I also left after the 5th

Outfought, out thought, and had 5 put past us by the team directly above us. Its absolutely flipping disgraceful.

2-0 down in 10 mins, showed a bit of fight, but 2nd half we were horrific. And he’s got to go

A midfield of flipping Clifton Green and Andrews. A defence he has actually made worse. He brought on a young academy striker over Pyke and Wilson. He is flipping clueless and please admit you got it wrong owners and get him out

Im embarrassed, almost heartbroken. This is as bad as it gets

I have never known anyone who has had such a negative impact to a football club.  I have never connected to Artell since he came mainly because of the hyperbole he has talked. Expect more to come. He has seemingly lost the players, lost the fans and lost any respect anyone foolishly gave him.

It isn't. He's our first choice defensive midfielder. The only one who can pass and the replacement after we lost Conteh. It's very relevent.

Now is the time for JS to act and save our season. Still effectively 7 points clear of bottom two with them both to play. We have to get rid.

Resign now Artell you don't deserve another penny from town.

You must be the worst manager in our history if I was Hull's manager I would recall young Cartwright the poor lad must be shell shocked.

With a bit of luck we m might be able to avoid relegation if you go now.

Quite simply, the players aren’t playing for him. Something has gone on. Our better players aren’t even getting on the bench. No flair at all. Andrews and Green shouldn’t be in the squad never mind starting. And as for putting Obikwu on first…..

It’s absolutely mad how quickly and easily we concede goals. Croft made a great point, after 7 mins the oppositions game plan becomes 100x easier.

It’s hard to see where we go from here, I don’t see Artell as the root cause of all of this but you can’t ship this amount of goals and still keep your job.

Totally flipping shocking. Wrong team selected, how Holohan and Hunt can be behind Andrews in the pecking order is crazy. It left us very short on mobility with Him and Green together.

The first goal we made 5 challenges and didn't win any of them.
2nd goal, loose pass in the middle Andrews firm favourite for it, dallied and then fannied out of the tackle 2-0.

We get ourselves right back into it, come out 2nd half and immediately put ourselves on the back foot.

The players aren't organised, the team is unbalanced and the tactics are non existent.
I'm not usually one to call for a manager, but I 100% think the right thing to do is sack him immediately. He's made us worse, he picked up the side on a 5 game unbeaten run and has made us ultra fragile. We've gone from being competitive in games to getting spanked.

Get gone you male masturbator.

What on earth did he say to them at half time?

Although we the worst possible start, we were on top after that until half time.

We may as well not have come out after the break. An complete and utter disgrace of a second half

This is the worst team we’ve ever had. Which is really saying something. Artell needs to go immediately and we need to become solid again. The players aren’t playing for him so he has to carry the can. Having said that, these players (except for you Danny my love) are a disgrace. The majority of them are non league standard and they're losers without the will for a fight. Get through the season then get 90% of them gone.

Delighted for you. Being happy when we lose isn’t something I can really understand but if “being right” in front of a load of people who don’t know who you are is that important to you, then I’m glad you’re enjoying today’s result!

I’ll fully admit I never expected us to be this bad.

Just funny that you never seem post when anything good happens. Never say anything positive or good about anyone or anything. You only turn up when there’s been a defeat to gloat. You seem to love misery and failure.

Don’t know why you quoted me as I think Artell should go.
I was referring to davmariner who seems to be delighted we’ve been hammered calling out anyone who’s been slightly optimistic or said anything positive.

Was that after the team left and he realised he was talking to himself, gave himself a vote of confidence in the way they played and clapped all the way home?

On the other hand, it could be his resignation speech and thank the players for doing it his way.

Without a doubt the most inept sequence of Town performances I’ve seen in 44 years. Indefensible. FGR will easily beat us. He’s taking us down without any shadow of a doubt.

I wouldn't even put them at that standard, I've watched Boston a few times this season and apart from Danny Rose I wouldn't want to exchange any of the Boston lads for these spineless individuals, I won't call them players/footballers,they're not worthy of the title.

I'm surprised that Andrews is getting the stick as he was the best of the midfield three. Which isn't saying much. There is no way that Clifton and Green will ever be capable central midfielders in League football. Both fluffed easy chances to equalise and when we were doing OK and they just don't have the ability on the ball to play that role. I reckon Andrews will be a capable League player at some point. If Thompson stays fit, we've got a chance, I suppose. If not, we're going to lose midfield in every single game for the rest of the season and the chances of winning enough points in that case are slim.

I feel sorry for Obikwu to some degree as he's a kid with absolutely no experience and he's expected to come on and change things around, but little sympathy with most of the rest of them who simply aren't good enough. Even Rose missed a sitter near the end today, getting dragged down to the level of the rest of them.

