I am not staggered at all - Alan is a very experienced police officer and Kristine does a great job in fans' liaison. I was there last year and they were clueless rather than intimidatory. That makes no difference however, women being the subject of that degree of intrusiveness is total and utterly unacceptable.

Great letter well done the trust if a reasonable response is not received I suggest the trust organise a total boycott of this fixture next year. Not sure how many we took yesterday but a possible 1000 fans paying £21 can a club really afford to lose £21000 in gate revenue

It would be interesting to know if home fans were subjected to the same sort of criteria
Or any other visiting supporters for that matter. !!

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

I doubt they would answer that truthfully "" of course all fans are treated the same" but in reality where ever we go there will be special measures implemented for us, Luton, Coventry etc due to our numbers. It maybe of interest to speak to other trust to see if they get similar treatment and if the answer is yes then a combined boycott from all trusts need to be called for , after all the combined loss  income from all large visiting club would really hurt

Home fans did not have the same searches but this is the norm across football as its generally the same faces every game.  I have spoken to a couple of other SLO's who have had issues with queuing but not been subjected to bra searching, both took large followings.

Great letter, well done all. I reckon we should make a real effort when they visit BP just to show them what proper clubs do.

Why are people surprised at how well it's written? Not every Town fan has a reading/writing age as low as the average on this forum!

You arrogant tw@t.

Don't let one or two trolls lower your opinion of one of the best football forums around.

I would imagine the surprise is due to the low standard of PR we have come to expect from GTFC.  What people probably don't realise is that this letter is actually from the trust, not GTFC itself.

Spot on letter, well written. Can I ask that over the coming days, weeks you keep us appraised of who answers, I have my feelings that any replies will be the usual PR gobbledygook. Also if Stevanage basically fob you off then totally agree with a boycott, we are doing one in the Cheka trade which does hurt our own clubs financies so why not effect some of these amateur clubs, Cheltenham springs to mind.

Sounds like the female steward was looking for some action be it fisticuffs or a fisting in one of the cubicles. For females and kids to be treated in the manner they were, is frankly down right disgusting and Stevenage should be ashamed of the deviant nature in which these moronic stewards acted.

Supporting the Mighty Mariners for over 30 years, home town club is were the heart and soul is and it's great to be a part of it.

Increased prize money which is supposed to more than cover any boycott (revenue) by the fans.

I personally will be boycotting though.

I and other Trust Board members not only witnessed the events but were approached by members complaining both inside and outside the ground. I think it is appropriate in the interests of representing our members that The Trust ran a complaint that can run parallel to anything done by the SLO and GTFC. Quite simply these sort of shenanigans have to be stamped out. The more organisations who can get involved the better.

Due to the scale and nature of what happened the trust have written this letter in addition to any SLO work rather than instead of.

I've now submitted my email to Stevenage.  I think it's important to try to keep these things to our own observations, experiences and facts.  It's very tempting to get stuck in with opinions on what we've heard (much of it quite disgraceful) but I'm sure the Trust and the Club will collate feedback together.

Thanks to the Trust for sending this letter.  A good example of how they can act as an independent voice for the fans whilst still working in parallel with the club.

Often you see GTFC stewards at away games supporting the home staff, do we know if this was considered yesterday?

Just to clarify, GTFC are aware we sent the letter. They may well make their own representations.

Glad it's been well received. We'll report back if/when we get responses.

Why are people surprised at how well it's written? Not every Town fan has a reading/writing age as low as the average on this forum!

Yes, an excellent, well-drafted letter.  A response sent very quickly, which is always best.

Maybe we should give up on the football and write books and articles instead.  Our writing skills are better than our football skills at present.

I would like to thank the trust for writing this letter on behalf of the Town supporters.

I have supported Town home and away for over forty years, visiting over 100 different grounds. Sadly, over the years, i  have come to accept that searching of fans is necessary on some occasions.

However, what I witnessed yesterday was, quite frankly, disgusting. Decent folk being treated as criminals. I had in my possession a mobile phone, wallet, and house and car keys which I obligingly showed the steward. After a full body search, the steward then wanted to check every key on the key ring!!.All this with a police officer standing a yard away.

The whole experience was intimidating and bizarre - and that's coming from a 'hardened' away supporter.

It will be interesting to read the response from Stevenage FC.

Can I suggest that unless we get a full apology from Stevenage FC ,

We do a boycott of any more games at Stevenage until they admit our supporters are not a threat to their safety or liable to cause an any offence that might be considered to be against the law.

Speaking personally, I suspect they would see that as a win Pete. Judging by the attitudes to us yesterday, I suspect they'd be over the moon if we boycotted.

