A shame, I liked Orsi & felt like he was improving. Saying that we probably need better, although you can guarantee he’ll score against us next season.

Surprised he passed the medical after that horrendous back injury he sustained at Southampton!

"Falls to Arnold... Arnold! That's it! Thats it! He's sealed it! Grimsby Town are back in the football league!!! Just a minute to go and Nathan Arnold makes it 3-1! Look at the scenes behind the goal! Look at the relief! The agony is finally over!!!"

I'm not happy about this. On the rare occasions Hurst actually let him start games he looked like a clever and productive player. 1 goal and 3 assists in 4 FA Cup starts all against much higher opposition! If Crawley actually play him regularly he'll do very well for them.

Mixed feelings. He went missing for large portions of his appearances in the league, but showed glimpses of his potential during that fantastic cup run. Brilliant in both games against Luton, and then that penalty at St Mary's will go down in Town folklore for its sheer ridiculousness and hilarity.

There was a part of me that hoped he might kick on for Town this season and repeat his cup performances in the league to prolific effect. There was probably a larger part of me that felt that was unlikely, so all-in-all the decision for him to move on probably just about makes sense. He could go to Crawley and either barely get a sniff of first-team action or score double figures - neither would massively surprise me.

Ultimately, a trier who left a mark on GTFC history, which is more than plenty of his predecessors have done. You can't not wish the lad well.

He would be 4th or 5th choice striker , a bits and pieces forward who did well in the cups and was a decent bloke .

But if we are to kick on we need better , assuming Hurst has got a striker with a physical presence lined up of better quality .

Hopefully Orsi does well at Crawley , but they are a basket case in reality so will have his work cut out .

Hopefully we got a tidy little fee.

Despite some debate about his actual height (no way he's 6ft 2"), Orsi was still the tallest striker we had on our books. Does his exit indicate that we're about to bring in a big number 9 type or merely that Hurst doesn't intend to play with a traditional focal point up top?

Clever player with a goal in him and clearly has a football brain, but I don't think he was a PH type. His lack of game time confirmed that, and he was often overlooked for young loanees, which I found strange.

Maybe he pushed for a move, knowing nothing would change this season.

I liked him and wish him well.

When you think about the quality of the wingers we have brought in, along with Khan, Hurst could be changing 'us' shape and wanting the wingers to be pinging crosses in for someone to get their nut on the ball.

Wouldn't surprise me if we don't go for a number 10 this year, just have two target men up in the box.

Disappointed on this one. Intelligent player, very aware of players around him, good movement......just take that Donny away performance as an indication of his ability /effectiveness .

Wish him all the best 👍

If that’s the plan, I hope we’re close to finding them.  It’s the one area we seem to have found tough in recruitment and there don’t seem to be loads of players available of that ilk.

Inevitable really with all the forward players he’s brought in.

This doesn't surprise me at all. Hurst was picking simmonds, pepple, richardson, etc instead of Orsi for the bench or first team on plenty of occasions.  He also sent them all back as not good enough, that tells you Hurst was far from convinced by him. In my opinion he didn't take his chances when he was played in the league, although he didn't get many chances, in those he did he looked quite mediocre.

However he was superb in the cup which shows there is a player in there. His intelligent reaction to that punch in the back from the southampton defender is what won us that game, gave us such incredible memories and earn the club a small fortune from the quarters.

Good luck to the lad, I'm genuinely not sure how he will get on at Crawley. Thanks for those cup performances Orsi!

Agree, would have liked to see him play with a Taylor 21/22 type player, or 2 up front with Rose. Magnificent over the 2 games v Luton.

Only makes sense to me if do now bring in better

Ultimately, other than some decent performances in Cup games, he didn't do enough when given a chance in the league, so I'm not too surprised he has left. I thought he'd probably be heading into the National League truth be told, so good for him that a League club has come in for him. Makes life easier for Hurst as I think we'd struggle to fit him in this season given the types of forwards we've signed so far.

Of course, he's guaranteed to score against us, so let's hope our other attackers can score at least a couple when we face Crawley!

He did great in the Cup games where endeavour was the order of the day but he never really cut it in the League. I wish him well, the effort was always there, he never let his head drop and that’s a lot more than some managed in the past.

