Really good news and thoroughly deserved.

Up there with the best loans we've had.

Not quite for me if you’re talking best loans ever, although he was excellent, so would deserve his place if you’re talking relatively recent loans.

Which begs the question who would you have down as the best ever (if it’s not Smith) ?

Dave Beasant and Andy Todd jump out at me without thinking about it too much.

Definitely beasent and Todd in there. But also super Clive and, when he was on loan first, Neil woods was sensational.

Honourable mention to Nigel jemson as well.

Jemson was nowt special. I remember seeing him hit the bar from 6 yards at Oxford with the whole goal gaping.

In the short time he was here Dean Henderson was pretty good.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

John Oster's first loan spell was incredible. Carried the team.

Not quite as good in his second but still decent.

They turned to excrement once they were permanent, but Barry Conlan and Peter Sweeney were exceptional and very impactful loans. Very, very honourable mention to Wayne Henderson at the same time too.