Hurst built a flipping rubbish squad, Artell hasn't done much to improve it and the team are playing like a bunch of clowns at the moment. I really hope two of the three teams below us don't show any improvement whatsoever.

Pep couldn't get a tune out of this bunch so I'm not sure changing the manager would make much difference, either!

There’s only TWO teams below us now, not three.

The sad fact is that we have to play and beat those teams. On today's spectacle I don't think we can.

Don’t know why you quoted me as I think Artell should go.
I was referring to davmariner who seems to be delighted we’ve been hammered calling out anyone who’s been slightly optimistic or said anything positive.

Yes sorry put my comment / opinion  which is the same as yours "Gotta Go!" In the wrong place should have made it a new post on reading thread again. Fingers typing quicker than brain.

A real statement from Town - that they are crap. Village Green and Sutton will be confident they could beat us/catch us. DA has talked previously about Fortress Blundell Park - unfortunately it seems to have been made of straw.

left at 4-1 i cant take anymore of this bluffer & if he still in charge after that then i'll be gobsmacked , these two centre halfs are possibly the worst i'v seen doncasters centre forward dominated them throughout the game , i'm actually more concerned than i was under holloway because we have no generals in this team at all , soon as we go 1 down we go into our shells & just let the opposition score at will, please be gone mr bluffer artell when i wake in the morning

In the Stockport game we were down and out after 28 mins (3-0).  The very impressive Jones made 3 goals from left wing crosses.  We could not stop him.

Today 2-0 down after 8 mins.  As it happened, this was enough for us to be down and out.  Adelukan assisted with 3 goals, again we could not contain him.

There is a pattern here.  Not so much conceding lots of goals at home.  We did that automatically.

I mean that we are failing to chase lost games from virtually the start of the game. Combine the times for conceding 5 early goal above, and you have 36 mins.  (28 mins and 8 mins today).

Truly shocking and unforgivable.

To add,, 1 point at home from last 18, unless I lost count of the many defeats.  The point was down to a last min equaliser when we conceded 5 goals.

That was a long behind drive back to Stoke this evening.

All I can say after today is at least Sutton and Village Green lost. Thats it I can't bring myself to say any more after that excrement show.

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

I also left after the 5th

Outfought, out thought, and had 5 put past us by the team directly above us. Its absolutely flipping disgraceful.

2-0 down in 10 mins, showed a bit of fight, but 2nd half we were horrific. And he’s got to go

A midfield of flipping Clifton Green and Andrews. A defence he has actually made worse. He brought on a young academy striker over Pyke and Wilson. He is flipping clueless and please admit you got it wrong owners and get him out

Im embarrassed, almost heartbroken. This is as bad as it gets

Don’t agree with a lot of your comments but this is spot on. Exactly what position is Clifton supposed to be playing cos it aint midfield and his performances this season are the reason I have never rated him. I will say him and Green at least battle as does Rose but Christ almighty how is Eisa getting picked every week? Bringing on the young lad from Coventry was one of the worst pieces of management I have ever witnessed and it’s obvious from Pyke and Wilson’s body language when they finally came on that they agreed.

I’ve questioned previously whether or not having a Recruitment Manager has improved our squad and it’s pretty obvious that we should not only be discussing Artell’s future but also that of the RM. How the hell did we sign Smith he’s bleeding worse than Mullarkey, smaller, not good in the air, slow, not great on the ball and offers nothing going forward. Hume is no improvement on Glennon and has a much poorer delivery. Tharme had a decent twenty minutes first half but hardly provides for an adequate replacement for Waterfall and the rest of the January recruitment is quickly forgotten as Wood not deemed good enough and Thompson already, presumably, injured although he was crap anyway last week.

This team is about as good as the one we had in the late sixties when Gordon Walker led the line and we finished second bottom in Division Four. It’s a complete and utter mess.

Driving down Grimsby Road pre match you would think we were going for promotion 7500k in attendance breaks my heart to see the club relying on two clubs being worse than our lot AGAIN.

Yes the appointment hasn't worked and I can't see that it will, got to give ourselves the best chance of staying up whatever that takes.

Agree with some of that - a ridiculous decision to plunge the Cov lad into that excrement show. Also to go 4-2-4 at 3-1. Eisa just disappears - I would have hauled him at HT and put Pyke on who was going well out wide until he got injured.

The full-backs though looked perfectly competent ant Accy and what worries me is that they’ve already been infected some overall squad malaise. Utterly magnificent as Danny Rose is, I don’t think he’s right for skipper but I can’t see any leaders out there.

