Why was it a red, since they got the penalty, shouldn't it of only been a yellow for denying a goal scoring opportunity?

Wasn't at the game and just caught the end on a laggy connection overseas so probably missed what happened.

If it's intentional attempt at preventing a goal like batting it off the line or dragging back a player about to score then you still get a straight red. Double jeopardy only applies to misjudged tackles where there's a legitimate attempt to play the ball. Either way he'd have been off since he was already on a yellow.

He was booked in the first half

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Wasn't it a straight red? Didn't see the yellow raised as well, although I wasn't particularly looking for it. I don't really blame him for that incident as the deflection set their player up for a tap-in. He was really poor for the rest of the game, however.

Yeah it was a straight red, guessing the ref has deemed he's made no attempt to play the ball and denied a goal scoring opportunity.

The way Hume has been playing, I'm trying to decide whether his absence will be a bad thing or not. If we stick with 5 at the back, Glennon's lack of pace might not be such an issue. Providing he is fit and there isn't some other reason why he's not been near the team, other than falling out of favour.

Glennon and Maher are both involved in a whiplash claim so I doubt they'll play again this season. It'll be Khouri or Vernam at LWB i'd imagine.
