Interesting how few posts there have been since yesterday when we won again. I know I am always likely to post negative stuff when we are failing, but I also come on when we do well. After last w/e there were endless threads and posts about performance etc.

It's nice to go to bed on a Saturday knowing you've won for a change but we really do have to kick on from it...else it will feel like a hollow victory.

Just been to my village newsagent to buy 'Non-League ' for the first time for many months.

Would you believe it ! They didn't have one.

What's the world coming to , or do we have dozens of secret Mariner supporters locally who
get up earlier than me?

Maybe all the boo boys have been run out of town by Fenty, shaunieboy and the rest of the fishy mafia...??? Maybe Mariners_15 has got his wish and they've all been muted...???

Anyway, for what it is worth a 1-0 win is at FGR is hardly anything to write home about is it, although I accept maybe in our position it is...

I remember when we won 3-2 last season there and everyone was having a shitfit saying we should be hammering them... To me it just shows expectation is being slowly knocked out of us...

Hopefully this will kick us on, I expect to finish in the play offs and think we will eventually despite our shitty start...

We drew with FGR last year 3-3 iirc. Anyway, its nice to actually get a win. If we beat H&Y on Saturday, nick a draw at Stockport and then beat Kettering at home, we should be up amongst it.

We did draw 3-3 as it was on tele and they were 3-1 up...may be reality has actually set in for many a fan though and the realise, it doesn't matter if we think teams are pub teams etc, we are in the same league and 3 points is three points whether you win 1-0 away or 15-0, still the same amount o points.

We need to kick on, and hopefully by the end of this month we will be in a position which is good with the chance to break into the playoffs and forget how Fuckig awful august has been...

We need to win at least 3 or 4 games in a row which I believe we havent done in a few years now. You have to start somewhere though so I'm feeling more positive than I was a week a go.

Good to get the victory. The positives are that we've been playing OK ever since the Braintree debacle.

Decent away results against Newport and now FGR, unlucky to lose against Gateshead and very unlucky to lose against Darlo.

The negatives, obviously, are our failure to get as many points as our play has deserved in recent matches and this means we are now a long way behind the leading clubs. We need to keep grinding out the results if we're going to cement a play-off place - I think automatic promotion is beyond us, already. The fact that two clubs are off to such a flyer means that it is unlikely that both will fall off too much before the end of the season.

I'm not so sure Maringer, not trying to raise anyones hopes but you look at the league positions of teams it's almost like someones drawn them at random.
If Cambridge are 5th (we're only 4 pts behind), can the league really be that strong ?
Automatic promotion may be a step too far but the league looks wide open to me...
Not saying we're anywhere near strong enough to challenge yet but who knows we might be if we get a roll.

A big win would be a 4 pointer for us though considering our GD.

i really do want to feel positive, and it's underpinned by the defence which is starting to make me feel more encouraged. Maybe they are starting to get to know each other. However, the lack of openings at the other end will be our undoing unless something changes.
I'm inpressed with Hearn and I'm sure he'll do the business, but we're not creating enough chances. From what I've seen of Elding, Spencer and Duffy the chances are going to be gilt edged for them to find the net. I'd feel more positive with Makofo on the right, Eagle on the left and Coulson/Hearn up front.

Very true. Also the very same performance can be viewed as pee poor or great and steady depending on the result.
Heard a few 'good performance's from yesterday but if we'd lost I reckon it would've been a completely different assessment.

Wouldn't mind playing poor every week and coming out with a victory for  us to go up like its been mentioned, soon at the FT whistle goes the feeling of a win is un-buyable i don't care what you say. Lets build a big building from little blocks, long live the mariners.

Heard a few 'good performance's from yesterday but if we'd lost I reckon it would've been a completely different assessment.

Exactly, most fans only look at results over the short term, not performances.
Had we drawn 0-0 it would have been "where are the goals coming from".
But we were planning to keep things tight and I didn't really expect more than a 0-0 so we did well.

