| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |

Not sounding to critical but have we got no one better than Spokes and Bennett?? Not saying they aren't trying but they both are not very good players.
|
| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |

Simple ball over the top - it was a good finish but too easy. Why don’t we have players who can finish like this?
Billy Clarke away at Leyton in January?

I wish we still had Glennon.
he was quality wasn't he Preston worries me. ok on the ball- but positional sense is appalling. id shift Hendrie over there to try and nullify Clarke. Hewitt right back and Idehen in middle.

Sorry but Preston isn't good enough, no spacial awareness and drawn to the ball to easy rather than watching his man, in fairness we've looked okay coming down the right but we need Edwards to pose a threat down the left, teams too lopsided. Just cannot see where our goals are coming from.

If we’d scored those goals, we would be ecstatic. Good goals, could we have done much more? Probably not. That’s as good as we are without Scannell, Hanson, Pollock and Rose.

Two really good goals. Frustrating but we're showing signs of a bit more cohesion. Like others have said, we need a left side that matches our right, because Preston isn't up to the standard (not for the want of trying), and I'm not a fan of Bennett either. Surprised some are questioning Spokes, he's been far better than Clifton.
Lets all pray Hanson gets fit soon, because he'll be having a field day with some of Morais's crosses.

Much better performance than Saturday and Bradford not that much better than Scunny, just had 2 moments of real quality so fair play really. We still don’t have the cutting edge up front but there are some signs of improvement - Gibson in particular looking more handy. Important now to keep heads up.

2 behind but on a strange way I’m not to disappointed due to them both being top notch goals. Think we need to sort left side out as bennet offers little.
Spokes been decent again for a young centre mid.

Bizarre half really, thought we played quite well. They have taken two half chances clinically.
I thought we should’ve definitely had a pen as well. Jackson has struggled for a a kick up top. Would like to see Edwards on for Bennett

Sometime we have to accept that Clark, Novak and other players are better than our youngsters. How many town players would get into Bradfords team. Not many.
Until we pay proper money to proper players who are not crocks we will continue to struggle. Sorry.

I picked on the left hand side because i don't think Holloway would change it even with everyone fit. We do have a hell of a lot of players missing. Our first choice XI would be safely midtable. McKeown Hendrie Waterfall Pollock Preston Hewitt Rose Williams Scannell Morais Hanson That team, fully fit, would be competitive.

It must knock your confidence. The best you've played for an age as a team, the opposition not looking too much of a threat and they bang in their only two shots at goal.

Yet again huff puff huff puff Tried there hardest, not enough quality in all areas of the pitch.
Preston he'd a proper stinker. I know we have nothing upfront but surely it's time to pay Green off and try to get someone in in January.
The manager has a lot to answer for with his very confusing substitutions and formation in the latter part of the game.
If we can't get a result against these we are fooked because apart from two great goals they were nothing.
Mad as intercourse with IH

If we’re not good enough on a good night against a bang average Bradford that tells you all you need to know. Bennett looked woeful out wide, much better central then got pulled. Why? Spokes looked ok, as did Morais but we need a proven goal scorer. Man of the match? Probably Hewitt.

What the f was Holloway thinking, Spokes out on his feet, Morais offering our only threat and he brings him off for Rose?..Green offers absolutely nothing, NADA nowt. Really worried we are truly relegation fodder, we seem to have zero quality Barr Morais going forward, git to say it, IH need not say that was a good performance, battling yes, but good?..far flipping from it!!

Can’t help but think Holloway should be holding his hands up there.
Substitutions did us there. Worked out great for Bradford. Spokes will never be a footballer, but when he’s run his socks off and you leave him on he’s gonna be even less effective.
We’re naive and at times it just seems like we roll a dice and see what happens.
We can bemoan our luck and so on but how many times are we gonna say we were unlucky but finish the game with nothing...

Never mind, every step nearer the Conference knocks a few quid off the purchase price for potential takeover syndicate(s) (assuming anyone wants to buy a non-league club of course)

Looked like they had a pre-agreed substitution schedule rather than reacting to events on the pitch

When he was subbed on, if Green had walked up to the ref, head butted him and walked straight off, he’d have still offered more to the game than he did tonight.
Release every striker we have, they’re all flipping garbage.

We have played three teams in the bottom 5 in the last fortnight and come away with 1 point out of 9.
Lets' face it. We are the worst team in the country. Again.
Barrow and Stevenage must we wondering when it's their turn to get 3 easy points.

Sorry, Aldi, disagree about Spokes, watch him and you'll see he has good feet, passed the ball really well and until the 80th minute when his legs went, ran that midfield.

