Today’s #GTFC starting XI v @Coventry_City - McKeown, Davies, Collins (c), Mills, Fox, Dembele, McAllister, Woolford, Clifton, Wilks, McSheffrey. #UTM

Hopefully all the changes will bring a change of fortune.

SO something like this then I would guess at

                 mckeown

davies, mills collins ( captain) fox

Dembele clifton mccalister woolford.

                 mcsheffrey

                  Wilks

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

I remember reading somewhere McSheffrey hasn't lost a game against Coventry when he's been in the opposing starting XI

Good omen, perhaps?

442?

Presumably ...

Fox and Davies at full back
Mills and Clarke CB
Clifton and McAllister in the middle
Dembele and Woolford on wings
McSheffrey and Wilks upfront

A lot riding on Clifton and McAlister - both will be hungry to impress tho.

If you’d have offered me Woolford starting for Clarke and Berrett to lose their places an hour ago I’d have snapped your hand off. Strangely optimistic but wouldn’t be surprised if I’m back to earth in an hour.

How many additional years on his contract does McAllister starting initiate?

Love this team
Woolford? Possibly cos he sees him as holding the ball and using it better than DJ??

Something had to give after last week and it's great to see him being proactive

Only way to play here is passing football - no point lumping it

Already looks better balanced - but bench looks poor... apart from DJ

Hope we don't get thumped now

But 100% feel vast majority of fanswill be happy with this line up

Baptism of fire for a midfield pairing that hasn't played together before. Haven't played much at all in fact. Given the alternatives though, they must surely be an improvement.

Better prospect than having a totally invisible midfield which is what we've had for most of the season

At the very least this will prove if we were all right all along about McCallister needing to play 🤞

I suspect Woolford is in the team to give licence for fox to bomb forward more. I imagine Jolley thinks that gives us more protection than DJ in the same role.

I'd like to think he'll be more motivated to do well today as a result of being totally excluded all season.... just hoping he can stay up with the game, seeing how long he's not featured in the first team, though if he walks around at the same pace as Berrett often does, he'll be ok

If we don’t get the result today, at least we can see we have a manager working hard to extract something from the squad he inherited.

Don't expect that the team will gel instantly after so many changes, but would like to see the bulk of this eleven together for a two or three games at the very least before getting worked up about the first ninety minutes they've played together as a unit today..

More hopeful with this line up than last week..

Tend to agree with this, Woolford clearly a decent footballer but lacks pace so him & Dixon a big no no as a combination and I thought these two were ok last week until Lincoln scored.

Think with the lad away on international duty getting closer to what majority feel is probably our best eleven and hopefully more options next week with return of Suriman and possibly Summerfield and Jackson.

Need to finalise at least 9 starters for the run in so we can hopefully build up that understanding and achieve those much needed 2 or 3 victories.

Woolford center mid???

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Burnsy just said Town have conceded more goals than any other team from set pieces this season

Wonder why Slade’s PowerPoint tactics didn’t address this?

Hopefully Jolley will have focused on this and we can keep it tight when defending them

Is the pitch as bad as was reported earlier this week because of the rugby ?

It all depends on how we react today to going behind

A more positive mind-set and who knows, we might just get back in this as it's not like we've been outplayed today

Aye. No one expected anything from this game. But if we're playing better that's got to be good for the next few games.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,

We don't deserve to be behind. We need to do something about their goal scorer no.7 on right wing. Mills is having another stand out performance and Demebele while things aren't quite coming off for him is having a better performance.

No he never touched him. He did that thing footballers are doing when they have their back to goal. As soon as they know someones behind them they're throwing themselves to the ground. Its what their player did here as well

It wasn't a foul. Just happened infront of a bent / incompetent linesman. The useless male masturbator earlier somehow missed a ball going out when their lad controlled it about a yard past the line. Conference-esque officiating.

I suspect Woolford is in the team to give licence for fox to bomb forward more. I imagine Jolley thinks that gives us more protection than DJ in the same role.

Nope, he is playing centre midfield.

Free kick or not we still had to defend the free kick and once again our inability to defend a set piece and Macca's inability to be decisive and commanding with balls in the box has cost us.

Ah well, back to hoping Barnet and Chesterfield lose as well. It's all we have. Meanwhile, Cheltenham score their fifth at Crawley.

Here we go again, another defeat, no change then.

