A lot of talk about him when they had their short stay at Ipswich.
Did not hear anything about Hurst but the players did not like Doig.
A bit of a bully was the players dislike of him.
My info came from our postman at the time who was a season ticket holder
Who had a mate who was in the squad.
The ones who like to red cross please state how you know otherwise.

I just think doig could have a managers type influence around the squad ..and you can't have 2 captains steering the same ship.

There was an interview with Kieran Dyer (who was on the Ipswich coaching staff during Hurst and Doig’s brief reign) recently, and he spoke very well of both of them. Can’t find a link but it was posted on here.

That doesn't fit the prevailing mood. Everything from posh scotch eggs up has been blamed, so now it's the turn of Doig for a spell in the stocks.

Already aware Doig is a problem for some of the players (long before this poor run) but do I believe this is where our issue is? No not at all.

With certain managers and assistants there's no mistaking who's the gaffer ie Buckley Arthur Mann. With these 2 I'm just not sure .also seems to me there may be a hyrachie at the club with certain players. Is this normal ? im just not sure. I just feel this runs deeper than Hursts mangament style and decisions.

Doig was not universally popular first time around and plenty wanted him gone. Supposedly a negative influence in the changing room. But he's Hurst's main man, so if he is the problem then it surely falls on Hurst anyway

I don't think Pete said that .
He didn’t. He inferred that Dyer would have no choice but to say nice things about Hurst and Doig in public. I was merely illustrating, albeit using a word you don’t like, that there are subtle ways of avoiding saying nice things about people without having to launch into full on abuse.

Let me explain myself.
1. I did not call Doig a girl private. only a bit of a bully.
2. Most players will tell you of flare ups in the changing room with items and punches thrown about. I did not say that either.
3. It was not a plate of chicken that broke Bonnetti's cheekbone it was Laws fist and he did not get the sack !!!!!
4. I have been polite in my dislike to Hurst staying but have asked others posters to be polite when talking about him.
5. I don't like bullies but if I thought a person was one there is nothing wrong in calling him a bit off a bully.
6. I hate the word girl private and would never use it when talking about anybody.

Ok. So for example Steve Croudson didn't sign the two goalkeepers, so what if he is improving the two that are there. If you don't know it's difficult to comment.

Educated, informed, balanced opinion there. Yep, let’s recruit at least 4 new staff at once, about whom you know f**k all, but leave the manager in place, and then try to recruit to all those posts quickly. Just nonsense.

And you think you are right all the time, which is commonly known as having an opinion, same as with everyone. My opinion doesn't match the prevailing one, so I'm an opinionated sap. I stuck up for Hurst the last time the witch hunt started and he came through. Doesn't mean he will this time, or that I was right, but neither does getting a new manager in suddenly mean we will start flying up the league. The owners said last time the knives were out, they didn't even contemplate terminating his employment because the performances and stats were pretty good, and I suspect they may be feeling the same now, but if they decide to make a change, then fine. Until that point, I will carry on supporting him, and no amount of bleating by fans is going to change a thing, unless and until the board decide to act. Time for a break methinks.

I don’t think I’m right at all, unlike Saint Ginny, I have an opinion that a manager has a shelf life and Paul Hurst has reached his time. I also think Doig is as Pete described him and casts a shadow on Hurst’s achievements, much as Scott did before him.

What's this shelf-life thing? Do they curdle after a while? Are we going to have to bring in more cleaners to get the rotten dairy stench out? Managers are human. They intercourse up, and learn. No one is perfect, and the things that people are drunk off about, Hurst probably is also. Unfortunately no decision is made in hindsight, and some mistakes cannot always be rectified immediately. Hurst is the manager at present, and he picks the assistant. We do not know what he does in training. Sounds like he can be assertive with players, and I think if players are repeatedly making similar mistakes, I don't think it is necessarily a bad thing if it's done in a professional manager. I'm sure most players won't want to get excrement if they weren't giving their all in training, but it doesn't mean it doesn't warrant it. Pep Guardiola when talking about Arteta said he often learnt off Arteta (rather than Arteta getting everything from Pep), and does with every assistant he brings in. We don't know what feedback Doig gives that has probably paid off, or he's spotted things that Hurst missed. We only know that Hurst feels he benefits from having him in his coaching team, and we have very little information to make an informed decision on this.

Eastwood has gone backwards from what? Crocombe came to us as a keeper on the downward, possibly National League was his level. He left two years later and is a quality League 1 keeper. Are you suggesting we aren't responsible for that ?

Eastwood has gone backwards from what? Crocombe came to us as a keeper on the downward, possibly National League was his level. He left two years later and is a quality League 1 keeper. Are you suggesting we aren't responsible for that ?
I'm going to argue that for the most part the player is responsible for that. I coach goalkeepers and I'm half decent at it (at best). The nature of goalkeeping, being the isolated and specialist position it is means that goalkeepers will only get out of it what they put in. A good goalkeeper coach will help progress the development of the coach but if a 'keeper doesn't apply them-self to their own development then they'll go so far. Crocombes form last season could have included many factors including (but not limited to) lack of confidence following an error or singular poor performance, over-confidence and the lack of competition allowing him to 'sack it off', personal issues away from football or a desire/aspiration to move on (doesn't seem logical to drop in form when looking to move higher but I'd suggest it can make you take your eye off the ball a little). It's also possible that over-coaching led to mental fatigue or confusion, or under coaching led to a lack of sharpness. Ultimately a mix of things will no doubt have been at hand, but essentially his improvement over time would have been largely down to him and his subsequent drop in form would have been personal to him. Our involvement will have some impact but not so much as the player himself.

Crocombe was a strange one because, towards the back end of last season, he handled the ball like a bar of soap. That Bradford match (in dry conditions), I think he gave up using his hands and just tried to block the ball with anything to keep it out. It was a bizarre performance. Almost the keeper equivalent of the yips. I’d be interested on your take on Eastwood’s footwork. At times it looks like he’s waddling along in a three legged race by himself. I don’t know if he’s constipated but he has that air about him. I hope Doig’s Dulcolax does the trick sharpish.

Hurst has employed Doig as his assistant five times. Here (twice), Shrewsbury, Ipswich and Scunny.
Does anyone really think that if Doig had caused issues with the players, which ultimately leads to Hurst getting the sack and/or tries to impose his authority over Hurst, both of which have been suggested in this thead, then Hurst would continue to employ him?

Jeez, what should he have done? Sacked Scott himself? He had about 10 minutes management experience at that point too.

I would not think Doig has done anything other than follow orders.
Hurst might have said , " I want to play good cop bad cop when needed and I am the good cop "
So Doig used his size to gee. some of the lads up and Hurst puts his arm round some of the more sensitive ones.
I don't know if this true but it's a ploy a lot of managers use.

Indeed. Complete difference between joint managers and manager/assistant.

Exactly. Hurst might as well have tried to sack the manager of Tesco.

Isn’t Good Cop Bad Cop well past it’s sell by date as an interrogation strategy…and management style?

So, which one of them slams the players' balderdash in a drawer when they haven't been playing well?

Think the drawer broke early September and hasn't been fixed.