That's football. Bennet got better, Morais was class despite some quiet periods. Spokes had a good game but should have gone off. He looked dead on his feet. Town's passing much better as are the crosses but we need a goalscorer who's good with both feet and his head. A lot of criticism but the players worked hard. That's a big difference than earlier in the season.

a really poor bradford side? With Novak, Donaldson and Guthrie to choose from up front? we played well. we desperately need a goalscorer, and id say a left back, but spokes looks a big plus
We didn't play well, we weren't horrific but we created nothing against a very poor team. Quality strikers still require chances to put away. We badly need Scannell back and Bennett shouldn't be played outwide in front of a limited Preston.again.

Sometime we have to accept that Clark, Novak and other players are better than our youngsters. How many town players would get into Bradfords team. Not many.
Until we pay proper money to proper players who are not crocks we will continue to struggle. Sorry.
As I was saying. Do I need to repeat it?

Poor subs. This one definitely on Olly. Our passing continues to be poor. Well played Spokes until the injury.
Tilley way off fitness and What's the point of Starbuck when Bennett is back in the dressing room?
Green? Just retire.

Spokes, Morais, played really well, defence pretty good, we just totally lack a strong player up front to win headers. Green no help from ref but why is he even an option. I assume the new attacker coming in is going to be a quick 5ft10 player again to go with all our other small strikers.

If we don’t bring in 2 lads who know where the back of the net is and start scoring from the off we’re in big trouble.
Missed a few bits of the stream tonight due to work but for what I saw the lads at least tried hard.

Hagrid, Green is not the player he once was, he's got no pace, no touch and shouldn't be on the pitch, to what was a decent player he's a shadow of his former self and offers the team nothing, Gibson won a few headers, pressed the defenders and worked as hard as he could. To be honest, Gibson isn't that great tbh but I cannot stick when your forwards are outwide looking for the ball, they need to be there, in the box, waiting for the ball to come into the melting pot!

A game we didn’t deserve to lose. Two brilliant goals did for us.
Jackson never had any service but looks like our best finisher when he gets chances . I’m not convinced with Gibson at all tbh. Clifton has great engine but very poor passing ability.
Green should be gone in January along with Hanson, don’t think we are in that bad shape really. Need to get a couple of experience players and get the rest back for like scannell.
We may start getting run of the green eventually.
Don’t forget guys it’s not halfway through the season yet and time to make a few signings so talk of relegation is daft at this point.

The only time I ever seem to see your name on here is when I see you crying about Matt Green, he’s awful, as is Gibson. Jackson has popped in 2 goals so deserves a little time but he was poor tonight. If you think Green or Gibson deserve to play in this side then you deserve to watch the shite they’re serving up.

Relegation form whilst playing teams in relegation form is a tad concerning. Needs at least 5 better players in that starting line up to even compete. Left back, left midfield, centre mid with creativity and goals and two strikers.

If you want the truth, I'm pig sick of wasting £20 a week now...I want to be entertained, but right now all I'm doing is getting frustrated with the dog sh!te being served up, yes the boys try hard but we are getting beat by, at best, mediocre teams. No excuses now, either IH sorts this shower out, gets rid of the dead wood and we start playing the football he promised or he packs his bags and leaves. My patience is wearing so thin you can see right through it!

Jackson can score. Fact. I remember Michael Owen doing nothing for 89mins. He then scored. Jackson to start every game. He doesn't get subbed unless they remove him on a stretcher If we're gonna start launching it, stick Pollock up front. I swear he'll do a better job than any other striker at the club, which says it all. Hansons had it. Green should have gone a year ago, he isn't good enough for the national league. Well done to him for what he's managed to get off the club - A semi pro would have done as good a job I'd say stick him in the stand as a ball boy but he's just not quick enough to the ball Ffs how difficult can it be to pick a team and stick to it. Obvious who needs to play and where Can't wait to see what we get in jan
|
| Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong Update: I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly |

I’m really surprised by how accepting some people are of poor quality and mediocrity. That attitude won’t help us retain our EFL status.
Bradford didn’t even have to get out of second gear to beat us on our own patch. These are the games that we need to be winning.
A loss to Southend and now to Bradford is hugely concerning.

I think this acceptance of poor/mediocre players, managers, performances and lack off ambition comes from the top and permeated down to a lot of fans. So the sooner the supreme leader felicitations off the better.
|
| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |

Obviously we have the same keeper as non league but there are several of our last Wembley final team who would walk into this team. Nearly all of them in fact.

