I just think it was a pretty reckless comment that has the potential to bite him and us on the arsé.

Plenty on here said that Neil Woods wouldn't take us down in 2012, and also many who said Paul Hurst wouldn't take us down in 2021 and they turned out to look really stupid.

What relevance does this have to here and now? I don't see what point you're trying to make.

Offering an opinion - which may or may not turn out to be wrong - is what a football forum is all about.

Chris Sutton knows more about football than most on here. Check out how many of his result predictions for the BBC are correct on average.

Time has clouded your mind there - who on earth thought we’d stay up when Woods went 25 games without a win?!! We ALL knew we were going down that year.

Whether Artell says we’ll definitely stay up or that we’re in a relegation battle is irrelevant to me.

If we go down he looks no better having said there was a threat of relegation or guaranteed to stay up - we’ve still gone down & that’s all that’ll matter.  Exactly the same if we stay up (by the skin of our teeth or comfortably), you remember that, not some interview in December.

However, for the mindset of the players when he came in, low on confidence & in need of a boost - of course he’s going to say something like “we won’t go down with this group”
