More background on the Town game at home to West Ham on 11 April 1981.  We lost 5-1 in a promotion battle for the equivalent of the Premiership.  David Cross got 4 goals, which finished off our challenge.

For those long in the tooth, the WHU team were household names, It is frightening to see the internationals, talented players and hard men throughout in this team.  We were competing well against teams in this Division. Demonstrates hard far we have fallen.  I doubt that I will know any of the Tamworth players in 30 years time.

There were West Ham fans around the stands.  Maybe in small pockets and not all wearing colours because they wanted to see the game.  West Ham were a very well supported club and they had an exceptional team.  The crowd was an excellent 17,924.
