Onto the A17

Job done. Could have been 5 but for poor finishing. Controlled the game but with us not killing it off, always felt a bit edgy despite Kings Lynn not offering anything. They were dead on their feet and a poor side.

Mani and Abrahams ( despite scoring) showed why they arent starting, missing chances on more than 1 occasion. Amos my MOM and thought again Scannell was lively when he came on and also missed a 1 on 1

Max Wright was poor and just wasnt in the game at all.

Crowd flat, too spread out at the worst away end ive ever been in and i hope to god never have to step foot in again

Thankful for the 3 points and move on, too many missed chances but still 3 points. Onwards and upwards.

Dead Eye Dobbin stood motionless waiting, waiting, waiting for the ball to arrive. Back came the right foot, Down came the right foot, Bang ! Headlines around the world as the ball flew into the very top right hand corner of the goal.( Jim Dobbin scoring in the 89th minute for Town against Newcastle United away 24/10/1992 )

If it helps I was listening on the radio and also had no clue what was going on due to some really poor commentary. JT & Crofty never seem to have a clue what’s going on!

Didn’t sound pretty but it’s 3 points and we’re probably 2-3 wins away from the play offs now with some real momentum, just have to hope we don’t capitulate the way we did the last time McAtee was out.

Knackered. Have got neckache and I'm over 6 foot. Must have seen about 10 minutes of actual football. The only good thing about today is the result.

'I walked in the dressing room. The window was open and I thought that a sea fret had got in. Then I saw smoke billowing from a pipe in the corner of the room...it was my centre-forward. He looked seven stone wet through. He went on to score thirty-odd goals that season.' Lawrie McMenemy on encountering the legend that was Matt Tees.

Internet signal in center parcs isn't the best but I'm pretty sure we hit the post and had 3-4 cleared off the line.. But apart from that it sounded drab.
As people have said above Mani and Abrahams aren't good enough to get a team promoted.

I think PH has done well today, risked resting a few and came away with 3 points... My only concern is Mcatee, any news yet?. Utm

Good management I think.
We were never in much trouble without playing that well.
We had plenty of chances to win the game but didn't take them.
I left 20 minutes into the second half because of having to Crain my neck to watch anything going on, when the best view in the ground is through the window while having a urine says it all.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

If Stockport on Friday represented a great day then this was the polar opposite. Grateful though I am that Kings Lynn provided us with enough tickets for people who wanted to go to charge £21 for what we got was simply extracting the urine.
As far as the game went we did enough to win. Kings Lynn were pretty dire. It must be hard to raise your game in such circumstances but large parts of the game had the feel of a pre-season friendly.
Defensively Town were pretty untroubled. Waterfall (who should be a shoe-in for POTY) and Smith dealt with the little the home side gave them with relative ease ably assisted by both full backs. Clifton had a good game in the middle.
Max Wright (whose inclusion surprised many present) tried hard and I'm told rattled the post first half  ( I couldn't see). He was substituted midway through the second half without perhaps giving the management team any food for thought.
It is to be hoped that Mcatees injury isn't too serious because simply put we lacked anyone with his vision and charisma. The front two of Manny D and Abrahams, whilst the latter grabbed the goal were guilty of some of the most profligate finishing seen this season particularly Manny who could/should have had at least a hat-trick. It got so bad that a large portion of the crowd behind the goal were willing Scannell (who impressed again with his trickery, ability to pick a pass and speed) to go it alone as chance after chance went begging.
Town fans joined in with the minutes applause to commemorate the passing of Lynn's captain but the combination of poor accommodation and the lack of anything to get behind coming from the pitch meant that the atmosphere was poor-so poor that we were able to hear the Kings Lynn massive's 70s retro chant of "You're just a Town full of spast*cs"...astounding in the 3rd decade of the 21st century..

I take my hat off to you HJ for finding a way to turn a victory into a failure and a reason to have a go. If only our midfielders were as creative and our forwards as persistent we’d be nailed on for promotion.