This is a weird one for me as I think it’s probably the right footballing decision for us but emotionally he just seemed a town player if that makes sense. Perhaps not the goal scorer we was after but on the rare occasion he did get on the pitch he was a trier and never lacked effort and a really likeable fella. I wish him well and personally hope he goes on to have a good season for himself.

Thanks for the (short) but sweet memories Danilo and when you decide to hang up them boots a degree in Drama wouldn’t go  amiss after the beautiful antics at St.Mary’s

I imagine his contribution per minute was higher than both Taylor and McAtee last season. I know there's far more to football than goals and assists, but with the exception of Lloyd we didn't have anyone up front who did enough up there.

The difference between Orsi and the others is that he didn't get a sustained chance. Even when we were pretty much begging for something different up there. McAtee and Taylor continued to be picked even when contributing nothing.

He's gone and it was always on the cards. I fancy that we'll look back in 12 months and see this as the right move. But, for whatever reason, I don't think he had a fair crack of it here.

When was he given a chance in the league? He only started 5 league matches all season and the first time he started two games consecutively was in the 4th and 3rd from last matches of the season.

If you add up his (very low) minutes played across the season and divide it by his total goals and assists (4 + 4 = 8 ) he averaged a goal or assist every 140 minutes played. The only other player in our squad last season coming close to that sort of attacking output was George Lloyd.

Good luck to him.

Scored goals in his non league days but didn't score goals for us or Harrogate. He was often anonymous in games and didn't turn his hard work into an end product.

Seemed a good bloke so I genuinely hope he does well.

But not against us.

Like Orsi, and I’ve banged on about that for a while - would have liked him to stay as think there’s something there. But it’s a deal to go back South which you’d guess is something he probably wanted and we get a fee,  best for all parties.

Again, I liked him but let’s not pretend what our main gripe was last season - strikers and goals. He scored 4 in 32 and has some way to go to prove himself at this level, are we in a position to wait? Looking around some of the main people annoyed by this (by no means all) are the same that were the biggest critics of our forward options last year. I think Hurst is being very clinical in this window.

Thanks for the memories Dan, you’ll be fondly remembered!

This is deeply misleading way of representing his attacking output - he played 1119 minutes total last season, equivalent to just over 12 full matches. With 4 goals and 4 assists in that time he's averaged a goal and assist nearly every 3 games played.

Or at the very least, are about to add better options. As it stands, Abo Eisa and Donovan Wilson are our tallest forwards at a middling 5ft 11”.

This may well simply be a symptom of the tactical luddite that I am, but it would be a source of mild concern to me if we went into the season in that position.

Orsi was a bit over 6 feet tall, but barely looked like he'd win a header. If our relatively diminutive forwards are the way we're heading, I agree that having the option of a bigger lump to chuck on up front might be helpful, but Orsi was never that sort of a player

Truth be told, I'm not too bothered about him leaving. He offered absolutely nothing in his rare appearances prior to the Cup run and, though I agree he looked very calm on the ball when he took his few goals, I don't think he really offered enough in the League games that I saw. Would probably do better alongside a target man, but we don't seem to be planning to play with one of those. It looks like pace, power and nouse are where we're heading, so I hope rest of the players remember not to whack it straight up the middle!

Of course, I agree with all that, but since the end of last season we’ve lost our two tallest forwards in Ryan Taylor and Danilo Orsi and George Lloyds who, whilst fairly short, was deceptively good in that regard. I know Danny Rose is similar in style to Lloyd, it just feels that height and physicality are the obvious gaps among our current attacking options.

Plenty of time left to address that, of course.

This is deeply misleading way of representing his attacking output - he played 1119 minutes total last season, equivalent to just over 12 full matches. With 4 goals and 4 assists in that time he's averaged a goal and assist nearly every 3 games played.

Fair point, and probably a touch hypercritical of me as I make the same argument when people quote stats for strikers aswell - so yep my bad.

Point I was really trying to make though is with a poorish forward line he didn’t stake much of a claim to the team. Maybe that’s something PH has seen in training, I don’t know.

As I say I liked him and thought there was something worth looking at - but it isn’t a massive loss in the grand scheme of things. We move on and hope the replacements do better.

Funny how the majority of people are saying that he was a decent player . I’m inclined to agree that I think he was worth another season but he wants regular games and he’s going to get that at Crawley. He’ll poach a load of goals , but in a relagation scrap most likely.

Really surprised by this. He played really well in the cup games, and clearly had potential. Someone said that Hurst called him the best finisher at the club.

