This will be the first time in 30 years I've refused to go to a local derby match. I've made this decision with a sad and heavy heart but unfortunately the current team and management style of football does not warrant me the travel costs and entrance fee, I just cannot see most of the current squad enticing me back (believe me as an ardent supporter that follows Town home and away)
There's no passion, commitment, flair, pride - to me personally ( I may be wrong) I feel like the current squad or management style have no connection with the fans of gtfc! I sincerely hope I'm proved wrong tomorrow and regret not going ( i will be listening on radio) and will be victorious - but currently I don't see it.
Prove me wrong and let's see a vast improvement UTM!!!

If someone is THAT drunk off I am sure they just can't be arsed anymore. They stop going, they stop posting on message boards surely? Or maybe they are just attention seeking?

But you went to the games during 07-10 when we were worse than we are now. Very odd, support the team not the regime.

No drama queen - can't be arsed?? - surely the thread title of 30 years suggests that this current squad does not entice me to pay £40+ quid week in week out to watch what is being served out!
I've followed Town through the championship years to the conference but unfortunately this current squad and the style of play  won't change the way I feel currently

Whilst I may not be a fan of the regime that runs the club in all departments or even happy with the talent on show, in over 50 years I have never once not gone to a home game because I wasn't happy with what is on show.

However you have the right to do what you want.

We are not bottom of the league and we could be 5 wins to 5 loses on Saturday

So why are you so defeatist ?

Who can actually see us us getting a positive result tomorrow? Forums are fickle places - we loose tomorrow and my thread will be forgotten and be replaced by Slade out etc.etc. and I'm not going anymore! But if we win (hopefully) this thread will be re-quoted and people will say part time supporter you should have gone!

To stop going does not stop you posting on a message board it’s a free country. What I reckon it does do is reduce your credibility as a poster as not paying your ticket money at least a few times a season disqulifies you as a stake holder.

Drama queen!

Along with the 1200 or so 'drama queens' that stayed away on Tuesday ? !!!!

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

The sad reality mate is that most people won't care. Go or don't go. Can't see the point of posting a thread on it, and am surprised that you consider this the lowest point of the last 30 years; sufficient to make you decide not to go to a football league derby game. Personally I can remember many a worse team and time.

Exactly my thread title mate - I really do care about the club and fans - it's been my life (marriage and kids apart) and through the past 9 months+ I personally feel we've regressed so much - no atmosphere no pride and no passion - but come 10.30 tomorrow the passion for gtfc will get the better of me and I'll get a restricted view in the UF!

I feel no connection to the players or the management, only the badge these journeymen wear on their chests.  I got offered free tickets to the game but I can't justify wasting time, which is precious at the moment, to come away disappointed. The only game I'll go to is Swindon as I'll be meeting a friend.

I can remember in the Conference, when we go our team back, there was a genuine connection between players and fans, now there's nothing for me.  For me, this was all down to the appointment of Slade and the underhand way it came about.

No I am just supporting the team,

As far as Fenty goes I am still not a supporter

BUT

I love the club and until you or somebody comes in to  run the club I support Fenty,

So people are actually arguing the Conference was better? It's beggar belief, it really is. Frankly we showed more fight on Tuesday than we had done previously for months because we came back into the game on two occasions. I have absolutely no idea how you can say the Conference was better, trust me I didn't see anybody going "oh excrement, we've got promoted". So I ask the question. Would you rather go back to the Conference and win more games and have an allegedly strong bond with the players and manager or stay in the league under the current regime? I personally can't recall any such bond between the Fishy and Hurst.

To give up on GTFC after such a short spell into the season is pretty sad but the choice is yours.

People need to remember like it or not this is a new squad still in it's infancy.

The bignot period was very radical perhaps to radical Fenty went for experience with Slade and Wilco.

To be honest I was relieved as I thought the players seemed as confused as us as to what the lop sided system was trying to achieve.