Then he went down the tunnel. He failed to shake hands with the ref and asst's, and also notably failed to go onto the pitch to clap the few fans left. Perhaps that is a major reason, apart from the results, that the fans no longer like him.

That's all Clifton offers though. I got pelters on X or Twitter whatever you want to call it a few weeks ago for saying Clifton is not a L2 standard central midfielder (mostly from his mates) but I stand by it. His engine is great, has a great attitude and he battles but he just isn't good enough with a football. If you actually look at his successful pass percentages each game they're regularly hovering around the 50-65% mark which is awful. And that's not including the times he takes a poor touch or is easily dispossessed because he can't control or turn with the ball. He's a great squad player to have due to his physical ability and versatility and I'm sure he's a good lad but if you're relying on him in central midfield then you're toast. I don't think I've ever seen a L2 opponent be as bad on the ball as Clifton is. Hilariously, Green is even worse!

As a perceived DA hater I actually thought after a terrible start we were unlucky not to go in level at least at ht . Vernam was best player on the pitch. But we didn’t take our chances when we had them all over the place .
Unfortunately this didn’t carry on in the second half and to say we were in disarray would be kind . Unbelievable substitutions did any chance of us getting back into it and we were battered basically. I can’t be arsed to say anything else now as I feel ill basically after that . I’ll expand tomorrow maybe but let’s just say he needs to go .

After another embarrassing opening 10 minutes, where the opposition once again score with virtually every attack they have, we actually had a good last 25 minutes of the first half.

Clifton should have scored, and so should have Green.

But let’s be honest, Green, Clifton and Andrew’s will all run all day for you, but this is a game that requires ability on the ball, and playing those 3 together, means there is zero technical ability in the middle of the park.

3 of the back 4 are also new.

Now, I know Glennon cannot defend. I saw that last season under Hurst, when he made most visiting wide rights look like Brazilian internationals. However, with 3 new defenders, why are we conceding too easily still?

For me, the answer lies in the midfield, who don’t pick up runners in the middle, and Eisa / Arthur or today it was Vernon, who do not defend in front of the fullbacks when the opposition have the ball.

Don’t care how good a full back you are, if you are overloaded and then overlapped, you’re in trouble.

Eisa is what we used to call a ‘Conner’. He makes it look like he is trying to get back to challenge, but he isn’t really. Just shadow tracking.

Those first 3/4 matches under Artel, I really did see an improvement from Hurstball and the chore that watching us under him had become. Our form was no better under Hurst by the way at the end, but we weren’t shipping 3/4/5/6 goals at home though.

I really don’t yet think we should pull the plug on Artel yet, if only because I did see something in those opening games that I liked.

I can’t see it at the moment defensively, but changing managers now leading up to Forest Green and Sutton feels like a complete step into the unknown as well.

That said, defeats away next weekend and then again after, will undoubtedly get us to that position.

For me, drop Clifton and Green and get Holohan and a fit Hunt in the middle please.

Thompson back as well and hopefully a win away next weekend to settle us down.

If not, we are 180 mins away from a new manager imho.

I didn't see as I was back in the car before the final whistle. For the second time this season.

Drop Clifton, Green but, most of all, Andrews. Thompson, Hunt and Holohan are our best technical midfielders and should start.

I've been trying to find some hope since the game finished 5 hours ago, and this is the best I've got..

Thompson looked good, hopefully he's not seriously injured

Vernam was a threat all game

And Rose is good enough to help us get a few more points hopefully

I thought our midfield 3 were all poor today. Generally, save for the odd thing they did well - really, that’s their job. I think Maher is palpably and consistently below par, the two new full backs defied their pedigrees and careers and looked weak and easily dominated and Eisa was a waste of a pick. Charles looked dangerous first half (nothing second half), and Danny Rose….I feel so sorry for him. I want to give him a hug, thank him and apologise for his teammates being so sh1t. If I was him I’d be out of here at the earliest opportunity. 100% effort at all times, and does what he’s supposed to, consistently. Look and learn the rest of you.

The selection was wrong, Clifton (everybody’s favourite RWB apparently) has been off it all season, Green is a throwback and Andrews is a fanny masquerading as a professional footballer. Eisa ( see note above about Andrews) looks like his agent had already agreed a contract elsewhere.

Everything we do just feels so contrived and easy to play against which was underlined by the 2nd Donny goal.

Rallied after the penalty and I thought we’d come out swinging but it was the opposite. After the 3rd we just gave up. BTW if that donkey Maher kicked the opposition like he kicked the post after the 3rd maybe attackers would think twice about taking the p1ss.

Then we get the classic managerial master stroke ….