I think we got away with it. Finishing was bordering on the farcical. They never looked like creating but only needs a mistake from a set piece and 2 points dropped. After many of us asking when Harry was going to move into the middle I thought he was again off colour. Just our best XI for the rest of the season please…

3 valuable points that puts pressure on our close rivals.  One rival seem to have removed themselves from contention.

[Boreham Wood demonstrated that a long cup run, with a small squad, can damage results. They have lost twice in the last 4 days to both already relegated sides.  Games in hand are usually not as good as they look on paper either.

At this late stage in the season it doesn't matter how good or bad we play, a win is a win is a win.

I'd happily see scrappy games like that, just as long as we score more than the other team.

Its 3 more points than we had this morning

Believe that after the Everton defeat they went off on a jolly to Dubai? That was what really upset their boat - focus gone - should have left any celebrations to the end of season. Anyway, that has been excellent for us.

Just wrote a big spiel in support of Barralads thread that got merged (that got wiped with an Error message).Equality Act and any other Act / legislation should be brought to bear on the Kings Lynn board - they have made quite a bit of money out of Town fans today - clean it up!

Well that was poor from both teams, it looked as so we was knackered after the exertions of Friday and Kings Lynn were very limited.

Mani looked like he won a raffle ticket to play as his all round ball play was poor, the amount of times he had the ball at his feet and he was easily dispossessed, and his finishing in particular was poor, likewise with Abrahams, apart from the goal he didn't offer much but he still did more than Mani I think, Wright apart from a few glimpses was anonymous and Fox looked like he was still getting up to match speed in which of course he is, the back 4, Waterfall Smith and Amos especially were very good but Cropper did a good job too. Scannell looked up for it when he came on and the chance he missed I think the ball bobbled at the worst possible time!

Hopefully some good news on the injury with Mcatee but Hopefully Holohan plays that role as I think he could do a good job.

Scruffy performance, 3 points, one less game to go.

Pitch was fking awful, players from both sides constantly losing their footing and some horrendous bobbles when players kicking the ball. Throw into the mix 4/5 players who aren't match sharp, the oppositions anti football fall over and scream like a female dog approach , unfamiliar partnerships starting then it was never going to be a classic.

3 points in the bag and a speedy recovery for Mcatee hopefully.

I do hope the club make some official comment complaint about the lack of view for many. Would have had a better view from a tree in the park behind the home end.

We should’ve won that at a canter 6 or 7 one on ones with the keeper. Mani had 4 and just hit the keeper every time. Got away with being wasteful today and fully expect us to be better on Saturday.

Thought the two central midfielders looked a decent pairing and won the ball high up the pitch regularly, they were just let down by wasteful finishing.

Just back. Enjoyed today. Thought we were always on top and did what needed to be done. Had the chances to bury them and should have come away with a better score but all important 3 points earned, especially with Chesterfield going down 2-0 at Halifax.

Seen some on twitter really moaning about Kings Lynn as an away day. Each to their own but I thought it was a lovely place, picturesque walk to the ground for a change, nice weather and a Town win. What's not to love?

Hope McAtee's injury isn't as bad as it looked but fear the worst, the worst being a month out and hopefully back for the play-offs.

Touch of class from Widds at the end there too, not often you see an opposition manager, past player or not, clapping the fans and gesturing us to 'go up'. Good day, onto Torquay. UTM

EDIT: Forgot to say, a 2-game-programme is possibly the most tinpot thing I've ever seen LOL.

When I saw the line up I thought we may have been in for a scrappy game with so many changes and a few with little game time. Though it wasn't pretty players did the job in what could have been a banana skin. On today's showing up front you can see how valuable Taylor is to the side when he plays, at the back we looked really solid I reckon.

I know that BP belongs in the last century but I do think that Kings Lynn should be a bit more open & honest about how poor the view is for the away supporters is, there must have been loads of kids who couldn't see a lot today.

Couple of nice touches at the end though with Tommy Widdrington clapping our support and their photographer going over to Foxy to tell him there was a kids in the crowd asking for his shirt, to which he duly obliged, the snapper didn't have to do that.

Anyway like I say job done, 3 points in the bag all being well McAtee won't be missing for too long.