Well if they can afford to lose say £20,000 pound in gate money and beer money who cares ?

Good letter. Shocked at what happened. Arriving late I didn't see any of this.

You'd have thought after the recent success in the Hillsborough tragedy campaign, authorities, clubs and police would have learned lessons.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Actually a male steward in a female toilet isn't as bad as a female steward in a men's toilet if I'm honest... Women have doors on every toilet whereas we use urinals in the open.

I have just been informed that the Stevanage police are congratulating themselves on a highly successful operation on Saturday, due to prior police intelligence (don't laugh) there screening process allowed them to confiscate various offensive articles, these included, 7 flasks, 4 bags of Wurthers Originals, 14 Mars Bars, and 3 blankets.

I await the statement from Stevenage somewhat as follows.
' After being made aware of complaints from visiting supporters,
Stevenage Football Club launched their own investigation'
We now appreciate the need to review the procedures for controlling/searching fans at the (whatever their ground is called). In light of recent events throughout Europe we accept that a small minority of our staff may have been over enthusiastic in their desire for the security and wellbeing of all supports at the match.  Our stewards will receive further training to ensure no such problems reocurr. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused to visiting supporters.

Etc etc.

Let's hope it doesn't get brushed under the carpet though.

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Good on the Trust for raising this issue.

If we don't say or do something, behaviour like this by so-called authority will continue, to the point where it's accepted behaviour and stewards think they can do this to everyone.

This is why we must not stop asking difficult questions to those in authority. Roll over or wait for someone else to make the complaint and the situation won't get resolved.

There comes a point when enough is enough. I've felt like I've been treated like a criminal when following Town at away games and it's about time something like this tells the rest of the world what happened and will hopefully garner some support from other fans who have been treated badly.

It was the 2 heavy stewards in the ground that went to two kids no older than 12yo to tell them to sit down when they were stood on the very back row. like it needed 2 of them to say that to the little lads. I was appalled by the behaviour on Saturday of the stewards

I was stood on the row below the two lads and actually the stewards where very polite and asked them nicely to not stand on the chair and said they're welcome to stand normally in front of it and said thank you as they walked off.

Wonder if Steve Fanthorpe is still the Safety Officer in charge there?

stevef@stevenagefc.com

https://www.stevenagefc.com/news/2015/january/join-our-match-day-stewards-team-here-at-stevenage-fc/

Maybe he can clarify why hand sanitiser wasn't allowed, why women had to partially undress in full view of all and sundry and why a woman had to supervise men going to the toilet?

This action by stewards at Steveange as well as being wholly inappropriate also asks questions about child safety and female sex abuse - not two of the things you normally associate with going to a football match.

I would hope that all the stewards concerned have had appropriate training - the Trust and / or the club should be asking just excatly what training they've had - and that they have all been police checked so as to be able to work with very young children. It beggars belief that people who are there ostensibly to actually look after the safety of fans are, by their ignorance and actions, actually endangering it.

It would perhaps be appropriate to contact other Trusts in our division who are going to have fans travelling down there to make them well informed, but also to ask that any further instances of such poor behaviour are logged and sent to the appropriate authorities?

Stevenage will undoubtedly say that everything that was done was done to conform to health and safety legislation. Again, when that happens I would ask the Trust to ask them exactly what part of the Health and Safety legislation they are actually talking about. They won't be able to answer because there is no answer to condone what went on on Saturday. Keep up the good work it makes my Trust membership mean so much more from afar.

No attempt at ethical or social seduction can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred of the Tory party. So far as I'm concerned they're lower than vermin. Aneurin Bevan.

Smells all a bit rotten eggs to me. Grimsby fans were naughty there last year, according to their accounts.
Stevenage 'up' security and all  have a good old giggle to themselves, as it was of course, our very own John Fenty who accused the female fan of smuggling in smoke bombs as tampons! He who throws accusations of smoke bombs, should be willing to accept the consequences.

Personally think your trust has done the right thing exposing them for what they are ,we play them away soon.
They were wrong in the way they treated your fans so its really good they are getting so much negative exposure.

Many were shocked and surprised and some likely wrongly assumed that because a steward was asking then it was acceptable.

Dear oh dear
😂😂😂

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Personally think your trust has done the right thing exposing them for what they are ,we play them away soon.
They were wrong in the way they treated your fans so its really good they are getting so much negative exposure.
A lot  Lincoln fans agree it was wrong and stand with you on this.

Yes, very pleasing to read the thread on your forum where it seems that your fans are backing us on this one rather than using it against us.

Many were shocked and surprised and some likely wrongly assumed that because a steward was asking then it was acceptable.