50 ish minutes 1 - 3 down at home in what’s the closest we have to a derby when the “as it stands” table says we’re 90th in the pyramid what does the “highly regarded” (eff off) A license coach do?

Take off one young loanee who’s keeping a senior pro who was a big part of our last promotion out and replaces him with ???? Another young loanee who has approx 15 mins EFL experience under his belt.

Which I suspect left the players on the pitch & sat on the bench thinking WTF is the manager doing.

The rest turned into another home drubbing in front of an almost full house.

Supporters deserve better, when the manager came in he said (paraphrase) Grimsby was known as a soft place to come - he can’t fixed that one as he.

The manager and the team embarrassed themselves today but what’s unforgivable is they left the support feeling embarrassed.

1878 have done a brilliant job since they came in but they must act now, if they allow Artell to take us down they’ve failed in what is their number one objective - the betterment of GTFC.

It's absolute balderdash and people have short memories.
Missed a golden chance today, but should absolutley be first pick behind Rose.
He's the only one who breaks the lines from midfield other than occasionally Holohan when he plays and I would hazard a guess that he has most touches in both Boxes of our players.
If people think Clifton is the problem, then there's no flipping hope for us.
It's a massive problem to play Andrews who is male masturbation. Green has struggled without legs next to him and struggles to take the ball off the defence. Holohan should start over those two and it amazes me Hunt can't get on the bench.

You have to have a balance and Artell cannot get that right.

Hunt was ‘pivotal’ according to Artell after the Crewe game. A month later, he was told he could leave. Confused? Me too.

If Clifton is first name on the teamsheet after Danny Rose playing in central midfield, then yes there is no flipping hope for us because he isn't a good L2 central midfielder.

Cartwright takes a lot of stick, sometimes deservedly, but with those 4 in front of him, he's left exposed. And it doesn't matter how much you change the back 4 it's just the same.

Today he's spent the first 60 minutes playing in behind Rose, he was then put back into the middle after Andrews got hooked and we went 2 up top. Tbf I would probably agree that's not his best position, but he's still way more capable in that role than any of the other options we have.

The issues are around our organisation and balance of our chosen first team, because all our squad are fit. A luxury Hurst didn't have. Clifton's worth to the team is relentlessly discussed on here and I find it bizarre.

I’m amazed we didn’t bring a keeper in Harvey’s a good lad but this can’t be doing him any good. The alternative is Eastwood who I think probably has ability but appears to have zero confidence .

Artells old Crewe keeper was available. Quite telling he didn’t sign a single player he’s worked with before

Clifton isn’t being used to best effect; nor is he noticeably benefiting from any of Artell’s coaching. He expended a lot of energy today,to pretty much no effect defensively ior offensively. Everyone except Rose and Vernam looked like they didn’t know what they were doing today.

Clifton's a good squad player to have and great in games where you want to make it scrappy like we should have done against Stockport. He's fantastic in transition and really good at nicking the ball with his pressing which is very good. However, he is poor on the ball for a L2 midfielder. He doesn't have the ball control to receive and turn in tight areas and his passing is also pretty poor. I genuinely can't remember seeing him make a successful long pass, his successful pass completion is on the low side and I've never seen him slide a perfectly weighted ball in for someone. Case in point against Notts where his energy was great but twice in the first half he won the ball back in a position only to completely mess up relatively easy passes. His awareness and positioning is also not very good when he's playing centrally, rarely showing for the ball from the defenders.

He did really well for us in the promotion season when there was better quality around him and he was coming in from the left. We had Taylor, McAtee, Fox and Sousa who were all good on the ball so it was less of an issue that he isn't. It also meant he could make a lot of runs forward which he's generally pretty good at and he times them well. He also seems to be far better when the game is quick, more often than not making the right decision when he's rushed whereas when he has thinking time he tends to mess it up.

If you have two very good ball players around Clifton in the middle then he could get away with being in there and offering energy to disrupt the opposition. But I personally feel he's better out wide. Unfortunately we don't have any quality on the ball in the middle other than Hunt and potentially Thompson so it's a damning indictment of how poor we are that Clifton is still probably one of our starters in central midfield despite not being good enough for L2 in that position.

I’d have to presume that Thompson is injured or ill. To not be in the squad when the manager has brought you in because you’re apparently better than players you inherited would just be insane. As would saying you don’t need a plan b, then trying to claim credit for doing something you don’t do or need, and then crowning that by saying you hadn’t prepared for that in training. What a staggeringly dumb self own and demonstration that you don’t know what you’re doing could you want?! Just babbling ineptitude you’ve inadvertently illustrated.

