It’s amazing we’re getting anything above 2000 at home given the turd dished up to long-suffering home fans in the last few decades. Some of the stats I’ve seen on social media in the last few weeks make for shocking reading, all these are across the entire EFL -

Lowest goals per game average last 10 seasons:
1. GTFC (1.07 gpg)

Teams with longest run without back-to-back wins (inc prem):
4. GTFC (50 games)

Worst goal difference this century:
1. GTFC (minus 244)

Lowest goals per game at home average this century:
2. GTFC (1.24 gpg)

Most league games lost in football league history:
3. GTFC (1893)

Lowest goals per game last 5 years:
3. GTFC (1.03)

Most relegations in league history:
1. GTFC (17)

In amongst all that we’d been included in the top 5 for longest runs without a home win, longest run without an away win (13 at the time), longest overall run without a win (7) and some others.

7 times this season we’ve conceded 3 or more at home, that’s over a third of our home games. We’ve dropped 32 points from winning positions this season, the worst in the division. Had our worst result since 1948 in a spell of conceding 6, 5, 3, 2 and 5 again in consecutive home games. Started the season with 1 win in 7, then had spells of 1 win in 13, 1 win in 8 then 1 in 8 again all this season. Out of the league cup in the first round. 1 draw in the pizza cup against 10-man Man City u18s and drew away at semi-pro Slough town who were near the bottom of the national league south in the FA Cup.

And there’s people on here asking why anyone chooses to leave games early? Anyone who watches this shower on a regular basis needs a medal.

Think there are two key reasons. Firstly, we are a poor crowd at home for backing the team when they really need us I.e. when they are struggling to get into games and not playing well. It’s a bit chicken & egg, team play on front foot, get stuck in and crowd get bethel. Give away a goal, make a couple of inerrant passes and some fans are on their back straight away and think this the result of us playing pretty mediocre football in home matches for several seasons and we get frustrated that yet again our hopes for the team, the result and the performance are going to be well below the standards we rightly expect.

Secondly this current side in particular don’t appear to be able to cope with a big gate, with big expectations and a higher degree of pressure. Cartwright in particular seems on edge and that maybe is do with his age, Rogers is another who seems to crumble once he hears a couple of moans and groans. Some like Rose and I think Tharme thrive on it but too many just don’t have the cajones to turn a game and the crowd around once they fall behind. You knew today once they scored it was game over you could just feel it in the ground.

Seems years since I stood in the old Barrett Stand for a night match and the place felt alive and you could see it was the opposition that was intimidated by the crowd not are own players. Just seems a pretty soulless place most times nowadays.

To be fair we get 6000 every week now anyway, a big crowd these days just means there will be a full away end.
This squad should be used to it by now

Good God. Although most of us have lived through it in real time, to see it written down like that is startling to say the least.

Anybody under a certain age have experienced nothing but abject failure in the Football league which is a horrible thought. How we are getting nearly full home ends is one of life's mysteries.

There is a solution however. We need a good manager and good players and all will be well. The owners can change the club in their own image as much as they want, but they will only be deemed successful if they oversee success in the EFL.

They have put some much needed basics in place but obviously have to get some real quality on the pitch.

If we have been relegated 17 times and started in the 2nd tier, doesn’t that mean we must have been promoted 15 times?  If so that must rank pretty high surely? Do you have the stats on that?

Since 1998 we have also been in the playoffs 7 times and appeared in 4 cup finals. So it’s not been all doom and gloom.

Yes but only two play offs and two cup finals were in the FL. Let’s face it, we’re a yo-yo club these days despite our good support.

Each to their own and whilst they were sometimes enjoyable occasions in isolation, I’m not sure battling in the conference playoffs against the likes of Eastleigh and Braintree, or the occasional FA Trophy final loss to Halifax will really energise the next generation of town fans.

The ground's soul is well and truly gone. It does not create an atmosphere, you look at grounds with 4k attendances and the sound is better. We're in an ever aging stadia that's never really been one for an atmosphere since the 90s.

It's more to do with the crap performances and players unable to do the simple things like pass to a team mate.

But the 2022 playoff campaign just might!
