Or in the unlikely event that he’s sold in Jan.

Which I referred to in post 71, earlier in the thread.

We’ll get no more sell-ons once he’s left Peterborough

Most sell-ons continue until the chain is broken so if Dembele leaves on a free in the summer which is looking most likely then we won't get a penny more. However, if Peterborough sell him for a fee and insert a sell-on clause themselves, that is usually passed on. So if we have a 25% sell-on and Peterborough get £2m from any negotiated sell-on in the future then we would get £500k of that.

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but I can’t picture that being right in any way. What about 3 or 4 clubs down the line? Why would we be entitled to any part of a deal negotiated by two clubs who would’ve never spoken to anyone at GTFC? Just seems ridiculous - the clause would be to incentivise that first deal, not to act as a percentage to be doled out in perpetuity until the player retires.

Didn't we get/or were hoping to get some extra money from Ryan Bennett in this way?

When he went from Peterborough to Norwich we got our entitled sell-on fee, let's say 25%.  Then when he was linked with transfers away from Norwich, I seem to remember Arsenal at one point, there was hope we would get 25% of Peterborough's 25%.

Also seem to think a few lower league/Conference clubs have had decent windfalls recently from other diluted sell-on fees a couple of transfers down the line.

Regardless, with Peterborough in a relegation scrap I can't see them looking to off-load one of their prized assets.  Nor can I see anyone stumping up big cash for him with six months left on his current deal.  Faint hope that Newcastle's new wealth will see them just throw everything at staying up with a Harry Redknapp style splurge this month....very faint hope.

i think there are numerous different sell on % types.

Percentage of next sale (say 25% on the sale of Ryan from Peterboro to Norwich we would get 25% of the transfer fee)

Sell on Percentage of next sale (this is based on the next selling clubs % so if we had a 25% sell on %, and Peterboro sold him to Norwich who also had their own % we would get a % of Peterboro's % if Norwich had the same 25% sell on then Norwich would get their 25%, and Peterboro and GY would also get an additional %)

Personally not sure JF knew what he was doing when comes to transfer / contract negotiations.

Late goals are always lucky, everyone knows that

I feel an idiot now for clapping Hunt's what I thought was a cracking free kick against Barnet.

I would have thought the most common mechanic for such deals would be a % share of ANY revenue made from future sales of the player.

Having a deal based on an initial transfer fee only leaves you open to all kinds of shíthousery, e.g. club sells player for £1 with an incremental fee of £5m after one appearance.

Obviously in the case of Dembele any such chain is broken when he leaves Peterborough as a free agent. Even if he were to go this month, our cut would now be fairly paltry. Our cash cow was slaughtered in the summer.

A smooth sea never made a skillful mariner.

I don't think he knew too much about running a football club either.
