I remember back at the start of the season I was bold enough as to say both Green and Hanson were past it and would be a liability this season. When I said it, I was lambasted left, right and centre for suggesting such a thing. Now it seems most people are saying much the same.
Call me a soothsayer!
Green didn't score for the last 24 games of last season

I thought Hanson was excellent against Bolton last weekend, it was certainly his best game of the season. I do think people are being a touch harsh, sure he's not the most mobile of strikers and not a huge goal threat but he is effective in a specific way. He does bully defenders, he does hold the ball up and he does win headers, and and he can play a bit.

Think there’s some harsh assessments, thought he was good in his first season, he was winning the headers won stats for the league by a country mile. However, we don’t have the attacking runners or another striker to compliment him, so he’s been largely redundant this season when he’s played. Obviously had his injuries too, but he covers a hell of a lot of ground when he’s played, and keeps running the full 90 so his legs haven’t gone. I suspect yesterday’s injury is the result of the relentless fixture schedule which naturally places players at more risk of injury but especially when I players thrown into it right off the bat of recovering from an injury.
I wouldn’t be opposed to signing him for another year on less money, him or LJL would be good options in the conference but we really need a goal scorer to go alongside them.

I'm with both of you here. Genuinely baffled that people can't see what he brings to the team. The "we're too one dimensional when he's in the side" argument would be valid if we had the players that could give us an extra dimension but we don't, so it's essentially flawed.

I think Hanson is often unfairly maligned, in his time at GTFC how many times has he been able to attack a cross as a result of a winger getting behind the opponents defence? There isn't a lot he can do really trying to get on the end of a hopeful punt launched from 35 yards behind him. If we had solved the seemingly endless problem of ineffective wide men, he would have scored many more times IMO. Having said that, he isn't a lot of use if he is constantly injured, which has been the case, but I don't suppose he would have been with us in league 2 if his fitness wasn't a problem.

Agreed we haven’t played to his strengths one bit. Thought Hendrie and the lad from Forest would have been whipping those crosses in right on his head all season but it just hasn’t happened. Still a good player in my book. Should we keep him? Yes but on a significantly reduced deal.

All well & good suggesting “playing to his strengths”, but if that’s get down the wings and put decent balls in the middle then maybe we could find someone more reliable than a 33/34-year-old who spends more than half the season injured?

Or have another couple of strikers that aren't inferior lumps of the same ilk. But yeah, as said, I'm pro-Hanson but there's no possible response on the fitness issues. Everyone is bang on the money in that we can't get him onto the pitch as much as we need to and that alone is a strong enough case to not offer him a deal next season. I wonder if anyone knows if he's interested in doing his badges? Could be a savvy joint role for a season, if so. I don't really know what his deal is off the pitch, can't remember hearing him interviewed and don't really know if he's supposed to be a good egg in the changing room, etc.

Does anyone else think that Jackson Jr could be the perfect foil to play alongside Hanson?