I think most of us on The Fishy will agree that we should be very careful in what we say on here at the present time given the sensitivity and importance of the matter, don't give the media any chance of turning the tables on us after the brilliant job the Trust has done in bringing it to their attention.

Some OB came into the old town spoons and told the bar staff "they had heard" there were groups of Town roaming about looking for trouble.
We were stood right next to them and they hadn't realised we were Town until we guffawed at them.

Misleading information tweeted by Derbyshire Police is taken as gospel by Hertfordshire Police and it creates the environment that many experienced at Stevenage on Saturday.

Things like this will snowball from nothing - which again underlines the important job the Trust is doing in highlighting this. We need to nip this in the bud before it becomes something our whole club is tarred with.

Not that I would wish damage on any other club and its fans, but Stevenage themselves may realise that just one intense period of negative media could leave them with a reputation that's hard to shift, irrespective of their investigation's findings.

I was stood on the row below the two lads and actually the stewards where very polite and asked them nicely to not stand on the chair and said they're welcome to stand normally in front of it and said thank you as they walked off.

I am sure they were nice, however 2 stewards required to tell two young boys to sit down was OTT IMO

The Comet is never going to print anything derogatory about Stevenage as the club spend a fair bit on advertising and the Comet would be worried about getting banned so that explains the defensive report.

I missed a call from a Comet reporter this morning as I was going into a meeting, shame I would have put him straight about all the mad women at Chesterfield trying to slash the locals throats with their bra wires. The only real thing I saw during the game was the Chesterfield fan with the smoke bomb at 1 - 2.

The intel does not warrant the level of behavior from the stewards, but I guess that Stevenage see that as a get out of jail free card..

The most worrying aspect is there was no disorder at Chesterfield, that was debunked on Twitter! Yet this newspaper is now propagating the lie which is used to criminalise and dehumanise all football fans.

I'm no fan of our clubs PR believe me. But I think they need to leave this to the 'supporters' trust so in this case remain silent.
Besides, I think JF, RS and Co have enough to worry about trying to sort out what happens ON the pitch.

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Just catching up with this after work:

A statement of solidarity with the supporters might be appreciated but on balance I have to agree with Civvy that it probably is best to let the Trust run with it.

Despite not being there myself on Saturday I would like to thank the Trust for standing up for everyone who was there and Town fans in general. The Trust and Kristine are clearly doing their very best to stop the tarring of ALL Town fans with the same brush as a few who need to be ratted out of Town and football in general. The Bucks Police statement is very upsetting for them and us as a fanbase. Just what have they and we got to do to clear our name?

At least we've got the ever welcoming Notts force to welcome us next time. Credit where it is due to them mind, they were good at Notts County last season.

To be honest I think we have it about right. In her role as GTFC SLO Kristine is working behind the scenes and the Trust are doing what I've always believed they should be doing i.e. representing good people who are sick to the back teeth of being classed as somehow sub-human for the heinous crime of following their football team at considerable expense.

The aim of argument or discussion should not be victory but progress.

Media outlets who make reference to reports re Chesterfield should be made aware, as I found out on Saturday, that those reports are being challenged. The Hertfordshire Police is also inaccurate as I contacted them last night to complain about one of their officers last night and made clear reference to the wider context of what the stewards did.

The statement is balderdash. The stuff about searches happened and the toilet stuff happened. In fact the reaction by the fans was a credit to them, I was stood outside the toilets (I wasn't allowed on the terrace with my chips) One female steward alongside 4 male stewards antagonised fans throughout when she was asked to leave. It was only when the fans asked for the police that it sorted itself out and the stewards were told to leave.

In the second half the same group of stewards kicked off as they were told they were stood in the way of the game. Police called and stewards taken away, AGAIN. Not a single fan that I saw had to be dealt with by the police.

What's worse is, our idiots weren't even present at the game. I visited 3 pubs before hand, all mixed fans in there, all absolutely fine with not even a hint of hostility. Stevenage had planned for a riot and when it didn't happen, decided to try to cause one themselves.

Heartening to read the thread on the Imps board. Maybe they can catch our protest bug (another symptom of Grimsbyitis   ) and run a Bras at Broadhall theme for their next (League) away day.

On a more serious note, I disagree with Jock and others who say JF shouldn't get involved. Personally I think he should be picking up the phone to his opposite numbers at other clubs (especially those ones we'll be visiting in the near future and pointing out the truth (e.g. link to that Chesterfield newspaper report on Derbyshire Police's economy with the truth). We've already seen those untruths used once to justify an over zealous 'security measures'.

Until enough people in control of football know the truth, the same thing will keep happening.

