Why not Dave Gilbert

Could be that Wilko, as the incumbent, is the 'percentage'  option. He should know the players and he does have Dave Moore to help.
Town will be a more attractive option if league status can be maintained.  Its a big IF but surely they can be made harder to beat which is the starting point.

I am not sure if you are right or not, but right from the start I have argued who would want to put their career on the line at this stage of the season, when he is unable to sign any players, we are in freefall and we have no investment?

If they really are unable to attract anyone decent then the correct thing to do is wait, but the only benefit we will have in the summer is that we will be definately a league club (hopefully)

I also know nothing about any imminent statement but I think LCL has hit the nail on the head regarding being in freefall, can't sign players etc.

If I was one of the potential targets and I was interested in the job, I would be inclined to say, "I would like the job but I am not prepared to put my reputation on the line which is what I would be doing if I joined now. If however, you are in LG2 next season and I have a full pre-season, starting with a level playing field, then I'm up for the challenge".

So I wouldn't be surprised to see Wilko continuing to the end of the season.

This does not sound right to me.

Wilkinson is part of the problem, not the solution. He is hardly inspiring is he?  The Board know this as well.

A manager who is at a lower league club or unemployed would probably accept this job.  No guarantees in the future that they will be offered another job as a manager.

Talking of a potential manager not accepting risk, no budget etc.  Paul Hurst went to Shrewsbury when they were bottom and likely candidates for relegation.  He kept them up and look where they are now?  No risk no gain.

Shankly and McMenemy etc accepted the risks of managing GTFC and turned potential into success.  Even Scunny have done well.  A good manager could have success at Grimsby.

Do we really give a excrement Pete? There's sod all we can do to influence it and 80% won't agree with it when it happens anyway

At our age we don't expect anything from Grimsby Town FC anymore do we?

Nice to see you last Saturday despite the match!

Good to see you mate I hope we are still in the league when we meet at our next game.

It will not please a lot on here but I can see Fenty promoting from within at the end of the season IF we do not get our 3rd or 4th choice,

Ben Davies and Danny Collins are coming to the end of their playing days so who knows ?

I don't

One half if the problem went in slade but we still have another half in wilko , I like him but we need fresh input and ideas.

If wilko stays then that's a bad decision imo. A new manager and assistant is required.

That may be true but it does not change the fact that the club has not been able to fill the vacancy this week.

The Hurst point is wrong. He went there before the January window so he was able bring in players mid-season plus he had a bigger budget than here.

We cannot just keep looking at this from the fans’ POV. Making the appointment just now has a lot more to do with the feelings and thoughts of potential candidates than it has to do with the needs of fans or indeed the club. Face it. We are not an attractive option for several reasons. Like it or not, one of those is personal vitriol from a vociferous minority towards employees of the club when they are not doing what the fans think they should. We cannot hide from or excuse it.

Criticism is one thing but personal abuse is another and it was happening from the day Slade was appointed. It would not have mattered what he did. And don’t say other clubs are the same. Even if that was so, it is Grimsby Town FC we are talking about. We should be better than that.  People in football circles notice these things and think “What if my appointment isn’t popular? Will that happen to me? Is it worth having my family in the middle of something like that?”

There are 12 games to go. Anyone willing to give up a safe job or even the hope of a safe job in the summer to pin their future livelihood on keeping us up? Not very likely is it? Don’t know about anyone else but I wouldn’t.

Wilkie has nothing to lose though. He has a job and he has a chance of a better one without moving. I have no idea what sort of manager Wilkie would be but I do know managers are not made overnight or by one game. He is accused of being Slade’s man but the truth is more likely he was Fenty’s man as the backstop to Slade’s appointment going wrong. One thing is for sure, Slade was in charge, Wilkie might have agreed or disagreed but he carried no weight. He does now though.

In these situations you do not look for the best option. You do not look for the best appointment. You look for the least worst. You look for the one you can live with to get you over this hump in the road and until you can sit back and take stock properly. Money comes into it but if the board goes for Wilkie I don’t believe that will be the reason at this time.
