phew! under the cosh near the end but stuck in there - we don't half bring upon our own problems at times.

Some good performances though - especially Clifton, Embleton and Hendrie

Looks like Jolley wanted to try a different approach to Stevenage.  Fortune favoured the brave tonight.  Great!  We have some hope at last and something to work on.

Great defensive performance and even a defender scored! 14 corners conceded, mostly in the second half, tells its own tale.


Great to see players going forward and making runs into the box. Hendrie's goal came from a Vernon shot that he followed up on. Something we never did at Stevenage.

So we can take from that game that when we're up against it, backs to the wall, we can defend resolutely and get the ball forward and create chances. LOTS of chances.
But backs to the wall or not, the forwards ratio of chances--turned-into-goals is wretched. That's the stat that will define our season, I fear. Question is, can we do anything about improving it.

Hooper missed a couple of absolute sitters but he put in a hell of a shift in the 2nd half to help the team. Embleton and Clifton gave us legs in midfield and I know he has been the target for all manner of abuse but Collins was solid all night.

Great result. Created lots but we really need to be better in front of goal. Rode our luck but defended well. Vernam needs to be a regular starter.