I don’t get his logic, arrive at a club who are soft touch and losing games the first task is to build confidence by fixing the defence & keeping a few clean sheets.

Artell’s approach of let’s outplay the opposition belongs on fantasy island.

Thompson is injured. Was doing fitness test on pitch beforehand. Anyway, can’t add anymore about today that hasn’t already been said - and it’s pretty much been said spot on - one thing I did notice (I always remember small things that seem insignificant at the time) - think it was their 3rd or 4th goal, can’t remember which, Hume (who was ok in general I thought) had a go at Eisa for not tracking back (rightly so) ..instead of engaging or answering back Eisa just turned around and ignored.. which was testament to his effort. Half arsed.  Absolutely no unity, bond in this squad this season. Sticks out like a sore thumb.

It was for their third. Eisa allowed them to have a 2 on 1 and an easy cross which Maher deflected in.

No, people don't have short memories, Clifton's a dreadful footballer and he's never had a good game in central midfield. All his best performances have come as a wide midfielder because he's got zero vision beyond seeing what's immediately in front of him, he severely lacks composure and has poor technical ability. He has an engine and that's it.

Eisa shouldn’t be in the team. He’s not a team player.  Never passes, never crosses, always looks to shoot - he’s been found out by the opposition after his August purple patch. He should be dropped, he’s exactly the sort of selfish player who gets teams relegated.

Our players’ reaction to most goals we concede is similar.

You might see the likes of Maher doing a hammy, half-hearted, token punch of despair but there is a worrying lack of…well…anything.

Doncaster’s 5th goal.

Smith is isolated but all he has to do is show Hurst on to his left foot.

Nope. Not Smith. Just lets Hurst cut inside on to his stronger right foot. Smith somehow gets his body position so wrong he’s facing the Donny fans in the Osmond, and then dangles a leg to try to block the shoot.

I mean, Cartwright should save it but how the fǔck has Smith not shown Hurst down the line.

Why isn’t a teammate giving Smith shït for it. I don’t like to see players arguing on the pitch but you have to draw the line somewhere.

The answer is that virtually all of our players are gutless fännies, pull out of tackles and don’t track runners, so few of them can exactly take the moral high ground.

Smith absolutely wasn’t towns first choice for a right back, we were in for Lewis Cass who went to Stockport instead. I’m not sure anyone can blame him for that, he then proceeded to score on his debut against us.

I’m not saying Efete or Amos were anywhere near good enough for L2 but I genuinely think Efete is better defensively than any current Town defender (inability to protect the far post and all).

Efete and Amos paid the price for Rodgers, Maher, Mullarkey, Glennon and the other bunch of thick, half-arsed wǎnkstains we’ve brought in being on longer contracts and more expensive to get rid of.

It was just a total embarrassment today and the second time in recent memory that Donny have handed us our ar$es. Think it was 5-1 before as well, but at least they were top of the league the last time and had the best striker in the division.

Today we were not even second best to a supposedly poor Doncaster team, who were so much better than us it was shocking.

They can't have had an easier game for years.

Nothing to be said about the match, the worst period of supporting town in my life. The first time ever in about 45 years I decided to leave early. Coincidentally. My daughter was walking down Grimsby Road, so we decided to meet. We walked in the Grimsby direction to meet her and then turn back to head to Cleethorpes. I stood in the biggest pile of dog crap I have ever seen. There was so much i very nearly slipped, it was everywhere. I think this was karma for leaving early but the home record was very much to blame utm

I think you can add Waterfall to that list too. By no way am I suggesting that he wasn't ready to move on, far from it. But once again, be it under Hurst or someone else, we've replaced players with downgrades.

I actually thought Hume did OK today but looks ring rusty. But other than him, Artell's transfer business is woeful. Smith looks a pub footballer, Tharme incredibly limited, Thompson is made of glass, Wood clearly is too lightweight and Obikwu looks like he's won a competition.

After that initial flurry and hope, we've got progressively worse under Artell.  Not just in terms of actual ability but more worryingly in terms of aptitude for a fight. That was honestly the meekest defeat I've seen in 35 years of watching Town. We just rolled over and had our bellies tickled by a really, really excrement side.

I'm still adamant that we're not leaky because of a style of play. Although his post game interview was another nail in his coffin, Artell was right when he put back to JT that it's errors and basics that are costing us, not the style.   But it begs the question why the intercourse can't players do the absolute basics at the minute? We do the basics and we're not losing games.

But I'm not even sure what our style is now. Early doors it was clear we were going to be expansive, aggressive, pressing, quickly turning over play and moving freely with and without the ball.  Last month of so we're just excrement, minus the excitement of the attack.