Then again you'd have to say we've got to beat Hayes & Yeading now though - dread to think what will happen if we lose that one or what Scott will do...
Even if we draw the fans won't be happy(and nor will I tbh)
If we're serious about having half a chance you can't hide behind "good performances" and "bad luck" forever at home except in obvious cirumstances - 20 shots on target and you're likely to still win regardless of luck.

Guess H&Y might stick 10 men behind the ball so we've got all week to work on unlocking teams in the final 3rd.

A good old thumping would do the squad the world of good - I hope we don't sit back on a 1 goal lead like we did vs Cambridge - I say kill the fuuckers off asap when they're under the kosh, not hand the initiative back to them and play with fire.

Get a 2 goal margin you've got a chance the floodgates might open and IMO that's what's really gonna boost confidence - not squeaking past teams by 1 goals margins helpful as that is.

We'll only be serious challenger once we become an attacking force to be feared so let's up the ante and knuckle down to the ultimate task in hand.

I'm usually fairly positive about Town as a whole....... I was honestly expecting us to beat Forest Green by more yesterday on the back of the Darlo game (which was the last game that I watched). What I saw yesterday wasn't always pretty, not as good as some of the stuff we played against Darlo but three points will always make me feel positive, especially away.

I'm a happy(ish) Mariner at the minute.

Agreed, although I'm not convinced about big wins breeding confidence - how many times do we see teams win by big margns and then lose their next game? I think what breeds confidence is a winning or unbeaten run, but luckily beating H&Y will mean something of a run anyway! Only 2 games but I reckon much more belief going to Stockport.

I've remained quietly positive throughout and have left games, even some we have lost, with a positive vibe for the first time in a long time -being sure to stay behind with a large amount of other supporters and let the player's know I applaud their efforts.

Couldn't make Forest Green due to work but great to hear that the Town end 'to a man' stayed behind again to give a standing ovation.

We are a work in progress still and it can only come together for me, barring horrendous luck with injuries.

I pray we can go on a bit of a run in the not too distant future -mainly to entice some of the stay away supporters back to the Park and ease the almighty financial strain their absence brings.

Whether we make the playoffs or just miss out, so long as we have tried our darnest and finally have a side we can be a little bit proud of then I will be content. Possibly disappointed but content, then hopefully we can all stick together and allow ScoHurst to continuing building. Moving in the right direction with a positive medium to long term plan (short term success a real bonus) we would surely reap what has been sown at some point so long as Fenty doesn't get impatient and plough it all up to start afresh.

Decent attendances would help no end and halt the forcing of the chairman's hand. Hopefully our new work ethos will encourage people to look forwards, not back and back the boys once again.

Heres hoping.

We murdered Mansfield and Histon and then gave one of the most lacklustre performances of last season at Wrexham....

I firmly believe that a series of wins regardless of the score are what matters. Never bothered Arsenal in the 90's.

The aim of argument or discussion should not be victory but progress.

how many times do we see teams win by big margns and then lose their next game?

Can't say I've noticed tbh but I have noticed that teams what get stuffed heavily often win their next game - nothing like a good reality check or kick up the @rse !

We murdered Mansfield and Histon and then gave one of the most lacklustre performances of last season at Wrexham....

A good point - I suppose the Histon rout was on the back of the Mansfield rout but we had 3 defeats(first 2 we didn't score, the last being Chasetown) after that.

Suppose my thinking was that if you get a team who can't really "open up" for fear of condeding and letting the points slip, then they might never gel into top gear.
As far as I can remember the Mansfield and Histon games weren't the walkovers the scores suggests ?
We never really looked like a potent attacking threat all season even after Histon did we ?
Anyway I accept consistency looks key - then again you don't need to be Einstein to realise lots of consecutive wins is the answer.

I'm feeling positive - it is so easy to slag people off when times are bad. I'm honestly belleve we will become a really hard to beat in this division. 4 points off the playoffs - on the up!!!

I like our chances.  A little adversity to start the season can be a good thing.
i really do want to feel positive, and it's underpinned by the defence which is starting to make me feel more encouraged.
Noooooo! this league is all about a big ball winner up front