I gather he scored plenty of goals in NLN, but then looking at our new forward players they all seem to come with L1 or high L2 experience so maybe Hurst is going for players who have already cut their teeth at this level. Maybe we are seeing a serious quality upgrade.

It does suggest that another striker is on the cards. Umerah perhaps? That would really get the juices flowing!

Decent player, worked hard when he got the chance. In the right team could score a few goals. Don't think we were the right team for him. Wish him well.

I am told we are still in the market for a 23-24 lumpaldinho

Hurst didnt see enough to start him on a regular basis. Didn't fit into our system. Not a target man nor someone with enough pace to run off from a central striker and seemingly frustrated to be an impact sub so seems a good deal to except an undisclosed fee for him and look at better options.

Dont think it would be too unrealistic now to go for a Macaulay Bonne or a Tyler Walker. Both now flattered to decieve at a higher level for more than one season but league two winners and worth a punt.

Also this goalkeeping issue needs a bit more money throwing at it or restart conversations with Crocombe if possible. We need someone in place during pre season

He’ll be fondly remembered, mainly for his two displays against Luton, and that serious back injury he got at Southampton but other than that, it’s pretty beige isn’t it.

Perhaps he was a good squad player and decent bloke, I wish him well and hope he gets a fair crack at Crawley but we can do better and the two clubs are on very different paths.

The outcry is odd but each to their own. Times have changed though, we had s guy who scored a sackful yet offered him woeful terms and off he went for absolutely nothing, here we have a guy who, in truth contributed very little and we’ve taken a fee, albeit one that probably covers some costs, but a fee nonetheless…

I posted (May 20th) that Orsi was top of the 'xA + xG' stats for the whole of League 2 - so the data suggests there's a useful
player there, as many posters have said.

I completely agree he needs to be part of a two-up-top formation, and there's your answer: decent player but doesn't suit our system.
The move is best for both parties, and it would be no surprise to see him doing very well elsewhere.

Data Link:

(You'll need to change the season back to 2022-23 via the button in the top right corner.)

He’s at the stage of his career where he needs to be playing games. If last season is anything to go by, Hurst sees him as a squad player, so it makes sense.

Sure Hursty would’ve been fine with him being part of the squad still, but if the player doesn’t want that it’s not fair to keep him here, especially when he’s so far from home.

I’m told the decision was put into Danilo’s hands, Hurst give him honesty about where he stands in the squad and he wanted to move closer to home. A move that works for all parties, thanks for the memories Danilo.

Yeah, didn’t exactly set the world on fire here did he. A couple of good performances but we need better if we are going to be challenging higher up the division. We seem pretty well stocked for attacking options now. Do we need another striker?

Composed in front of goal, gave us some good memories, decent touch and a good finisher.  Ranks as a 7/10 on the Sh!thousery scale.   Wish him well for the future - but if we're going to have a 4/5th choice forward I'd rather see a youth product like Essel get that chance to show what they can do off the bench and in the cups tbh.

We surely now need to sign at least 1, if not 2 more forwards with Orsi going?

I would imagine with Orsi leaving, I imagine Hurst sees (out of what we have) that Rose, Pyke and possibly Wilson would be ST.

I think we will sign someone, and my head tells me in the mould of Mani, but with my rose tinted specs on, we could be announcing Umerah (or similar).

With the shite referees in this division, you sometimes need a big lump to counter the decision-making which lets big defenders shove smaller ones around and wrestle them to the ground with impunity. The number of times that Lloyd was penalised for giving as good as he got in this regard last season was ridiculous. Some referees seem to think there must be skulduggery involved when a diminutive player gets the better of a big lump and blow their whistle for a foul.

If you watch this goals reel for Danny Rose, you can see him scoring 5 headed goals, two of which he seemed to outjump tall defenders and one of them he put on his back.  Oh, and you just got to love the last goal shown

Rose has good timing and movement which is why he scores a good few headers, despite his relatively diminutive stature. Michael Owen used to score lots of headers as well for the same reasons. We just need to make sure that we get plenty of good crosses into the box...

I suspect as with Orsi ,Mani would demand gauranteed playing time again so it's a none starter.

Bit similar to Kiernan from what I saw of him. Mainly turned up for the big games and didn't put in the grind week in, week out which is likely why neither are at the club anymore. Mostly saw him come off the bench during the season and he was pretty anonymous.