I honestly just can’t really comment on the game I see as I simply couldn’t see it, felt sorry for the kids and shorter people as I’m a tall guy and even I couldn’t find any half decent view.
Absolutely appalling I hope to never go there again.

Thank god we won’t have to go there again, has to be the worst away end ever,

Hurst dodged a built today with all the changes but 3 points are 3 points so we move on, tough game next sat especially if John Mac is going to be out

Have to say I didn’t think I could visit a ground worse than gateshead but today was the day. Yes the walk through the park was nice but the ground was absolutely diabolical. The poor kid next to me couldn’t see anything so spent the entire game sat on the terrace playing some game on his phone. I even forgave him when he smacked the blowup football straight into my face. That was not value for money and even the PA was worse than ours at BP.

Not a ground I would want to frequent again. Nominee for twit of the week was the Kings Lynn fan dressed in a pink onesie

An excellent 3,111 there today, well done to everybody who went.

Wrexham had just over 10,000, their biggest home crowd of the season.  Stockport had 9,200.  Along with ourselves and Notts County, this demonstrates that collectively these teams are getting larger attendances than probably any other NL season.

From what I saw (which wasn't much!) we looked a little flat. Not sure if this was down to McAtee's injury or whether we thought we could win without much effort, almost felt like pre-season especially with the sun.

Don't think anyone really stood out a lot, perhaps Amos and maybe Scannell but he didn't have much luck against a KL team that set out just to stop us playing really.

Dieseruvwe was poor, and showed little drive for someone who's barely had a sniff of the first team, clearly not planning to be here next season with a performance like that. Thought Abrahams, goal aside, didn't have the best game either and can now see why Taylor is starting in front of them both.

Worst ground I've ever been to. Crazy to think that Kings Lynn made more money from town fans today than we did from Stockport fans on Friday.

I think most, if not all, of the top half in this league could comfortably hold their own in League 2 with their current squads.

Honestly the worst ground i have ever visited, the way all the town fans were cattled into that shitty away end was disgraceful for £21, they could have put the 20 Kings lynn fans further up the side and gave that to town so we could actually see.

The game could have been 5 nil but for dodgy finishing, the pitch was excrement the atmosphere was excrement and it felt like a friendly probably due to the excrement view everyone had to endure.

Hope i never have to return.

How do you work that out? Based on 3000 STHs we had 4,800 paying punters against Stockport.

I don't know how many STHs King's Lynn have but i imagine a few hundred of the 3,100 crowd have a ST at over £500 a pop may I add!

The Premier Seating tickets for todays game (where JT had an obstructed view of both goals) were £26 a pop!

I assume he's talking about the money KL made from us (1800+ fans) vs what we made from Stockport (1450 fans)

Yes I am (and also the fact we charged £1 less, or £2 less than those who got a seat), edited original post to make this clear.

We won. It could’ve been 5. View was atrocious, cost to get in was a rip off, fans scattered about and poor view impacted mood and thr opportunities to create an atmosphere.

Hopefully we never have to return.

The end…

Would just say that Hurst showing his lack of enthusiasm for the performance of those who came in I can understand in a sense of setting standards but I don't agree he should have done it.
Players like Mani & Abrahams hardly get a sniff, there aren't any reserve games so to expect them a third into a game to work as a front two and hit the ground running and to be match fit/sharp is a bit unrealistic.
Same for Wright with his time out and Fox also returning from injury.
Hurst gambled with all the changes today, got away with it, choosing to go with recovering and bit part players was a gamble, he can say players need to be prepared all he likes but every player knows there is no substitute for playing time to achieve that.

I was thinking that it ranked slightly above Belle Vue, Donny before they were relegated out of the league - when they had the cage, as the second-worst away end.

The 4 of us today climbed into the Disabled enclosure (as did a few others) so we could see ok. The steward, about 2 yards away, was rigorously executing his duties guarding the gate into it and the onward route to the seats, and deflecting many creative arguments from Town fans as to why they should be allowed through. He ignored the fence climbing. My daughter observed that was probably because his allocated task was to guard the gate - and he would have to consult his supervisor to expand his duties to stopping fencing climbing.

