfit or injury prone. I guess Oldham's matchwinner is on a good wage, arrived fit and certainly looked athletic. Before anyone says we missed Welsh, his lack of mobility would have been exposed by their quick breaks yesterday.

When we were non-league I often went home fairly happy after a game-seems a long time ago but the way things are going it looks like history will be repeating itself. I want to be happy occasionally after a match but don't want us to have to drop to non-league to do so. Please make me happy now and then because at the moment I am not

This really puts a massive magnifying glass over the club for me. We are completely uncompetitive at this - league 2 level. Not the championship or league 1 but league 2! In your post you are asking for the absolute bare minimum, that we can make you happy occasionally in league 2. It's not much to ask for is it?

This is just unfathomable, totally unfathomable but the club is simply out of its depth at this level. Simply shocking. Those in charge should be utterly, utterly ashamed.

The club needs a breath of fresh air . This means from the top Mr Fenty. Time to go .

I keep asking the same old question - what has actually improved since he took over? No-one has ever replied.

We put pressure on ourselves by not taking our opportunities we have some compitant players but the inability to turn chances into goals is currently our downfall .

I'm not particularly bothered about when Jolley goes (as soon as possible for me) but realistically I just hope that we either stick with him for the rest of the season, even if it means relegation again or, if things are dire, get rid of him at Christmas before the January window closes (absolutely imperative in my opinion)

We cannot do what we did last season if we are bottom 4 or 5 and leave it until nearly the end of the season and hope that the new man can somehow conjure something up from the heap of shite Jolley leaves behind, like Jolley did with the heap of shite Slade left us with.

As Fenty says a manager only has six games.

Unless you’re Slade of course.

We've been in trouble since Fenty went in the GET and spouted the infamous words "I always wanted to own a football club" since then what has he got right?

Why didn't he buy Scunthorpe instead and then Swann might have bought Grimsby,

We would still be in the championship now with our great support,

Unlike Scunny's.

These two posts sum it all up and they are shocking GTFC now struggle to compete in League 2 and that`s a fact if you look at the Clubs results since relegation from League 1 we have managed to compete top end once .That is simply not good enough and the cynic in me suggests some people running the Club would probably be happier back in the National League.FENTY OUT
