I've noticed that some of you do an annual Bike to the Bank for various charities.

Well, I am gunna do my own Bike to the Bank for Lincoln City v Darlington on Monday 9th April to raise money to save my beleguared club. I'm not asking for any donations or anything or the kind.

I just would appreciate some help with the directions to Lincoln from Grimsby. ie:
- The best route?
- The timing of the journey?
- Timing to set off etc?
- Is the back-roads alright to bike along, is their anything I need to be wary off?
- Is there anyone in Grimsby, who could help with this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Andy.

Bit harsh, he only asked for the best route!

Without looking it up, off the top of my head you're probably best going A1 to Newark then A46 into Lincoln if you were going by car, so you need to be looking for minor roads that run alongside the A1.

Good luck

Genuine question though, can you fulfill fixtures up until April?

It took a lot of planning but was a fantastic day and the support we received from local businesses was fantastic.

Trouble is you may struggle to get that support unless you do it from Darlington to Lincoln, which is a long journey indeed!

Good look, I loved the bike ride to Sincil Bank

I think that's what we did that time. Wasn't too bad to be honest, but I needed to train for a month beforehand to do it in 3.5 hours.

I did it in 4 hours, after getting sent the wrong direction to the pub by some Locals, you finished just before me and we were top 10 of those who finished, which for me was fantastic.

I trained solid for 3 hours x 3 days a week for 3 weeks just to get my legs in some manner for a bike ride of 40+ miles

Can I suggest that the bank he cycles to be the Royal Bank of Scotland, it seems to have been run in a similar manner to good old Darlo.

4th pint of water....you was hanging out your bottom

It was a great event and so many people proved that cycling club wrong!

Hey Big Chris a similar event by the Trust could be a good idea. Also would raise the profile of the trust and good PR by helping a charity too!

Screw the charities. The Trust should focus on nothing but GTFC in my opinion and leave saving the world to Bob Geldof and Bono.

Sounds like you'll be doing the A46. Probably not the most pleasant way to do it.

The route mentioned by the others will avoid the traffic more and is more picturesque.

Did it when I was about 16 in 2 hours and had to cycle back, but I was about 4 stone lighter in those days. Take me about 4 days now

Well, sooner you get through to Grimsby, we can meet for a few beers and speak more then pal.

But in answer to your question, I am sending sponsor forms up to Darlington for friends, family, supporters of DFC, the players all to sign I ain't going to ask for any donations down here though mate.

It is very good of you to help your club, though I feel it would be morer beneficial to have 2000-5000 of you fundraising in Darlinton as you would make a lot more money for your cause. I am not pissing on your bonfire.....seriously organise an event like a fun run or what ever in and around Darlington.

Andy the way your looking at going is quite dangerous, The A46 is a very dangerous road, Going through Hatcliff, Ravendale, Binbrook,Tealby,Market Rasen then onto Lincoln is a much safer route and also very scenic, Although there is a few killer hills along the way   If i remember correctly there is a shop and fish shop in Binbrook were you can stock up - if not there is everything you will need in Market Rasen - Good Luck

I would stick to main roads cos you are more visible. Windy roads + chav racers = instant death. There's a lot of rabbits out there too.

The bike to the bank ride rode out towards Louth, then into Ludborough and up thru an unfamiliar part of the wolds. This road (on which my chain slipped n I went over the handlebars), came out on the Louth to Lincoln road. We cycled this right thru Wragby n on into Lincoln. Once on the Wragby road it became very busy possibly as bad as the A46. I think up Riby Drag, thru Caistor n there is a back road that winds it's way towards Lincoln, which would mean you miss out most of the heavy traffic n manic drivers with no spacial awareness. From the willows to Caistor via Riby usually takes bout 40 mins, steady slope all the way, rather than the intermittent climbs on the A46!

Why not do it on a treadmill / exercise bike safe in doors?

First walk I did was from Darlington to Lincoln, my friend fainted near Gainsborough due to exhaustion.
Second 1 from Grimsby to Macclesfield, I suffered concussion.

1st bike ride. I will complete

I would do this route, i take my bike in the car when we go Nottingham, and the wife drops me of at Langworth, 6 miles outside of Lincoln and i cycle home.

How long will it take to bike from here to Lincoln, so I can have a rough idea on when to set off.

Cheers,
Andy.

Depending on cycle used. It's around 45-50 miles into Simple Bank. So at an average of 12 mph schedule four hours, n maybe a bit more for stops. Then again it depends on how fit you are, and taking into account Wrabs damaged leg! Don't forget, you will need to carry carbs n replacement fluids for the journey.

My involvement is down to the consultants say so, I woulnd't do it if he thought it would set my next operation back but i have been cycling short distances in practice and have been feeling but I'm not afraid of pain so until I'm told its a no go I'm up for it but at the same time don't want to hold Andy back

No offence intended Marco young buddy, I know how determined you are! I was referring to the fact that your bad leg will affect your cycling dynamic thru the pedals n force generated with each downstroke. I am in no doubt you will complete the challenge!

Right lads, got a question.

I am looking to get former Darlington captain & current Grimsby centre-back Ian Miller involved. I was just wondering, where is the best place to find him/contact him to speak to him?

Serious answers please.
Thanks.

I was one of the main organisers. It took one hell of a lot of planning mainly due to the numbers we had which was 57 if I remember rightly.

The police was out main problem with the numbers we had on the road plus we needed, changing facilities, a van to take the bikes back etc.

It was a brill day and remember finishing with the first group - BP Vic was there for certain. I have fond memories of John Fenty's face we handed the bike he was to ride to sincil bank - I wouldn't have rode it.

High vis jacket, puncture repairs kit, camelback full of fluids, carbs, mobile phone is a must.
If there are a few of you doing it I would advise you let the police know your intentions, they may even check up on you to make sure you're alright.
Have a mate in a car handy in case your bike ends up FUBAR.

Ticker got the route down to a T and I remember his fall - it was nasty! Not as bad as the one at Sincil Bank though...

It's not an easy ride - there were a few that just took it that they could do it and that wasn't the case. 50 miles in the flat county (that isn't so flat) does take it out of you. more than doable though!

Time of year will dictate set off time. Look at the sun rise data. Not only does this affect light levels but also temperature!

Good luck.

Binbrook doesn't have a chippy

Sorry to bring this back up, but does any of you know what time Town starting their training at Cheapside? I went down about a hour ago, but nobody was there. Am still hoping to get in touch with Dusty (Ian Miller).

9am i think but don't quote me, your best bet is go for 11am they normally finish training at 12-30.

Had a photo-session done with Ian Miller at Blundell Park today, will be in the Grimsby Telegraph sometime this week I believe.

Also had a decent chat with Mr Fenty who has asked me to email him and he will donate Nice chap!
