Unfortunately I have to disagree with that, mate. I personally believe that ironing out the ballwatching is far more important for a promotion chasing team than having a full-back who is more adept at attacking play. To me, the requirements for being a fullback are positioning, marking and tackling, along with the ability to play a simple pass. The rest, in my opinion is embellishment. He has the pace to get back, yes, but by ballwatching he gives the opponent time to get forward to the byline, thus giving their midfielders time to come through and make runs, meaning our midfielders have to track back with them. From this, when we win the ball, we're hemmed rather deep in our own half making it more difficult to spring a counter attack. Conversely, if his marking is spot on and he can cut out passes to the wings, our midfielders and wide men will be further up the pitch, giving him a simple pass into midfield or down the line, allowing us to get on the move again without being to deep in our own half.

Plus, we have Thomas as an attacking full-back on the left, and to me this negates the need for an overly attacking full-back on the other flank.

Fair enough!! Well put.

Just been speaking to the lad in tescos. Says he's looking forward to the new season and the challenge/fight that's hatton is gonna give him. Brad said the last pearson he saw off out the team played in the premiership, a one Robbie stockdale. Could see he up for the fight to get a shirt. Says he enjoyed pre-season..

Said there is a great set of lads in the squad and thinks This team will be pushing this year..
Also went on to say he calmed down alot in tackles because of the likes of anthony elding that has taken him under the wing and is for ever advising him. Said he looks up to the likes of Anthony.

He was so complimentary about the support at lincoln in the final the other day, was gutted not to have played a part.
Well done brad keep working hard and you will be fine matey..

Really don't get the obsession with a Bradley Wood thread on here every single week with the same posters saying the same things about him.

Like the Bore and North threads they will continue long after he leaves us at the end of the season.

Fair play to him for having confidence, but I dont quite remember him seeing Stockdale out of the team.....

The first season under Newell, Stockdale was a big part in tightening up our defence for me until his injury issues caught up with him. Unless Bradley has smashed him about in training I think Stockdale would still be in there now.

Wood will play his part this season but seriously, give Hatton a chance first. You can't judge him on a few pre-season games. He wasn't rated so highly for nothing.

Some people never seemed to accept Silk last season because he wasn't Wood even though he was a perfectly solid player and I'd prefer if the same thing didn't happen again.

So this isn't a grimsby town forum? Where the debate is about a grimsby town player??

I suggest you don't open the flipping thread titled BRADLEY WOOD ffs, you know what its going to be about, unless you opened it in the off chance it was about slagging him off so you could join in. But when its praise you pull out the same old posters after ever game balderdash ? Really after every game?? Don't think so the lad has had a good pre season and looks like he's stepping it up for the fight ahead with hatton so he deserves praise but we aren't allowed to do that are we??
