We've only got 3 specialist strikers on the books (not including youngsters). At the end of last season we had 5 strikers on the books so it seems pretty obvious to me that we'll need at least one more striker. At the moment, one injury or suspension and we're down to the bare bones. Two injuries/suspensions and we're limited in the style in which we can play.

Never read the accounts for grimsby town but the notion that these players are on £500-600 is way off the mark surely?
A lot of players are from london way and could be easily on double that as a plumber. Surely they're on 1.5k+ at the very min??
The cars, houses, wags, haircuts they have suggest they're on 2k+

As for reeves, he's missed the boat....
He had his chance. At 29, he has another year to get a league move.  He's gonna regret not moving when he did have the chance.
Instead he can look back at all those matches he played in front of one man and his dog and all those houses he's plastered. All be it he's scored a shed load of goals which have no doubt made him a legend in altrincham.
Altrincham must be paying him a tidy sum
Is that a contradiction?!

Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong
Update:  I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly

Of course, so should we just recruit when we're down to the bare bones ?

Risk is you bring someone in paying a wage and they may end up twiddling their thumbs not getting a game anyway.
Easy to spend money but on a limited budget, Hurst may be thinking ahead thinking it's better spent later.
Can remember him discussing some of these pros and cons in a post match interview this season...

I can see both sides tbh - obviously it may help some players (i.e. those who will be made use of) to gel with the squad asap.

More players available to fill a position = more competition for places.

It is quite commonplace for players to improve when they've got another player breathing down their neck trying to win a place in the first team.

Not to mention that extra attacking options on the bench mean that the manager has further opportunities to try and change the style of play if things are going well.

No doubt in my mind that we need at least one more attacker. Wonder if we'll go for a higher-division youngster on loan? If so, I'd hope for somebody with a bit of pace or versatility with the ability to play out wide if necessary.

Completely agree, I'll argue the the case for improved competition for places all day long.

But again, just so long as the ones "breathing down their neck" get chances (which isn't always easy to do)
Otherwise perhaps players can get hacked off thinking "What do I need to do to get in ?" and slacken off themselves.
[Only guessing here but it makes obvious sense you don't want a bunch of disillusioned & unmotivated backup players...]

Put it this way, rightly (and there may be very good reasons like Sat) or wrongly if Hannah can't get in (and we all know he's keen as hell !), don't quite see the point YET unless they're good enough to earn that place in training or (just need to) go straight in.

Obviously always willing to be convinced otherwise though...

Wouldn't be suprised !

Can see your logic.
Sounds a bit like Arnold mark 2 !

Like you I dont read the full accounts, but I was under the impression that the top earners at the club were on around 1k a week. Seem to remember one of the stumbling blocks with Pond (possibly remembering wrongly) was that his wages were up around 1.5/2k a week.

A few seasons ago Southport got promoted into the Conference and went full time. Some of their best players who got them promoted weren't in a position to give up their day jobs so left and played for other clubs in the area. Southport got relegated and reverted to part-time.

I guess it's difficult for a part-time player to make that decision of stepping up to go full time. Even if his club promise to double his wages, say from £300 to £600 he might be better off earning £300 plus whatever he makes from his day job.

I don't blame Reeves for staying at Alty (if his day job pays well).

Damien reeves does score goals, fact. But our front three look good, Scottie playing out of his skin and let's not forget Arnold can play as a striker, not needed yet in my opinion. Keep a space for a loanee if needed at a later date. We have a happy squad, they will only stay happy if we are winning and they are all getting some game time. Pretty soon we will be an attractive proposition again and hopefully attract good quality players.