Going back to Belle Vue, in the pre-cage days the view was ok, that was when the away end was not a terrace but a kind of mound made of slag and clinker. It must have been scary back in 72 mind when I understand most of the 12k crowd were Town.

He was cramping after 55 minutes today and only really showed little flashes of his quality, worked really hard though.

Both of them were blowing out their rses at the end and their ball control - never good on a bobbly pitch, was getting worse - one would think they should be tip -top fit, but they didn't look match sharp to me either of them.

I didn’t go, great result though and let’s hope McAtee makes a full recovery (does he need two arms or could he lose one to get a promotion?).

The thing I find most staggering is that people found a need to go to King’s Lynn for anything longer than around 6 hours. There’s a Nandos and that’s about it - it’d be like going to Immingham for a weekend away. What did you fill your time with?

Be disappointed if Town don't put in an official complaint to the league about the level of facilities and view experienced by the supporters today. I've let Stephen Cleeve know my thoughts on twitter

I live in GY and have ventured past Dudley Street approx 5 times since I moved back in 2015. Much like King’s Lynn there’s no need to go for any time period longer than required! (I moved back from quite near Lynn)

Surely those on the fringe have private friendlies arranged if reserves aren't having fixtures? If not you're telling me players who aren't in the team haven't played an actual match in weeks/months?
Anyway, from what I heard in the commentary we really don't have anyone good enough to slot into Taylor or Mcatee role. So let's hope Taylor was just resting and Mcatee isn't too severe. UTM

I was one of the fortunate ones who managed to get a vantage point that was half-decent having got into the ground quite early.  Whilst walking across the terrace before the game it was quite clear that it was going to be a shocking view for most once it started to fill up.

Scant consolation I'm sure but there was very little on the pitch that was of worthy of seeing.  They didn't really trouble us other than the need for a few late block tackles, can't remember Crocombe having anything of note to do.  Their left winger looked a player but was absolutely spent after his little run across the pitch early on.

Back four was solid.  Clifton and Fox never really got going together as pair, maybe too similar.  The wide lads didn't really get into the game and Scannell was head and shoulders above them when he came on.  Up top McAtee's injury left us with a bit of a mismatched pairing that had more than enough chances late on to make it very comfortable.

They were exhausted from 70 minutes onwards and our finishing was genuinely woeful.  A win is a win and another 3 points closer to a play-off spot, but I couldn't help leave the ground thinking the better teams in this league would have run riot in the second half.  We don't have a nasty and clinical enough streak in us and it's something we need to address asap heading into the play-offs against teams who are just that.

To be fair, their left winger looked like 2 or 3 players   skilful no doubt, Andy Ruiz figure though. For what its worth, apart from hitting their keeper every chance he got, I actually thought Deseriuvwe played alright. Held the ball up well IMO and as for Abrahams, scored the only goal of the game so cant moan really?

I thought we where pretty “nasty & clinical” when we beat the side at the top of the league a couple of days earlier.

Form would suggest we are currently one of the better teams in this league.

I thought  Mani worked hard all game and adapted well to the changes in system and personnel. Due, perhaps to lack of game time, and predictable tiredness, his finishes were not as sharp as his Salford days.
Abrahams was on hand to finish and played his part in linking play and retaining possession. Difficult to judge them on their limited time together on the pitch but we should remember that, even when McAtee is on the pitch, our midfield struggles to retain the ball long enough to apply pressure on defences.
Playing up front for Town can be hard work if midfielders give the ball away or wingers don't win enough corners, free kicks etc.
It was a frenetic, low quality game on a poor pitch in warm weather. Given the changes, and the loss of our best player, we gained an ugly three points. Unless we can establish longer spells of possession on Saturday, we will have more exhausted players.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

That's my point, players can't get match fit or match sharp unless they are involved in matches. Especially strikers/ creative players.
Also the state of the pitch shouldn't be underestimated , I don't think there was a player out there yesterday who didnt get caught out by a bobble or lose their footing.