I thought we had a general election last year and no matter about the result we did not vote for a police state, but it seems they can make statements at Chesterfield that tars our support, this is how Hillsborough started, police covering up their errors. Let's have answers please, but if the Coventry debacle is anything to go by it will all be chip paper by Wednesday.

Indeed. That's why we need to keep asking questions about the Coventry shenanigans.

Might seem a long stretch from bad stewarding to a real tragedy, but once lies get passed around by the authorities and accepted as Gospel wrong decisions get taken.

The anger at the treatment of genuine law abiding town fans has been building for some time now and Stevenage was the straw that broke the camels back. We're all sick of being treat like hooligans/2nd class citizens. It's also time the club started acknowledging the fact that the overwhelming majority of us are well behaved folks who just want to follow the club we love.

I would add two things into this, as alluded to in my last post, Stevenage police inside the ground actually did a decent job. They could've joined in with the stewards and made it 10x worse. It's a shame the police on duty that day have been let down by the ludicrous statements after it.

Secondly, the stewards claimed that the woman was in the toilets to stop people smoking. Firstly, why not send a bloke in? Secondly, why did she stay in there? And thirdly, when asked if I could smoke, advice came from a steward (and I certainly wasn't the only one given this advice) to smoke in the toilets! There is no evidence or indication anybody took his advice mind you.

That's the only cups they are going to get their hands on this year

I hope they draw Millwall at home in the cup!

I would travel down there to stand outside the away end and watch their (bar)stewards in action

So the Derbyshire police lied about pubs having to close because of damage done by our fans at Chesterfield , this then gave Hertfordshire police the chance to pass on information to tell Stevenage stewards to search women and kids and be antogonistic to our fans a few weeks later?
This is exactly how the Hillsborough myth started , People still witter on about the Sun newspaper but those quotes it printed came from police officers.
These illegitimates have never learned a single thing and I hope our club can threaten some legal action or at least ask for an apology

That's why it needs the widest possible publicity.

Also because there must be hundreds of other incidents faced across the country, not just by us. The more we get the 'something like that happened to us' reaction the more clubs' fans will take issues up.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Would interesting to hear what the lad in the Town top is saying to her, I'll go with, have you had a good enough look at the blue veined custard chucker or come on love it's not going to suck itself.

Supporting the Mighty Mariners for over 30 years, home town club is were the heart and soul is and it's great to be a part of it.

Jesus’ disciple Peter, picked up a fish to get the tribute money from it, Jesus left his thumb print on the fish, bless'ed is the Haddock.

All she was doing was handing out sanitiser and paper towels 😉

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Webbit, I was not at Chesterfield but from all the pictures I've seen it appears to me that there was a complete line of stewards and police across the front of the stand, so again did those supporters on the front have a restricted view or did they have to stand up, again unlawful.

Some decent comments from our visitors on Saturday.

https://gasroom.org/discussion/3244/grimsby-fans-unhappy-with-treatment-at-stevenage

"Always thought Grimsby have a very well organised fan voice. Boycotting the checkatrade whilst raising money for charity, protesting against franchise at Wembley a few years back, those t shirts 'Franchise football, never forgive, never forget,' always well represented at England matches. It's a pity more clubs' fans in this country aren't like that."

We were sorry to hear that you felt your matchday experience was spoiled by the security measures we have in place at The Lamex Stadium. I'm sure you can appreciate that supporter safety is a high priority for us, but more importantly you must understand that all of us here at Stevenage Football Club are a bunch of raging perverts, who love nothing more than checking out what bra you've got on, especially when it comes to seventy-year-old women who have just spent three sweaty hours on a coach down from Grimsby.

I hope you will understand that Cynthia, one of our best and most experienced stewards, really gets off on watching people urine and as a club that prides itself on accommodating the needs of our employees, we felt it necessary to give her a prime posting in the mens toilets, a position that, let me assure you, was greatly sought after among our highly trained team of deviant sex criminals.

If you would like to discuss the matter further, we would like to invite you for a meeting with our head of security, Jim 'Wandering Hands' Harrison. He has agreed to meet with you, on the understanding that you do not wear any pants and on completion of the meeting will allow him to paddle you silly.

Yours sincerely
Mr Dom Inatrix.[/i]"

Not sure if it's come up on this thread but I got a call from Stevenage council today and they have spoken to the football club who have confirmed they will be putting hand washing facilities in their away gents toilets

Something positive to come from it, although I hope one the majority of our supporters don't benefit from as I don't see why they should get our money in the future.

Now that is interesting Herts, if the set up they have isn't an issue why spend money when its not necessary.

Fookin mardy bottom.
Bet your a barrel of laughs on a night out 🤡🤡

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.