Slade as not got it going yet but I can see what he is trying to do tomorrow should show us how we have evolved hopefully he will put a strong attacking front line ie Matt and Jones with Dembele and or D.J. on the flanks.

To many people are ready to write us off as usual.

Sorry Pete I never thought we'd run away with the league  - after the past 5 years I'm quite happy with mid table consolidation- my point is apart from 1 or 2 players there is no commitment or passion towards gtfc which us loyal fans have witnessed over the years - even in the conference the team showed more commitment to the fans and club - make of that as you please

Probably yes. One thing I am really grateful to Hurst for.

Well I say that, but only to illustrate life is much more complicated than you think Mariner09. It's good to be back in the League but there's lots I miss about the Conference. There's no reason why we couldn't have carried most of that over into the League and I think the fans have made a good effort and continue to keep the spirit going. It's just the way the club is run.

All that togetherness and enthusiasm has been ditched by someone who doesn't give a excrement what the other fans think.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

As i'm the only one to have mentioned the conference I'll presume that you are talking about my post.  I suggest you read it again.  I did not say the conference was better or that I wanted to go back.  I did not say there was a connection with Hurst.

My original point was clear, so i'll not reiterate.

I haven't read all the replies but the regime has been the same for the last 15 years. Managers have come and gone, some supporters love certain managers and loathe others. That is football. There is never a period when everyone is happy; playing Championship football was not enough to save Buckley from the sack - there is always somebody unhappy with the way its going.

Iv'e had my moans over the years about the "regime" but regimes come and go, but we don't go to the match to support the regime or otherwise, we go to support the team. This team is average so far, but we have had far far worse than average and had six miserable seasons in non league, so I don't know why you have chosen this year not to go to a derby game.

Get yourself there if you can. Just my opinion.

PS Wilkinson was one of our own and was one of the best forwards of the last 30 years so he must have connection to the club and I am sure he wants the best for it.

That "All togetherness" was borne from the fact that the year before we were robbed by the ref and were lot more deserving of being promoted than Bristol.

That is what inspired Operation promotion and helped focus both fans and players to make darned sure we gave it a good go next season.

Even then it was touch and go against Braintree who could ever forget  Dis tearfully admitting "Everybody wrote us off." Hurst certainly didn't and was more bitter than Craig over his feelings towards the fans.

Hurst was given a lot more time than most managers to get it right on the field.

Slade deserves a decent run the alternative would be another manager and another change of personnel on the field we can't afford that again can we???

I'm not a big fan of Slade but he is the manager and i don't think he has had 20 games in charge yet, has he? The season is far from a disaster, though i admit it's a bit dull at present. Tomorrow is a big game, yet all i hear is that Lincoln are going to outplay and outsing us. Forgive me for saying this but they aint exactly setting the league alight either, so i'm going along to watch what i think will be a fairly even game which could go either way. If we lose, it will be hard to take but not the end of the world. Grimsby folk are a hardy bunch, or at least they used to be.

Oh I agree on Slade.  It'd be daft changing manager at this point. My finger wasn't pointing at Slade.

And tomorrow's result, whatever it is, isn't all that important in the long run. As I said the other day, they're not exactly tearing up any trees, and if we win we'll only be just above them. Still be sweet though

Disagree about the togetherness though. Op.Promo was the apotheosis not the start. It'd been building for a good long while before the Bristol final. I think Fenty spunked away all that goodwill with the FL Trophy decision and subsequent behaviour.

Lincoln may not be setting the league alight but their management team are on their way up, while ours, well....I reckon we're Russ's last management job in the league.

All this doom and gloom..........we could be above the mighty Lincoln tomorrow, who will be winning the Champions League soon if they can hang on to Cowley.

78% (approx) of the League games left to play this season. Seems a little bit melodramatic to claim it's disastrous just yet.