OK so its only four games so far but if we don't win another game all season are we going to excuse Jolley because of Slade?

If that's the case surely Wilko could have done just the same job. Should have got an experienced man in, wrong time to take a chance on a 'brave new world appointment' IMO

Instead of passing the ball to any of the midfielders who went a head of him he dribbled the ball into trouble and lost it

Ye that sounds like him 😠

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Unfortunately my prediction with 10 games to go of just 3 points is looking as if it's coming true.
Is this 18 without a win????

We might get a point or two along the way to keep us in it until the last game but if we go down on goal difference it will be a travesty

We need to sack this zonal marking shite off. Players look terrified defending every set piece.

Scoreline flatters them somewhat, but we’ve got to be better in both boxes.

Vernon’s done alright since he’s come on. Wilks impressed me, hope he’s not picked up an injury. Mcsheffrey done nowt.

Exactly. Look, our average goals per game is 0 or 1, and we are leaking goals like a sieve. It isn't rocket science. We have to rely on others, but I find it hard to believe that at the end of the season there will be 2 teams worse than us.

FGR 2-0 up. I just know they are going to be the side that relegates us, just to rub a bit more salt in this massive wound.

Tar and feathers is more apt.

Tar tends to make the recipients stick where they are, I want Fenty and the board to be chased as far away from GTFC as possible..

At least we've got the video and written evidence to show how arrogant and inept they are.. No wriggling out of this disaster..

I’ll excuse him Swin

Jolley cannot be blamed for not serving up a tasty treat when Slade (an experience manager?) left the cupboard totally empty

Make excuses if you like but my point is that he was brought in primarily to make something out of Slade's mess and save us from relegation not to get us out of the National League next season. If he can't or doesn't then he has done nothing Wilkinson couldn't have done

Come on Luton and come on County now. Nothing more to say is there. Hopefully they continue to lose and don't pick up any points and we don't lose to either side when we play them.

I'm not making excuses at all. I said I would excuse Jolley = there's a difference

We (the club) might well have saved money by not appointing a manager and by keeping Wilkinson in care-taker charge but at least Jolley isn't speaking to Slade each day to seek out his pearls of wisdom

Well that puts paid to the theory of changing the side around. Whatever players we choose, in whatever position doesn't matter. They are all sh1te and just coasting until the end of the season, so they can fook off away from here. I hope Fenty is driving the getaway bus.

Always said Fenty will kill our club.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

I am relying on Barnet and Chesterfield  being worse than us to keep us in this division.

No point following any of the results of those above us now. We should play for a draw every game and hope for the best.

Even if he had given you the job it would have been no different.
Slade left the worst squad in Town history and Fenty has handed them to Jolly.

Let’s be honest - never expected anything today.

Relegation/survival won’t be decided this weekend. If Chesterfield and Barnet both lose that’s one less game to be caught, not ideal but we have to take what we can.

Think we have to forget that second half and try on build on what was, in my option, a decent display in the first half. Again not trying to make it sound better than it is, but to survive it’s what we have to do.

Stevenage, Barnet, Chesterfield, forest Green - this is where our season will be decided. 3 of them at home.

I think we’ve had it. Chesterfield have 3 games in hand on us and we can’t even buy a goal at the minute. Can see them nicking a win or two more than us at this rate.

"Falls to Arnold... Arnold! That's it! Thats it! He's sealed it! Grimsby Town are back in the football league!!! Just a minute to go and Nathan Arnold makes it 3-1! Look at the scenes behind the goal! Look at the relief! The agony is finally over!!!"

Results gone against us too so looking more and more likely 2 from 3 and with Chesterfield having 3 games in hand, a win at BP for them and we'll be down.
On a positive note I got my pom right! 😁

There is no way Chesterfield are worse than us right now. We’re doomed. You don’t (and shouldn’t) stay up after a run like this.

On to the Stevenage game, I will pray to the gods ( very hypocritical for an atheist) but it may well end us. It’s now pretty much a 3 horse race, and ours may very well be lame....

Well - to put an upbeat spin on this - it was always a tall order to play a couple of experienced but not match fit players in Mc Sheffrey and Mc Alaster (plus even Woolford), and I think the first half reflected a better performance with these better players in the side ( welcomed these inclusions).
Second half - no fuel in some of the tanks.