Glennon and Mullarkey were defensive liabilities but at least they offered bits going forward. Smith and Hume look scared of going over the half way line. Rodgers, again, a liability but wants to bring it forward. Tharme wouldn't know a forward pass if it hit him on his nose.  A midfield of Green, Clifton and Andrews has no creativity at all, hell based on that performance it has no footballing ability at all either.  I get that they're not part of his future plans, but Holohan and Hunt offer something for the here and now that the aforementioned 3 don't. We're in a state where we need something, be it a bit of drive from Holohan or something creative from Hunt. It's not as if any of Green, Andrews or Clifton are going to part of a bigger picture under Artell beyond the summer is it? Genuinely not sure what he's trying to achieve in persisting with them (and others).

Eisa isn't interested and frankly can intercourse off for me. That he's in the side ahead of Arthur is baffling. Yes, he's scored goals.... But his overall contribution is zero otherwise. Unless he's scoring at least one goal a game he's of no benefit to the team.

Vernam is the only recent addition to the starting eleven in recent weeks who is adding something. Everything else is backward steps.

The point when I lost all faith with Artell was when he opted for Obikwu off the bench ahead of two guys in Wilson and Pyke who have genuinely good goal returns this season. It's harsh on Obikwu as he's only a kid, but he's really excelling in that competition for the worst young loanee from an elite Academy award. I didn't think the likes of Tom Dickson-Peters and Kiki Simmonds could be beaten but this lad is smashing them out the park. At least Dickson-Peters and Simmonds were of a squad that had little alternative. You could almost forgive Hurst for going with them when the other option was throwing Shaun Pearson up top.

Artell's post game interview clearly saw him go from a man who blindly believed we won't go down to someone who has suddenly realised and is panicking.  Talking about cup finals and doing it for the club staff etc. is hopeful at best.  I was fortunate enough to play on BP a few days after the last home game of the 09/10 relegation season. The home dressing room was filled with good luck letters and cards from fans, all pinned up around the walls. Absolute desperation and with hindsight pitiful. Artell's rally reminded me exactly of that. It might not be his team fully but he's sure as hell picking it. There isn't a single position on the pitch where he's not got alternatives yet isn't using them. If he's resorting to such desperate cries of 'do it for the tea lady' and isn't getting a tune, why the hell is he not switching it up?

My old man said at the end of the game, I think half-joking, that he wants to see the Youth Team lads start the next game. I'm genuinely struggling to disagree with him on that. With the exception of Vernam and Rose, maybe Hume at a push, I wouldn't be gutted to see all of the Starting XI against Donny told to urine off and prove in training that they want it. The sad thing is he could actually do it, or very close to it. Eastwood, Mullarkey, Glennon, Rodgers, Khouri (back soon I think), Holohan, Hunt, Arthur, Wilson, Pyke.  There's almost a team there of out of favoured players. Is it the best team? Probably not. But it can't be any worse.

There's still 15 games left to improve things and I think we've seen enough in flashes from this team to suggest they can do better. But the worry is 15 game is a long old time to hold onto a 6 point cushion.  Those FGR and Sutton games in the space of a week are massive.  FGR have Tranmere next week and Sutton have Colchester, possibly a draw the best result for us to keep them still in it. But we have to get 6/6 in those two games. Normally I'd say just avoid defeat but the remainder of the fixture list fills me with dread.

Just to be clear the player you arre saying is great (Andrews) Is worse by your own judgement than (Clifton and green) as he can t make those goal scoring opportunities even not scoring them. So a it's irrelevant to now we want to avoid relegation,.but. Plus it's excrement anyway when we want players better than we have and he already isn't!

Keep Rose (although we might have to chain him up to a goalpost at cheapside all summer to do so) and keep vernam and pay the rest up.

Goalkeeper never makes a save just seems to find a way of moving out the way of everything.

Defenders don’t defend we stand off and allow shots thinking said goalkeeper has to eventually make a save.

Midfielders that midfield three today probably would struggle to get a regular game for Cleethorpes Town.

Strikers Danny Rose I apologise you was sold a timeshare scam in the summer and now you’re locked in. And I think we all saw yesterday that the Coventry lad is just another one who looks like he’s won a competition to play.

We have to go 532 asap. There’s one reason you play 3 centre halves and that’s because the two aren’t good enough and none of our combinations of two are good enough.
Hume looks decent going forward but I’m not sure he can defend and a wing back role with cover behind should suit him. Play Clifton right wing back since he has such a ‘engine’ and at least that means we don’t have to watch him butcher playing centre midfield anymore because clearly he has it in his contract he has to play every game because he’s a Grimsby lad.