Hewitt's proven himself at centre back so having needed a centre back, we can allocate budget elsewhere if necessary, if not, a pacey centre half needed..
Need a left back, an extremely mobile and combative centre mid and two pacey forwards, all better than we've got already..Fonkeu looks like an upgrade, so that's one in the bank..
Jackson out of his depth.. Gibson a division too high
Get them both loaned out at the very least..
Green not good enough, way past his best, and at his best he was League Two standard anyway.. Hanson a crock
None of those four would get a full-time professional contract anywhere next season, so why are they here?
Pay them off if it helps the budget and send Gomis, Taylor and Morton back if we can..
If we can achieve this and sign upgrades, we'll be ok in this league..

I don't think us acceping it or not on here is going to make much difference. We desperately need a quality league 2 striker to lead the line. I think Gibson or Jackson can do a job as a second striker but they are so raw to play them together. Likewise I think Spokes and Rose could be a decent CM combo with the energy and physicality of Spokes complimented by Rose's experience and calmness (with the exception of a dreadful penalty concession every couple of games). Think the last two games has also shown that Pollock and Waterfall are decent League 2 centre backs but not a partnership. Hewitt has dovetailed nicely with both despite playing out of position just for being more comfortable on the ball and more mobile.

Send back Gomis, Morton, Taylor and Bennett. Release Hanson, Green, Gibson, Sissay. Replace with four who will be first team starters. Easy said but hopefully Ollie’s red hot phone might call the right numbers in this window.

But we dont create chances
Hagrid, Morais knocked four great balls across first half and Jackson didn't get across his man once.. Other strikers not on our books would have had the instinct and movement to get to at least two of them..

Im trying to think of how many of our present side would get into that Wembley side. You can make a pretty good case for none.
I know! Possibly Hendrie and Pollock. Beyond that I’m struggling.

Hagrid, Morais knocked four great balls across first half and Jackson didn't get across his man once.. Other strikers not on our books would have had the instinct and movement to get to at least two of them..
Thats true. A fit hanson would be on them. But he’s a write off

Hewitt's proven himself at centre back so having needed a centre back, we can allocate budget elsewhere..
None of those four or Gomis would get a full-time professional contract anywhere next season, so why are they here?
Pay them off if it helps the budget and send Gomis, Taylor and Morton back if we can..
If we can achieve this and sign upgrades, we'll be ok in this league..
A series question. Is Ben Davies still at the club?
|
| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |

Has Hewitt truly proved himself at CB? Re the budget loan out Green they’ll be lots of takers at a lower level. Hanson, if you’re going to pay him off make sure it’s a lot less than what he’s got left to earn and put a proviso in place that he can’t sign for another league 2 club this season..... good luck with that as it’s worth nothing to his agent I’d suggest. Agree about 2 pacy forwards, if you can find two who will sign for us and start banging them in from the off then I reckon you could make a nice side living as an agent. If we found them we’d be lucky. We need a good hold up player up front and a right goal hanger. What I’ve seen in the last couple of games is we can now get the ball into the box we just need someone to get on the end of it. Despite Dippy Day saying money is no object for Ollie this is going to be a battle to stay up as there is no way in reality that we can bring in all the quality we need and get them all going at the same time.

We have played three teams in the bottom 5 in the last fortnight and come away with 1 point out of 9.
Lets' face it. We are the worst team in the country. Again.
Barrow and Stevenage must we wondering when it's their turn to get 3 easy points.
It's ok, I can remember reading our tough run of fixtures was nearly over and we had some easy games coming up......... ohhh ... Fck.

Big task, but getting eight or nine out to get three, four or five in of better quality has to be the answer.. Up to IH to prove himself in the transfer market.. As for Hewitt. If he can play like he has the past two games, then if money is tight, it would be better spent on forwards.. Like the look of Fonkeu and Morais has proved to be an astute signing, so there's a little bit of hope in me that IH can rectify his mistakes..

'Release Gibson'. He has another 2.5 years on his contract. I think he could be decent but there is no way he is ready to lead the line now. As a third or fourth choice striker I think he's alright. Far more chance of coming to an arrangement with Green if he can find a half decent non league deal and we can bang him a couple of months pay to top him up. Green amd Hanson must be a proper drain on the wage bill.

Did more than Jackson did but you seem to just crucify Green no matter what he does. Got no support from anyone around him. Booting it up to him against 2 6 ft 5 centre halves when he clearely aint fit wtf do you want him to do. Idiot
You need to calm down a bit. People have a different opinion to you and you brand them idiots yet the minute they disagree with you it is taken as some kind of personal affront. It's a League 2 football forum and it really doesn't matter. We must all be pretty idiotic or we wouldn't waste our time on here.

Gibson may benefit from playing with a higher standard striking partner.. or at the very least as an impact sub in a team of improved quality..