For the Barnet, Chesterfield and FGR games these experienced players can, if they remain fit, last longer in a game - the more they play.

Biggest concern is the unlikely event that Town will ever score a goal.

We've scored two in the last three games under Jolley

One was a penalty I accept but before that spot kick we hit the woodwork twice in a matter of seconds then today our own player blocked a goal bound header.

Fine margins I know but IF we can ever get in the lead again, who's to say we couldn't sneak a win

Come May 5th (or maybe before) there will be tears. But will they be tears of joy and relief, or as now looks likely, tears of anger and frustration, at the demise of the club at the hands of the bald one and the board?

First of all - from your posts - I think we pretty much sing from the same hymn sheet
Secondly - Berrett scored the other goal and he's been dropped - so am struggling to see where the next goal is coming from.

Solution - McSheffrey - keep him fit play him forward - he is a finisher.

Good to know I'm actually not a fish out of water then TTG

I'm just trying to stay positive and trying to believe we can score a goal and if it it's the first one in a game, have some trust ( or blind faith) that we might just be able to get an elusive wini

When all is said and done I can't deny that our position isn't precarious but I am just not ready to throw the towel in yet

Got to try and stay positive until there is no hope left...

Change the manager - nothing. Change the team - nothing. Change the formation - nothing. The squad is turd, the club is rotten and we are gone.

I know mate - believe u me.

Their goal tally doesn't lie - that I admit

I still think that the score-line has flattered Coventry but you clearly disagree

It's all about opinions and ours differ

We were lucky not to concede a few more due to poor finishing, Davies had an absolute nightmare that second half.

I think it's our home games that will determine whether we go stay up or go down into oblivion again.

Stevenage, Chesterfield, Barnet, Notts County.

The mental strength (or lack of) in the team doesn't lend itself well to playing away from home and they're not easy games at Wycombe or Swindon. As for the FGR game away I'm not even contemplating it going that far still open.

Barnet have chesterfield to play, if either wins then the gaps closes there and then anyway. We’re finished

All the more reason why we need to beat them both at BP.

To be honest, even though I witnessed a thrashing today. I came away feeling buoyed by a good first half display. I’m also feeling positive about Jolley, the guy in my opinion talks sense. But when all is said and done, I genuinely can’t see us winning another game this season. Jolley can’t work miracles and he has just not had the time needed to instil his beliefs, work ethic etc into the team. Slade should have been shown the door well before he was. We only have one person to blame for that decision.

Slade should have never been allowed back in the door. Bignot had to go but when he was sacked we where safe Dave Moore could have took the team until the end of the season and we could have got the right man in.

On the working miracles point- I ve been torn for the last week on whether bringing in free agents is desperation or probably sensible. I think now on the basis he can't work miracles point it might actually be quite sensible to get a centre back and a centre midfielder as no game time v shot confidence is a no brainer.

But Fenty wanted Slade. He said it himself he was "Cocka hoop" that his mate agreed to join us. To be honest a few on here also saw it as a positive appointment at the time. I reckon had Jolley got here earlier then we wouldn’t be in this predicament. But that’s all ifs buts and maybe's. The stark reality is relegation is looking a real possibility!

This is a tough call and a gamble. Jolley has bought some players in and in all honesty has it yet paid dividends? Time to stick by the players we have I think. We just need to keep one clean sheet and a goal. Hopefully it will be the catalyst to get us out of this mess!

Yes I think the appointment of Slade is just another example of JF making all the decisions and Marley, Day and the race horse trainer just going along with things.

Unfortunately I'm at the stage where my glass is half empty

When the second went in I had that feeling. Then the third and fourth......Glad I decided to go off and do something useful with my time after the first half.

I saw the away game at Cambridge, and the home game against Port Vale, and have to say that today's first half, in fact the first 60 minutes was by far the best we have played in that period. So though Jolley has only been in charge three weeks there is definite improvement.

MacAllister, Wilks  and MacSheffrey are certainly players that can make a difference, especially against the likes of Stevenage, Chesterfield and Barnet.

Our fate rests on those three home games. Stevenage are no great shakes and now realistically have nothing to play for. I think we are capable of beating them next week and that may transform our prospects.

But on yesterday's performance I think we need to drop Davies, move Mills to FB and bring in Sulliman at CB. I think that with those changes we will have a chance of picking up points.