                                 Cartwright
              Mullarkey      Tharme     Rodgers
Clifton                                                           Hume
                                 Thompson

Can anybody in all honesty say a back five of crocombe efete amos waterfall maher/ smith wasn't streets ahead of this load of tosh , i blame hurst in the first instance for getting rid of a great lge 2 keeper who is now proving his worth in lge above , the fullbacks & centre backs we have now are non lge at best , i actually think rodgers & waterfall was the best pairing but wasn't given enough time , maher as been woefull all season he just cant defend at all & he been involved in all these goals conceded , eastwood not great but young cartwright needs taking out his confidence is shot playing behind these clowns

Honestly,  Clifton will run all day for you, but he couldn't trap a bag of sand or pass wind successfully!!..
He may have the most touches in the box but he doesn't do anything with them, if he were not "one of our own" I'm convinced most supporters would see  how poor of a footballer be actually is..

Like you’ve pointed out & has been said elsewhere, defending both as individuals and as a unit is just non-existent. I wasn’t too bothered in the week but now my head’s absolutely fallen off, well and truly. Either Artell goes or we are done I reckon.

Then he went down the tunnel. He failed to shake hands with the ref and asst's, and also notably failed to go onto the pitch to clap the few fans left. Perhaps that is a major reason, apart from the results, that the fans no longer like him.

Or maybe because he was getting dogs abuse for the best part of the match.

There’s a much deeper problem here the squad is miles off the level it needs to be to comfortably stay in this league.

Away from Chas (potentially) & Rose can you look beyond the 11 that started yesterday and say you can identify 2 or 3 consistent decent players who could come in and make us better? Almost every player in this squad can’t string 2 decent halves of football together never mind decent games.

Which then begs the wider point about investment, reliance on data & the value of Joe Hutchinson as the recruiter. Despite what some people think Hutchinson doesn’t sign players but he does identify them and put them in front of the manager, and I suspect outlines the cost to get their signature. You have to say Conteh, & Rose apart Joe’s not knocked us out has he?

Then you have to ask the question about investment, if we had a decent budget we’ve been massively stitched up by agents and we’re paying these donkeys much more money than they’re worth. If we didn’t have the money then I’d question why? I know money has been spent on & set aside for BP but if you get what you pay for then we can have had much to spend.

Looking at this squad you could expect start a sentence with “in defence of Artell……..” but though the squad is poor he can’t recognise that and try & set us up to not be so soft, instead he’s gone total football with players that struggle to play football at this level. His arrogance is off the chart & he’s making it worse every week.

The other thing that resonates is that the owners bang on about culture but other than Rose, Clifton, maybe Gav, Shaun, Ben and possibly Steve Croudson I’m not sure I can identify anyone who appears truly invested in GTFC, I guess that’s how football works now.

It’s written in the stars, last day of the season Orsi a player not deemed worthy of the playing out revolution scores the winner to send us down - irony in spades.

We are so far off being able to win a game of football I’d be amazed if we don’t go down.

We all took the p1ss when the Scunts went down, so I just hope like hell they don’t get promoted as karma is a horrible b@stard.

To all the people praising Clifton and Holohan…

You’re wrong.

Both are totally inept as central midfielders at this level.

I think Liam Rosenior hit the nail on the head a week or so ago talking about his Hull side. He spoke about players winning their individual duals.

If you strip back Clifton and Holohan and ignore the poor decision making, inadequate passing ability and poor positional intelligence what you are still left with 2 midfielders who never (and I mean never) win their individual dual/battle against the midfielder they are up against.

They both have a good engine and can add a few goals bursting into the box, but when you contrast that with the damage their weaknesses go to us then the negatives massively outweigh their positives.

I’m not saying we have a glaringly better solution to our midfield woes, but Holohan and Clifton in their when we don’t have a leader along side them doesn’t work.

The total lack of leaders in our biggest problem. Danny Rose being captain is a damning inditement on the rest of the squad.

I’d rather have Gav in there than any other of our options. Limited he may well be, but he at least creates and pops up with a goal.

Agree on Rose though, as much as I like him, leader he is not. We are 11 strangers on a football pitch

That's just nonsense. They're the only two in the squad who do win Battles, the issues yesterday were others not doing the same. Look at the first goal, 5 challenges not one won.

The 2nd goal, loose pass from Clifton, Andrews is massive favourite to win it, waves a leg at it, loses is it, gets passed by Clifton who started 15 yards behind him.
I don't think Andrews won a battle all game, watch the first two minutes of the 2nd half again and it completely shows what Andrews is about, within a minute he's been megged on the halfway line and hasn't made any physical contact with the player who's done it.

