Today’s #GTFC starting XI v @Coventry_City - McKeown, Davies, Collins (c), Mills, Fox, Dembele, McAllister, Woolford, Clifton, Wilks, McSheffrey. #UTM

Hopefully all the changes will bring a change of fortune.

SO something like this then I would guess at

                 mckeown

davies, mills collins ( captain) fox

Dembele clifton mccalister woolford.

                 mcsheffrey

                  Wilks

I remember reading somewhere McSheffrey hasn't lost a game against Coventry when he's been in the opposing starting XI

Good omen, perhaps?

442?

Presumably ...

Fox and Davies at full back
Mills and Clarke CB
Clifton and McAllister in the middle
Dembele and Woolford on wings
McSheffrey and Wilks upfront

A lot riding on Clifton and McAlister - both will be hungry to impress tho.

If you’d have offered me Woolford starting for Clarke and Berrett to lose their places an hour ago I’d have snapped your hand off. Strangely optimistic but wouldn’t be surprised if I’m back to earth in an hour.

How many additional years on his contract does McAllister starting initiate?  ;)

Love this team
Woolford? Possibly cos he sees him as holding the ball and using it better than DJ??

Something had to give after last week and it's great to see him being proactive

Only way to play here is passing football - no point lumping it

Already looks better balanced - but bench looks poor... apart from DJ

Hope we don't get thumped now

But 100% feel vast majority of fanswill be happy with this line up

Baptism of fire for a midfield pairing that hasn't played together before. Haven't played much at all in fact. Given the alternatives though, they must surely be an improvement.

Better prospect than having a totally invisible midfield which is what we've had for most of the season   ;)

I'd like to think he'll be more motivated to do well today as a result of being totally excluded all season.... just hoping he can stay up with the game, seeing how long he's not featured in the first team, though if he walks around at the same pace as Berrett often does, he'll be ok  ;)
Posted by: LondonMariner43, March 24, 2018, 2:33pm; Reply: 25
If we don’t get the result today, at least we can see we have a manager working hard to extract something from the squad he inherited.

Don't expect that the team will gel instantly after so many changes, but would like to see the bulk of this eleven together for a two or three games at the very least before getting worked up about the first ninety minutes they've played together as a unit today..

More hopeful with this line up than last week..

Tend to agree with this, Woolford clearly a decent footballer but lacks pace so him & Dixon a big no no as a combination and I thought these two were ok last week until Lincoln scored.

Think with the lad away on international duty getting closer to what majority feel is probably our best eleven and hopefully more options next week with return of Suriman and possibly Summerfield and Jackson.

Need to finalise at least 9 starters for the run in so we can hopefully build up that understanding and achieve those much needed 2 or 3 victories.

We need to sack this zonal marking shite off. Players look terrified defending every set piece.

Scoreline flatters them somewhat, but we’ve got to be better in both boxes.

Vernon’s done alright since he’s come on. Wilks impressed me, hope he’s not picked up an injury. Mcsheffrey done nowt.

Let’s be honest - never expected anything today.

Relegation/survival won’t be decided this weekend. If Chesterfield and Barnet both lose that’s one less game to be caught, not ideal but we have to take what we can.

Think we have to forget that second half and try on build on what was, in my option, a decent display in the first half. Again not trying to make it sound better than it is, but to survive it’s what we have to do.

Stevenage, Barnet, Chesterfield, forest Green - this is where our season will be decided. 3 of them at home.
Posted by: jimgtfc, March 24, 2018, 4:57pm; Reply: 171
I think we’ve had it. Chesterfield have 3 games in hand on us and we can’t even buy a goal at the minute. Can see them nicking a win or two more than us at this rate.

There is no way Chesterfield are worse than us right now. We’re doomed. You don’t (and shouldn’t) stay up after a run like this.

On to the Stevenage game, I will pray to the gods ( very hypocritical for an atheist) but it may well end us. It’s now pretty much a 3 horse race, and ours may very well be lame....

Well - to put an upbeat spin on this - it was always a tall order to play a couple of experienced but not match fit players in Mc Sheffrey and Mc Alaster (plus even Woolford), and I think the first half reflected a better performance with these better players in the side ( welcomed these inclusions).
Second half - no fuel in some of the tanks.

For the Barnet, Chesterfield and FGR games these experienced players can, if they remain fit, last longer in a game - the more they play.

Biggest concern is the unlikely event that Town will ever score a goal.

We've scored two in the last three games under Jolley

One was a penalty I accept but before that spot kick we hit the woodwork twice in a matter of seconds then today our own player blocked a goal bound header.

Fine margins I know but IF we can ever get in the lead again, who's to say we couldn't sneak a win

First of all - from your posts - I think we pretty much sing from the same hymn sheet  :)
Secondly - Berrett scored the other goal and he's been dropped - so am struggling to see where the next goal is coming from.

Solution - McSheffrey - keep him fit play him forward - he is a finisher.

I think it's our home games that will determine whether we go stay up or go down into oblivion again.

Stevenage, Chesterfield, Barnet, Notts County.

The mental strength (or lack of) in the team doesn't lend itself well to playing away from home and they're not easy games at Wycombe or Swindon. As for the FGR game away I'm not even contemplating it going that far still open.

To be honest, even though I witnessed a thrashing today. I came away feeling buoyed by a good first half display. I’m also feeling positive about Jolley, the guy in my opinion talks sense. But when all is said and done, I genuinely can’t see us winning another game this season. Jolley can’t work miracles and he has just not had the time needed to instil his beliefs, work ethic etc into the team. Slade should have been shown the door well before he was. We only have one person to blame for that decision.

Slade should have never been allowed back in the door. Bignot had to go but when he was sacked we where safe Dave Moore could have took the team until the end of the season and we could have got the right man in.

On the working miracles point- I ve been torn for the last week on whether bringing in free agents is desperation or probably sensible. I think now on the basis he can't work miracles point it might actually be quite sensible to get a centre back and a centre midfielder as no game time v shot confidence is a no brainer.

But Fenty wanted Slade. He said it himself he was "Cocka hoop" that his mate agreed to join us. To be honest a few on here also saw it as a positive appointment at the time. I reckon had Jolley got here earlier then we wouldn’t be in this predicament. But that’s all ifs buts and maybe's. The stark reality is relegation is looking a real possibility!

This is a tough call and a gamble. Jolley has bought some players in and in all honesty has it yet paid dividends? Time to stick by the players we have I think. We just need to keep one clean sheet and a goal. Hopefully it will be the catalyst to get us out of this mess!

I saw the away game at Cambridge, and the home game against Port Vale, and have to say that today's first half, in fact the first 60 minutes was by far the best we have played in that period. So though Jolley has only been in charge three weeks there is definite improvement.

MacAllister, Wilks  and MacSheffrey are certainly players that can make a difference, especially against the likes of Stevenage, Chesterfield and Barnet.

Our fate rests on those three home games. Stevenage are no great shakes and now realistically have nothing to play for. I think we are capable of beating them next week and that may transform our prospects.

But on yesterday's performance I think we need to drop Davies, move Mills to FB and bring in Sulliman at CB. I think that with those changes we will have a chance of picking up points.