This was one of my favourite subjects for discussion-namely what motivated the Operation Promotion thing. I'll readily admit to having to look up the word "apotheosis" but I don't recall there being a particular togetherness through the 2014/15 season. True it was our first season of actually getting to the final and the way we went about Eastleigh in the semis made it feel like we were a stones throw from the Promised Land BUT something changed during that 120 minutes v Brizzle. Whether it was the vivid feeling of being robbed, of total injustice or the way the fans stuck together at Wembley and made a bloody good job of being the underdogs against Rovers twice as many fans is open to conjecture. I'm sure if you look through the Classic Threads section for any posts that were made immediately following the final or into the next day you will struggle to find a Fishyite writing anything along the lines of it being Town's fault or, we didn't deserve to win etc. etc.
The first e-mail about the embryonic Operation Promotion from Bax landed in my inbox before I got out of bed on the Monday after the final. The driving force for it came from the reaction of fans on Social Media especially the Fishy in a "We must harness this and use it as a positive" kind of way. The Fishy might be very difficult to guage in normal times but the fact the support for the team, manager and club as a whole was so unequivocable meant we knew Operation Promotion could run (although we had no idea it would do a passable impression of Usain Bolt)

I'm going today, I have a season ticket but I still would have gone anyway even if I never, I'll always have a season ticket but the number of away games I go to will severely drop, I used to go to 15/16 a season, this season I've been to 1 so far and that was Mansfield, I'm going to Port Vale but after that I don't know, currently we are really poor and I don't think I can justify paying nigh on 60 or 70 quid, sometimes more on many away games atm.

We can change manager and even style but it won't alter the fact that  we are a medium sized fish in this pond. I hate to say we have found our level but until we get a new ground then I suspect we might have as so many otherr sides have done, thereby overtaking us in terms of revenue and support. That doesn't mean to say we can't expect a good season some years but promotion campaigns every year are just not going to happen every season. We picked up a lot of support during the non-league years and its obvious to me that fans would rather watch a team near the top of one division than the bottom half of another above it.

From my personal opinion if we played decent football I'd have made an effort to travel to Newport. I'm sure their is a lot of people in the same boat, basic wage people won't fork out £50+ (which is a lot of money for people like myself) to watch the ball in the sky for 90 minutes.

I can't remember a derby I've wanted Town to win more for ages than today just to shut a lot of people up for a few days .

For me it is vital we win today, simply because the mood will turn even more angry and toxic if we are defeated.

Mood and often opinions are self perpetuating. Like a snowball rolling down a hill, difficult to stop it getting bigger and mor destructive.

Same TBH but no doubt if they lose “brand Cowley” will spin it.

All I want to see it Town all over them like a rash from the off.

I get exactly what samg is saying, normally every season me and my Dad are pulling up trees to find an excuse or money to get to a town game being exiles, but this season not really, we can't stand watching the team at the moment, we barely want to log into Ifollow and watch.

We'll be going the Vale match as its round the corner, probably one at Christmas when we come up to visit family but we're certainly not going to be going out of our way to get to a match compared to the last 14/15 seasons when we've had the money to do so.

The football is boring, the players aren't being utilised properly by the management and I'm going into every match thinking we won't win. I can see why samg doesn't want to spend his money I'm also rather disheartened and it stems from a lack of faith in the management.

Look I always tried to see the positive even when Woods was manager I thougt maybe we can get a win, but right now the football is so awful, we hoof it up in hope not to a target, not with a game plan but in hope. At least in the conference you could see what the manager was trying to do most of the time, you could see a game plan even if it wasn't working like hoof the ball to the left wing to Monkhouse, even if it was poor, you could see what they were trying to do.

I've wanted Slade out the moment he was appointed, I wasn't even willing to give the man a chance I knew what was coming, we all knew what was coming and its there right in front of us. A footballing side that isn't allowed to play football. I am demoralised and I don't see a light at the end of the tunnel at all we look like we've reached the highest we can this season all ready, best we can do is peer over our shoulders to make sure no one is climbing up. Sure Slade will get us the odd good win against a team we didn't expect but thats it. We had a team that was flirting with the playoffs last year great. This year we won't even come close