Both Clifton and Holohan got 9 goals each last season, were part of a team that was 11th and got the the quarter final of the cup.
The issues are with team selection and players not knowing and doing their jobs.

I think this just strengthens the argument for him to go though. It’s unpleasant and unseemly for anyone representing our club to be involved in verbal abuse exchanges. It’s harmful to all parties. It’s not the kind of club we should want to be. You can see him during the game; yelling angrily, seemingly arguing with staff and officials, not watching the game and calmly prompting. It’s just toxic and unhelpful. Then he storms off petulantly. No sportsmanship or politeness or professionalism. It’s giving a distasteful account of us as an organisation. It’s ugly. Everyone can see it and feel it. The owners can’t want to be be associated with, and represented by, those kind of spectacles. That conduct. That culture. It’s got to end now. It gives us no platform to fix anything. It’s poisonous.

Know how you feel.

I'm keeping my head down over here for a few days and then off on holiday. Watching some Maltese amateur league football next weekend. It will be far more enjoyable.

Someone I travel in with for home games has seen his last match this season and a group who do nearly all the away games have handed their Morecambe tickets back.

I can at least watch Brentford. They're not having a happy season either but are still enjoyable to watch most of the time. At least they compete.

When I was stood in blazing sunshine at Town Hall Square for the promotion celebrations  I hoped we would never go through this again.

250 mile round trip, same as last one, other than the opposition being even lower in the table. Don't have words to explain how I felt going home. We need to get rid of this manager now, today sack him on grounds of being unable to do his job which is to win football matches. New manager, doesn't matter who, they could not do worse surely.
As for the players, Rose looked fooooked and seriously like he was about to cry after the 4th went in. Eisa is Hulme looks ok, Vernam had a decent game then got hoiked off, WHY? (remember I am not a Vernam fan) Maher looks lost, Cartwright has no protection, the replacement for Conte (who it now shows was so very important to our midfield) is obviously a sick note job, the right back was constantly having to cover 2 players due to midfield not knowing where to stand out of possession and we gift the opposition a 2 goal start every game by passing the ball to them in our own half.

Don't disagree with any of that but Vernam is coming back from injury and it's been mentioned that he needs to be managed in order to keep him fit so he was never gonna play the full 90 today, Artell can't be blamed for that.

Everything else tho yeah I agree

Just to be clear the player you arre saying is great (Andrews) Is worse by your own judgement than (Clifton and green) as he can t make those goal scoring opportunities even not scoring them.

Please do point out where I said Andrews was great. Unless, of course, you're making stuff up in your head.

Andrews was the best of the three yesterday but I never claimed he was even anywhere near good. He does generally look capable of controlling the ball and making simple passes most of the time, which isn't something which can be said for Clifton and Green. Ideally, we'd have better players available to field in place of any of them. I'm unimpressed with Hunt (he loses possession too often) but would bung him in right now because he couldn't do any worse than the rest of them. Ultimately, unless Thompson can come in and stay fit, I'm not really sure just what we can do to make us even marginally competitive in the middle. It's very depressing.

Oh, I suppose that Ainley has a lot of experience so ought to be able to improve things, but who knows how close he might be to making a comeback?

The irony

Come back when the Yanks & Nates stop plugging your annual 3 to 4 million shortfall mate , they will eventually .

Don't be fooled without them propping you up , you wouldn't be far off the same scenario as us .

Reading your little Vital forum is a bit of a laugh I must admit ,the self proclaimed Real Madrid of Lincolnshire you would think the way those morons go on about the 5* infrastructure at  Lincoln City and how 'Sinny Bank ' is the gold standard stadium that any lower league club should look to emulate  - it's not much further ahead than the relic that is BP with it's funny little (1 big) stands .

Unbelievably this sad, little man has been triggered by someone offering mild criticism of his club’s ground. Just how small is your tackle if you’re this insecure?

I've been trying to find some hope since the game finished 5 hours ago, and this is the best I've got..

Thompson looked good, hopefully he's not seriously injured

Vernam was a threat all game

And Rose is good enough to help us get a few more points hopefully

And where are we going to find eight half decent players to play along side of those three.?

I've always been unimpressed with Hunt because, for a technically gifted player, he's sloppy in possession and needlessly gives the ball away too often during games. However, at least he's technically gifted, so has a chance of doing something positive with the ball, unlike our other current midfield options who also give it away needlessly. Hence why I'm saying I'd prefer to see him playing at present.

Because normally, gobby little shits like you are only supporters when the club is successful. You wouldn’t have been the type of fan to come to Blundell Park unless you was doing well. As soon as reality returns, you’ll disappear into the void, never to be heard from again.