Fenty wont leave and he won't invest the money needed to bring in quality. So on current form we are heading out of the league.
The good news is that we already have a non league squad, so we wont have to make many signings in the summer to prepare for our new status. That will save us a few quid.
Sorry to be so negative but I have had a gut full of this shower of shite. Year after year after year of amateurish mis-management, dreadful PR gaffs, cretinous decision making, and endless false economies. Year after year of signing dross players no one else wants, crazy disjointed team team selections, a squad of unfit, error prone players, and barmy managers. And now, to add to the list, the board talking to a convicted con man. Can we get any lower? Any more of an embarrassing laughing stock?

Gibson and Green should be starting to do just that early on when Marais has got the legs, Jackson feeds off doesn’t strike simples

Can’t disagree with any of that Ron. I genuinely don’t believe Fenty has any intention to leave the club. The club are looking for investment but definitely not new owners. Who in their right mind would invest in a club like ours whilst keeping Fenty, would you?

Gibson has 2.5 years on his contract though. So pay lots of money to get rid or pay his wage monthly to have him as back up and see if we can improve him? Imagine you get rid of Hanson and Green in the summer or sooner and we sign a Podge and a Bogle to play up front. Gibson and Jackson as third and fourth choice in League 2 would be fine. They're not the problem. The problem is they're having to be the first choice because those who should be in front of them are knackered.

Its January next week so I reckon we will know a lot more in the first few days. If we are serious about staying up we will have replacements lined up and ready to go.
I think Ollie has made mistakes, although a lot has been forced on him but he wont make the same mistakes twice.
He must be very frustrated at the lack of fitness of his senior strikers who will have to be replaced.
To be fair I thought we actually played a lot better tonight which is a glimmer of hope, but there is absolutely zero upfront.
I think any league quality striker would have been on the end of those Morais crosses, or a top striker from non-league but the ones we signed are not ready for league football yet.

Agree. If you look at the game tonight.. Our centre halves bossed their forwards.. Our right back was fine our left back was shaky.. Our midfield two outplayed their midfield three.. We generally outplayed them down either side, mainly our right.. We had nothing up front, absolutely no pace, no strength, no movement, no nous.. If we had one striker on the pitch of any quality we'd have won from 2-0 down because Bradford are shockingly shite. They could afford to double up on Morais and Edwards second half because they knew our forwards carried zero danger down the middle... Still.. didn't deserve to lose, but we're so easily mugged of positive results through lack of firepower..

Not too down beat after that. I don’t think it will take a lot to turn this around and I am optimistic. None of the forwards are good enough to lead the line but one quality addition will fix that. Defence ok, midfield reasonable. Tilly and Starbuck disappointed me but most were ok. We need to shoot more and we need to win more offensive headers. A couple of signings and this will liven up. Happy Xmas to all utm

Don’t forget guys it’s not halfway through the season yet and time to make a few signings so talk of relegation is daft at this point.
i'm glad you, Zmariner and bigdog were watching the same game as me McKeown, Hewitt, Waterfall, Pollock, Hendrie - all fine as defensive unit Morais and Spokes were excellent tonight - Spokes played like he was a regular rather than his third ever pro game Add in Rose and Clifton who should be fine for this level Edwards has always got that unknown factor. Scannell has been good when he's played. Bennett is interesting - I've criticised him as a showpony, but those 15-20 minutes in a more central role showed him in a completely different light. God knows why Holloway took him, and no wonder he was brassed off. He's definitely worth a start in that same position Up front is the problem - their defenders were just too strong and experienced for us. i actually think Gibson has improved in the last couple of games, but no way can he be first choice. Jackson was dominated tonight but i like the look of him so there is the basis there. They have got fight and committment and i though they looked very fit tonight - were still getting first to the ball and winning tackles in the last few minutes undone by 2 great goals and our lack of ability up front couple of experienced forwards and a left back (plus maybe another benson?) and i think we will be ok i would reiterate, imho, it was a pretty good performance (compare and contrast to the southend second half) and we definitely deserved a point finally don't forget that IH recruited Clark, Glennon, Benson & Grandin, with no lead in, last January

Funny that, I think the exact opposite. I have just posted on another thread that the Bradford defenders had an easy ride tonight. I also think Gibson is going backwards, no where near like he played at Orient for example.

didn't see that one so can't comment. i thought initially he was completely out of his depth, but that in the last couple of games it looked like he's learnt a few things, and he actually won half a dozen headers first half against much bigger and more experienced centre halves. having said that can't disagree with the poster who said that any number of our non league strikers would walk into this present team

Is the constant chopping and changing impacting on player development too. They can’t get in to any sort of stride, you can play out of your skin but not get a game for two weeks and so on.
For what it’s worth I think Gibson is toilet but then it’s hard to criticise when literally every striker is the same...
